Betrayal, and all that may come of it.

I just don't understand why people risk so much for such a minor pleasure.

Remove Drugs, Insert Sex.

You risk just as much, but people still do it.

Also, what is the risk of smoking a little pot or having some beers in the comfort of your own home?

Ask the OP that. What starts in the home has a way of getting out.

But again, there can be no excuses and justification...

I totally agree with that. Your world is what you make it.

Once again, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about anything. I just think some peoples' priorities are screwed if they let something as minor as pot be a central influence in their lives and relationships.

I'm sorry to hear what happened.
/comfort. It always hurts when family does stuff like this. You expect them, above all other people, to be there for you. I too had family betray me. So, I disowned them. Haven't seen or heard from them in a year. Well, at least I don't have to go to any more of those crappy family reunions! ~(^-^~) (~^-^)~

What exactly is the appeal of pot? Does it make people feel like a rebel? Makes people feel like they are escaping the cliche of being "normal"?

It displaces you from reality. And for me gives me a splitting headache afterwards.

Family get togethers do bore me XD but I dunno.. disowning them seems hard to me.. but that's me...

So hopefully this is my last brush with the law, save beating the LIVING SHIT out of the guy who raped my sister a few months ago, and who is now stalking her.

cut his fucking balls off!!! -_- do something to make him pay horribly.. maybe that torture that was in Berserk that griffith went through.. cut his tongue and balls off and cut the ligaments in his wrists and ankles and stick him every day for 3 years with long sharp nail type things barely feeding him and giving him enough water to live >.> I'm sorry.. I just can't stand something like that.. rapists need harsher punishments just as much as murders do...then again.. girls that claim rape when they weren't is stupid too... they need to be punished... I know a few of them..

Well, we've already contacted the DA, who is planning on doing something about it. However, that is not to say I don't have any intentions of curbing the sonofabitch next time I see him on the street. The circumstances surrounding the event are enough to make me want to hurt him badly. But that is a story for another time, if someone is desperate to know the details PM me or something..

Hey Lecan, sorry to hear about what your family did. I had something similar happen to me when I was in High School. I was waiting at my bus stop for the bus, and apparently someone who knew my parents, drove by there and saw me smoking some weed and called to tell them. I didn't see them or anything. I get to school and get pulled out of my first class, and am searched under some suspicion bullshit and found with abuot 8 grams of pot as well as a pipe. The police are called, and I'd already been busted for pot once in 7th grade, I get busted again, and suspended from school for 2 weeks. I find out that night at home that it was my DAD who called the school and told them that I had weed on me. My fucking dad! Not some little fucking snitch or teacher..... 7 years later that still gets me upset.

Also, wanted to post some of my thoughts and experiences about the whole pot discussion.

I've been smoking weed since I was 13. I believe that weed affects each person differently. I think it has also changed for me. In school, I used to smoke very heavily, probably before I got busted the 2nd time, I was smoking about 4g ($40), a day with a friend. We'd get it by either stealing money from our parents, or (most of the time) stealing it from his mom who sold tons of the shit. :P It got pretty out of hand for me and it was pretty much all that I wanted to do. I eventually got sent off to various boarding/rehab schools for around 2 years. While I was away, majority of my friends had all been busted or had some trouble with the law, one was dead from taking way too much acid and wandering out into an 8 lane highway to get hit by 3 different cars, and another friend had killed someone in their car while stoned and was in jail for manslaughter. These weren't just people that I had met. These were people that I was in day care with. We have pictures of us all as babies at 3 years old!

This isn't warning people about how bad weed is or anything like that. I think that people should experience it for themselves if they so feel like it and just be cautious about it. I have friends who are very functional potheads :P I'm in school right now, learning computer programming, and weed is not very productive for this! :P If people are gonna smoke pot, they just need to do it where they can still function. I was obviously unable to do this :P I seem to have the same probelm with FFXI...... I just can't get enough!

Also, about the harder stuff.... I know a lot of people will argue about the whole pot being a gateway drug or whatever. Again, I think it depends on the person. Some of my friends are so against anything but pot and some hallucinogens, that they'd be furious with me if they found out I'd been using anything else. I've snorted Heroin before, smoked Opium, snorted Meth once (it's even shittier than everyone says), and a good amount of Coke. Didn't find any addictive but the Coke. Spent 3 months in Central America where Coke is $5 a gram (in the states coke this is at least $60-70) and spent just abuot the entire time down there all fucked up. Just from those 3 months I have dreams about getting coked up. I enjoyed experiencing new things and don't feel that I would have done these other drugs had it not been for me smoking weed. I told myself. "Ah weed is nothing. I've been smoking this forever. Why not see what this is like?" I just kept saying this is I progressed into using harder drugs.

Just thought I'd post my thoughts and experiences so that you all can relate / sympathize / flame me :P / maybe learn something.

Give it a way to get out and it will. Before or after drugs or alcohol you still have the same head on your shoulders. If that happens to be a dumb head, you'd better just steer clear altogether.

You mention central influence...And although I have already eluded to the fact that there needs to be a balance in life, I'll agree with you again on this point. TOO MUCH of anything is not good. My points are made based on casual use and freedom of choice, regardless of legality.

