Well after 7 months of playing FFXI I finally had to add a person to my /blist. I was playing in the Dunes with my SMN and one of my party members died. If it was me - I would of just warped back to Selbina and taken the XP hit...I mean we're level 18 it's not that bad, but anyway it seemed that this pt member wanted a raise so I thought I'd give it a try.

I don't like bother people in this game, especially white mages - their job is tedious enough. The only time I'll ask someone to get me a raise is if it's a really bad situation like...on my way to set my new homepoint I get aggro'd and and killed before I can reach it and my old HP is on the other side of the bloody map. In these situations or if i'm trying to get someone else a raise I try to be super polite like "Excuse me, I'm so sorry to bother you but do you do raises?" If they don't want to do a raise a nice "Sorry, I'm buisy right now," "Sorry I don't do raises" or "Just passing through so I can't" is awesome. "Thanks anyway, best of luck!" Is usually how I reply and no harm done, I'll keep looking or tell ther person their SOL.

But lets get one thing straight...when your a WHM (I play one and just spent over a week leveling it as my sub) you're a support class, the ultimate support class - your job is to help people and keep them alive. I don't expect you to do raises all the time, I mean you do have other commitments like your party and just getting things you need to get done, but when someone asks you for one (and you have to expect to get asked a lot) you don't have to be rude.

I asked a whm to raise this party member (not going to mention names because it's stupid anyway), I was fully expecting a decline but thought "Hey he's not anony, so might as well give it a shot." Anyway I got back an extremely rediculous "I charge 1000 gil." It had been a trying day in the dunes and I neglected to read his little caption, besides the pt member finally decieded to spawn, so I replied with "nevermind' and he comes back with "Can't your read?" so I say "No need to be a dink about it (I asked him very politely for the raise mind you) I stopped asking because he spawned" and then he got so rude! "Never ask me for a raise again, and learn to read" or something along those lines....so I /blisted him.

So just saying, even if your annoyed don't be a dink in the game! After all it is a community game and people quickly learn who's an ass and who isn't. (Everyone in the Dunes apparently knew this WHM and all felt the same as I do)

Sorry for the rant, but I was really kinda sad adding someone to my /blist :(

You did the right thing...If this person keeps it up, others wil blist them too.
They'll learn the hard way that no one wants to be around them.
And the golden rule still exists in FFXI. If you think just because you're online and you can act however you want, you are pathetic...Plus no one will want to party with you.
Losers

Let's name names and move this thread to the Flameboard once that's done. ;)

Seriously people, don't be afraid to actually name someone who was a prick in the game, that is part of the purpose of this board, to make others aware of experiences you had, good or bad.

I don't know - I really didn't want to make this a Me VS Him argument, just using it as an example to make my point. I don't think it's a Flameboard issue, but up to you I suppose!

Just moved to the FB as precaution.
I am all for naming names, obviously many in the zone shared your view, so it's not like a single slip-up but normal behavior on his part.

Allright, I suppose so...
His name was Roofie and he's a dink!

I'm guessing you know of him also?

lol if u dont like whms charging for raise dont sell raise for 9k at the AH not to mention the other spells. otherwise spawn or shut up. if ur not stupid ud realize that if u spawn u only lose about 300-400 xp which u get back in a couple fights. if u didnt set ur hp in the dunes then ur stupid and dont deserve help. besides since i became well known for charging for raises no1 bothers me anymore which was the plan from the get go.

sorry for the double post but i cant modify. one more bit of info. i became a whm to help the ppl in my party not sum lvl 12 retard who doesnt feel like spawning so instead he chooses to bother me while im farming. :)

roofie.....dude...ur a punk...im not gonna find an excuse for saying that...but u really are a dink. dude, ur farming, what i dont know, it could be the emp or maybe its just wind crystals...but either way, u couldve easily gone just a bit out of ur way to help. ur greedy...its not a matter of u not wanting to rez, ur a greedy troll. i honestly dont think ur suited to be a whm if u cant handle the situations that come with ur class. youre gonna get asked and not everyone is gonna read your captions...why u blasted sabia like that is beyond me, but it was weak. pick a different class bro, ur not suited for a whm. charge if ur going out of ur way, but if ur in the same zone...farming of all things....jeez, run a lil. now im not saying that taking the xp hit is so horrible and that at around lvl 18 its so hard to do so, but its the way u reacted to sabia. deal with the annoyances of ur class or dont be a whm.

before i get flamed with a wtf do i know....im a Pre-Luclin druid on EQ....the only time ive turned someone down for a port is when i was on my way to a raid/group or in a raid/group or camping a name. Beyond that I just had the person run to the nearest rings and picked em up.....ur not a very nice guy.

