Yes, I know there's quite a bit more to it. I don't feel like writing a 20 page essay to prove a point though ; ;

the Koran (Spelling it with a Q is asinine)

O.o Where'd you get that idea?

The title of my Qur'an is wirtten with a Q, so I write it with a Q. It can be written as Quran, Koran, and Al-Quran as well.

lmao!

About the Qu'ran and the Koran thing I'd have to disagree it kinda makes people say it with the same stress on both syllables when its light stress then deep stress syllable

ie.

Koran= people say "Hey Khid have you read your CORE-ANN?"

Qu'ran= people say "Hey Khid have you read your Quor-AHHN"

emphasis should be put on the last syllable most of the time its the first one and yes the cap letters mean emphasis. Yes it seems trivial but it bothers us slaughtering a word. Then again we do slaughter a lot of foreign word pronuncitations.

What do you drink? you're damn philosophical when your drunk. I'll buy

Yes Islam Judaism and Chrisitanity are similar as you say but only by the Old Testament of Christianity. I can't testify for Judaism since I know shit about it but trust there is reason since it's mentioned in the Qu'ran.

The reason Islam isn't quite Christianity or practiced in areas such as America because it does not have a certain element which is common in our society which makes us strong but weak in other areas.

compromise.

We do not have branches in Islam. Yes there are the Shi'ah and the Sunn'ah but the difference is a matter of politics centered around Islam.

meaning they follow the same(or they should) but had different views on the 4 Khalifah of Islam.

Present day it has widened and I fear that they are trying to push the borders(my own opinion mind you) which is expected of human nature not a fault of Islam. because we do not have compromise our text(read: Qu'ran cannot be changed fitting to present day standards) and it makes Islam the largest single religion of monotheism.

I could tell you why Christianity and I think Judaism seem similar to Islam but that kind of info is kind of sensitive and I believe you know the specifics why

It bothers the crap out of me when people feel the need to dress up what are inherently phonetic spellings with bells and whistles that have little to nothing to do with how the word is pronounced, and in fact, lead to MISpronunciations.

You don't say it "Kwu-ran".

In the instances of something that is originally from other language using the same alphabet, and for the many vagaries of English "spelling", I'm more forgiving. But Chinese, for example, is transcribed by angry pretentious monkeys as far as I can tell.

You've yet to properly explain yourself at all, you just say that because I called you an idiot and I say that religious intolerance is wrong that there's a double standard, but you never actually show where that standard exists. I'm waiting on you to actually say something intelligent, so far you've just been spouting off how "obvious" a double standard I have and then proceed to completely avoid actually showing it exists.

The fact that you have no idea what a double standard is or how to even show one exists isn't my problem.

Put up or shut up, show a double standard(and I mean prove it, not just say "oh it's there, just only you can't see it") or just shut the fuck up already.

Read before you post.

You belittle me and the fact that I believe that smoking pot results in 0 deaths a year is 'profoundly stupid', yet anyone who belittles another religion or calls their belifes stupid is wrong. I believe that smoking pot results in 0 deaths a year, you call me stupid for what I believe. Fuckin hell man, how many times do you need me to spell this all out for you?

Must just be a coincidence that whenever there's a religious thread this sort of thing befalls you, ex. :16suspect1:
Which one was that? I don't remember another one I participated in.

That's not a double standard, I already showed you why it wasn't, I even gave you 3 reasons why it's not a double standard but you ignored 2 of them. You're an idiot if you think that your beliefs on pot are comparable to someone's religion. Thinking you're an idiot because of something you said is in no way, shape or form related to religious intolerance; if I had called you a moron for saying people have blue skin, that would have been a double standard too?

Unless pot is part of your religion; unless you can show me in the bible(assuming you're christian, otherwise whatever religious text you use) where Micheal(or whoever) said "puff, puff, pass," your beliefs that pot is good has nothing to do with religion in the slightest. Religious intolerance is wrong, just like racism and sexism is wrong, because you're hating someone for something they usually cannot help without any regard to the person's merits. Calling you an idiot for saying something stupid, might be wrong in that I'm insulting you, but it's based on who you are as a person; and that's really the only thing you should be judged on. It's not intolerance, it's not liking you for who you are, not based on some arbitrary reason that you can't control.

I called you an idiot because you said/did something stupid and that I don't like people who discriminate against others based on their religion(race/sex too, but that's not important now). Unless you're going to say that practicing another religion is saying/doing something stupid, there is no double standard in what I said.

Lay off the dope. It wasen't but a couple weeks ago if that.

Not gonna bother with the link. Search function is your friend. Needless to say you had the same problem with me on the last religion thread you involved yourself in. You said something silly, off-color, or misunderstood and stuck your foot in it and got all defensive when held accountable for your words within the bounds of the conversation.

Not the topic at hand so i'll bow out now. I said my peace and managed to not piss anyone off this time around. I'll call it a day here and be glad. ;)

I got bored of reading on page 1, but I did notice something about Christmas... sorry to break it to you Christmas isn't really christian, it's a commercially generated holiday

Sorry to break it to you but it's actually a pagan holiday that was adopted by christianity to ween people from polytheism and paganism. The actual festival it's derived from was a celebration of the god(dess) Mithra (spelling is most likely wrong but when in Rome ... oh the puns!)

You are almost right... except it was god Saturn. Nice try. I'm well aware of what it is. I meant it was propagated as "christian" so people spend more money on it.

You got me, i'm sure it varies depending on what region you're in as far as the celebration. Those pagans got around... <.< The details somewhat escaped me, vauge recollections of some documentary i watched not too long ago.
I find using someone's holiday as your own to pull them from their own religion far more devious then the current trend of over-commercializing a holiday, personally.

I'dve gone with something a little less myopic like valentines day, personally. That's been almost a purely commercial holiday almost since it's inception unlike christmas which hasen't been a market driving force until recent decades.

Either way it's a bummer when you go back in to the history of alot of the religious holidays when it comes to christianity in alot of respects the messages are entirely lost on modern civilization.

I know what you are saying but back then it wasn't even called Christmas. I think Christmas was coined a bit later, but still way before it was commercialized. I just hate how people, even christians think that Christmas is when Jesus was born. I'm not religious, nor do I believe in higher power, but even I know that. This brings me on topic. Atheist like that give everyone a bad name. It's one thing not believe in a god or following religion, it's another thing to be an ignorant asshole towards those that do not agree with what your beliefs or lack of there of. I'm personally Atheist, but I enjoyed studying a learning about different religion. I'm often confronted with situations where I have to interact with groups of said religion in their own environment, and it's nice to be able to honor their traditions. For example, if you are an Atheist and you are having dinner at a Christian's friend's house. They say grace, but you do not believe in god. A real Atheist would say grace with the family out of respect for the family and their belief.

An asshole would say he's an Atheist and refuse to say grace.

Are you talking about having an atheist give the blessing because he's a guest, doing the actual "saying" part? Or do you mean an atheist simply bowing his head while the person giving the blessing does his spiel?

I've been in that situation before, being smack-dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. I've graciously declined to give the blessing when asked. I don't bow my head, but I do remain silent. There's nothing "asshole" about it.
