So we have recently had an influx of reported posts about offensive avatars. While discussing this the staff decided to ask the people to get a bigger pool of opinions.

Just post if you feel that offensive avatars should/not be sanctioned by not, and why/why not. Also post some of the criteria that would equate to an offensive avatar. As usual, keep discussion civil.

If it's SFW, then people need to shut up about it. God knows work places are tight-assed. If it's a picture of something acceptable there, and you have a problem with it, well, you're tight-assed for starters, and then there's the real problems. Get over it. Internet much?

I completely agree with this. If you could post it in a thread without a spoiler tag, then it should be fine. Obviously things that break other rules (like posting other people's RL stuffs, and flamebaiting, etc.) shouldn't be allowed either.

Couldn't agree more.

This sums up how I feel pretty much.

You can block signatures and avatars, which is what I did.

I dont need animated stuff loading for people left and right.

Wasn't there a worksafe theme implemented to show no images? Come on people stop being such Whiners...

It is less about being worksafe, and more about being offensive. Right now, unless some people with dissenting opinions start to post, this may already be a dead issue.

This.

While a small number of people might find a small number of avatars "offensive", you could just make an executive decision and tell the complainers what you'll do about it. Absolutely nothing. Think they'll stop using the site? Probably not. If they do, it's just spring cleaning anyway. Wiping away some old spider webs. Mod staff, you guys do a great job and I can't say enough good things about you all, but for the love of God, just sometimes, especially when people come to you with shit like this, just say no and be done with it. Don't even entertain the bullshit.

People whine as much as they do because you guys collectively allow it and entertain their complaints.

I don't like pictures of mostly naked men and topless tarus. Makes me sick really.

Other than that, no big complaints and don't believe any big steps should be taken on this.

It's of my opinion that "offensive" material in single posts is fine, especially in the places that it's appropriate (flameboard for example). "Offensive" material in avatars however is a little different, because then the same material accompanies every single post that user makes. While yes you CAN turn avatars off, you shouldn't have to avoid seeing everyone else's just because a few people want some kindergarten playground humor in their avatar.

My current question about this would be: why was Audino forced to censor his old avatar if there is no rule about avatars in place right now?

My understanding of this is that enough people couldn't see that she was wearing a flesh colored body suit and reported it as a naked chick in an avatar. Before my time though.

I have yet to see an offensive avatar. So no, I dont feel any additional rules need to be set as far as avatars is concerned.

Mine isn't offensive is it? I thought most people enjoyed seeing my avatar.