I find it hard to believe that you've never been raised by someone not in your party Roofie. And i don't know if you actually read my post but I also mentioned that I thought he should just spawn also. It wasn't the fact that you wouldn't raise that bothered me - it was your incredibly rude reply. If you don't want to be bothered don't farm in an area full of low level new players with tons of things that aggro without your anon flag up. PUT UP YOUR ANON FLAG!
Nobody will bother you and I've found in the Dunes that MOST high level characters that don't have their anon flag up are there to help out the lower level characters with their subjob items. Hell I saw a really kind whm come into the dunes and /shout "Bring out your dead!" and he ran around and did raises for everyone - Nice guy. If SE wanted raise to be just for your pt's they would of made it an in party spell only, but guess what? They didn't!
As mentioned before I understand that you don't always have to do raises but don't be such an ass about it. Just because you spent some gil on a spell doesn't mean the rest of us havn't also. I just blew 10k on Protect II and your not going to see me charging people for it - your going to see me standing outside the gates of Windy casting it on everyone fighting low level mobs.

For those whitemages out there:

For whatever reason you became a whitemage, you will inevitably get asked to raise from random people.

Here are your possible responses:

1. You can ask for money and be rude.

2. You can generously go raise the dead.

3. Or you can just politely say that you are busy and cannot come raise.

Preferbly whitemages will do the later 2.

I am a WHM and I specifically picked the job for helping ppl out. I go out of my way sometimes to raise ppl and don't charge for raises. I go out to the low lvling areas of windy (i.e. Maze, Dunes, & Quifim) to raise ppl to give back to the community (I don't know how many times I've died in the maze and was grateful for a raise). Now here's my point: This is how I decided to play the role as WHM, others are entitled to play however way they want. But just like in real life, being rude doesn't get you anywhere, in terms of a good reputation.

I don't believe charging 1k per raise, or any per raise is a very sound idea... I agree with the posters that yes, if you can't handle the baggage that comes with the job, perhaps you should not play it. A polite decline or simple going /anon can prevent many problems and conflicts from occuring! Every job will get bothered by requests for help at some point in their careers. BLM for Warp II, WHM for Teles and Raises, THF for finding keys (airship, coffers, etc), WAR and basically every other melee class for missions and quests (Samurai, Ninja, Dragoon quests, rank missions) all get bothered. I'm only a 44 THF and I get people asking me if I can help with airpass keys at least once per session. On the occasion that I am doing something important, I decline politely, give them some names of some other able-bodied people I know that can and are willing to help, and wish them the best of luck and we might run into each other in the future.
However, I don't believe that you can justify charging for raises based simply on the fact that "raise costs 9k at the AH you jerks"... Those people are apparently more well informed economically than you are about the game, because to my knowledge it is not a scroll drop off any mobs, but can be purchased at at least 3 spell shops that I know of (will not say for those not in the know as to ruin the AH game some people play) that are easily accessable. No need to be a jerk about it Roofie; just turn on your /anon, or you will quickly learn that all of a sudden people will get sick of your attitude and people seeking for parties will be picked up around you in certain level ranges that have learned to dislike you. Why, you ask? The blacklist is a powerful tool, and whether you like it or not, dealing with other people IS the largest factor in this MMORPG. Perhaps this isn't the game for you if you don't want to be bothered with a simple /tell requesting the use of one of the major features of your job.

^ summed it all up very nicely....Agreed 100% :)

its actually very simple. since ive never partied or intend to with any1 who posted here besides myself im not really worried. if u dont like how i play dont play with me. u can think im a dink i dont really care. and if u dont like me charging for raises then dont ask. as for changing jobs cuz u dont think im suited well thats too bad for u and yes ur stupid too. and big deal u were a druid on EQ wow ur cool. this isnt EQ. get over it i charge u dont like it too bad ur still stupid

lol...wasnt a cock contest, guy....im just saying i know the woes of being constantly asked for a task only ur job can perform....and like we all say....u obviously cant handle ur class...so get a new one. charge for cross-zone raises, i understand that and would support makin a trip worth ur while...but if ur in the same zone...ur a greedy n00b. lets see how far u make it in the community..once u hit endgame ur gonna be eaten alive.