An addictive personality can be bad, especially if it's one that doesn't know when to stop.

I have an addictive personality, in that, when I like something I tend to go overboard and immerse myself in the enjoyment too much. However, I know when to stop as I am also reflective. No matter how much I might like something, if it is truly bad and I cannot seem to find a way to add that to my life and maintain balance, I will just stop doing it altogether.

People do it with this game. FFXI is very addictive and has made plenty of people's lives suffer, including my own. I adjusted, and everything is good. I'd like to play more but I know where that will get me.

You don't betray someone when you snitch on them for using drugs, your helping them to not get away with it anymore.

The one who is betraying you if you use drugs is...... yourself.

I think it's more how the person handles it than how it affects them. Some people go all crazy on their first foray into illegal substances. They find that the counterculture stigma associated with pot to be delightfully disturbing to others. It's in the same vein as morbidity; people see someone doing something illegal, and they are drawn to it, attracted to the sub-culture involved like people slowing down to gawk at a car wreck are hoping to see a body so they can go "shit! a dead guy!"

Now, you have buddy A and buddy B. You and buddy A are experienced stoners, and buddy B is thinking about trying it. You and buddy A feel no compunction to make him try; you're stoners, afterall, and quick action is not something you're used to. You and buddy A start up a blunt, say, and buddy B wants to try it. Before he ever tries it, all you three are doing are chilling, maybe listening to some music, and chatting. As soon as buddy B takes his first toke, he starts acting more like the common stereotype of a stoner, instead of what he is actually like when stoned. His antics become increasingly ridiculous, and, since you're all stoned anyway, you think he's a gas. This reaction is positive reinforcement. He continues his antics, feeding off your reaction (wouldn't Cooley be proud of him) and after the night is over, he wants more.

I feel that this person is more likely to go on to the harder substances than you and buddy A. Since buddy B's entire pot experience has been predicated on him acting silly in order to receive a positive response, he'll probably want to find ways to expand this. He might start drinking and doing yayo, he might go to clubs and roll an X, or he might grow out of it.

I think that, a year or so ago, I was buddy B. In my little circle of friends, I was always the academic, the nerd, the guy who spent almost all the saturday nights of his freshman year in highschool playing Dungeons and Dragons. The first time I actually smoked ( I had tried it a few years previously, but didn't get much) everyone was so charmed by the novelty of me, the quiet nerdy reader guy, smoking pot, that I did continue it, in the tradition of The Looking Glass Self. I'm pleased to say that, despite my family history of addictions, I grew out of it.

First of all; Lecan, I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you.

On the subject of hearsay, I learned about it when I went on my Junior Court Day (My entire Junior class went to Downtown Houston to watch court cases all day this last Tuesday.) During a cross examination in one of the criminal court cases, one of the lawyers kept objecting to hearsay (or at least mentioned it alot).

I asked one of my teachers about it, and I still don't exactly understand what it is. I'll try to make up a scenario, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong: If someone says something against you, and someone else says something about you which contradicts the other person's statement, is that whole piece of evidence disregarded all together?

Thanks.
Many lawyers don't fully understand the concept of hearsay. It really doesn't apply to contradictory statements. It has to do with statements that are disregarded because they are deemed to be unreliable.

Hearsay is an out of court statement, made by somebody other than the witness, offered for its truth. A clean example of hearsay would be if the witness testifies "Sally told me she saw the defendant rob the store." The hearsay rule would exclude this statement because it asks the jury to believe that the defendant robbed the store, but does not give the defendant an opportunity to cross examine Sally, nor does it allow the court to observe Sally's demeanor or test her credibility.

On the other hand, if I was suing Sally for defamation and the witness testified "Sally told me Pimptaru is a sack of shit" this would not be hearsay. The reason is, the statement is not offered for its truth. Nobody is trying to convince the jury that I am physically a sack of shit. The statement is offered only to show that Sally said mean things about me.

There are also numerous exceptions to the hearsay rule, where hearsay is admissible under circumstances showing that the statement is reliable.

I hope this helps.

I don't disagree, I'm not sure why pot is illegal in the first place.

The cotton growers in the early days of the U.S. did not want the hemp to be a competition to the cotton so they had it outlawed. They just carried the lawover into modern days.

Lets also not forget the employment/insurance problems that would arise. If the government says that it is leagal to smoke and then you hurt yourself at work what would happen? Employer gives a drug test and claims that they aren't culpable since you were baked out of your mind at work (think alcohol, legal to drink but if you hurt yourself at work and you test for alcohol in your system you aren't covered). The difference between marjuana and alcohol is that your body can proccess the alcohol and remove it from your body in ~12 hours. Marajuana stays in the system for potentially much longer than that. No test that i know of can tell if you are currently high just wether you have a trace of THC in your system or a lot. It would be a legistics nightmare.

It affects each person differently, when I younger and smoked pot all it did was just give me a nice relaxing light foggy headed feeling (Like I had drank a few beers really fast). Now when I smoke pot I get the feeling all over my body that you get when your leg is asleep, those sharp needle spike feeling, that is then followed by my eyes feeling like they are going to explode. I either pass out or though up. The smell of it now can make me though up. Thus I don’t smoke anymore.
