Biden vs Palin Debate

Biden: 1

Palin: 0

I think Palin COULD have had this one, if she hadnt made it obvious that all her answers were scripted. She kept avoiding questions or changing the subject, and it seems shes been hanging with Bush too long because some of his "Bushisms" have stuck to her like a fly to flypaper.

"I want to give a shout out to the THIRD graders of blah blah blah elementary school!"
What makes you think 3rd graders would pick watching that over Spongebob?

I think Palin did better than most gave her credit of being capable of but Biden still came off as better.

Like I said in the other thread, all she had to do was get through it without soiling herself to do better than most people expected. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough and Biden cleaned her clock when specifics and actual knowledge were involved.

Watching him shred her when she started blathering on about the Constitutional role of the vice president was a delight. I'd been sitting quietly in my recliner to that point and actually yelled "BOOM! Headshot!" when he did that.

I was impressed by her ability to recite complete sentences. After watching her interviews with Gibson and Couric, I wasn't sure she'd be able to pull it off. She's still the sugar rush candidate; feels good for a little bit, but then the high wears off and you feel empty because there's nothing left.

"We're gonna win the war! By winning it! We're gonna change the government, but please don't ask me how!"

I think they both sucked ass. Biden spoke his BS with more confidence though, so more people probably bought what he was saying.

Summary of the entire 90 minute debate in under 9 seconds:

Palin : "We're not Bush"
Biden : "You are Bush"

Seriously, neither one of them really said anything the entire debate. Obama/Biden continued their broken record of saying that McCain will be four more years of Bush and Promissing change without ever actually saying what was going to change.

It really annoyed me when Biden pinned the entire economic crisis on Bush, while wanting to continue and expand upon the same liberal socialist crap that are the real cause of the problems in the first fucking place.

McCain barely even knows what the economy is.

I am beginning to believe that it doesn't matter anymore and this country is seriously fucked no matter who wins the election.

Yesterday during the debate i had to remind myself to breathe.

I think everyone above me states my thoughts about the debate, but what's really screwey is that i have no idea who i'm voting for (yes, i do vote from brazil). I was pretty much set before the vices came into the picture... Guess who i was voting for? :p

I actually couldn't agree with this more. Biden seemed to enjoy pointing his finger at the Bush administration...however, I'm not sure that the people really want to hear that anymore.

One thing that got me during this whole thing of course was the situation of gay rights. Biden did a great job at making himself seem like the prime candidate because he kept mentioning rights that we deserved. Palin then actually agreed with him but she made it clear that her line was redefining marriage. Back to Biden...he agreed with her afterwards. People call me crazy for actually being a republican sometimes but to me, I'd rather someone tell me exactly what their belief is and not just sidestep it like I perceived Biden did. It was nice to hear that they both agree with same sex constitutional rights though.

Dude... their vice presidents, first off. Second, this is ridiculous. Biden was called out by Palin and Fox News (The only news not sucking the dick of the left) for lying with his responses during the debate. Do I want someone in office who will look me in the eye and lie to me? Fuck no. Fuck that ancient bastard. How bout this... Why doesn't he take the time that he's talking to people at gas pumps, go to his office and actually get some fuckin work done? I'd be livid if I was from Delaware. You're paying him to do what? Talk at a gas pump? Horseshit.

You want to know where things really went wrong with the economy? Sub-prime lending. Giving high APR loans to people who couldn't afford the home in the first place. Most insurance companies (I'm in insurance; trust me on this) make their decisions based on your "insurance" score. Your insurance history, if you've ever been canceled for non-payment, and of course a soft check on credit in most states to check to see if you make your current bills on time. AIG took on a lot of these poor people buying shit out of their reach. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae kept giving out the money. What's the result?

$84 Billion bailout - AIG
Those two mortgage companies are responsible for approximately $5 TRILLION of mortgage loans

If you think the US should have stepped in and controlled these companies, then perhaps we should also change our whole goal of government. Maybe we should switch to Socialism?

Edit:

I'd also like to point out my fair blame to the media. The media has used quite a bit of fear tactics in their publicity of economic crisis and bashing the government to stand up for their exceptionally liberal views. It is absolutely not a partisan media. Let's just say this... The media scares people to not spend money because of the hurting economy, the people don't spend money, the economy goes from hurting to failing.

Kudos, Fuckheads.

The big Republican meme for the night was "Stop talking about the past. Stop looking back." I'm not surprised that's their tactic, since they're responsible for eight years of craptacular malfeasance in the governing realm and John McCain was right there in the middle of it. They're hoping like hell that if they yell "Maverick!" enough, the public will be stupid enough to let McCain walk away from his record by pretending it was all the other guys' fault. It makes sense for Palin to trot out the line repeatedly, since her global warming answer makes it clear she's not really interested in the cause part of a cause-and-effect relationship.

I don't think Biden sidestepped the marriage issue, though. He said he wasn't in favor of it. It doesn't get much more clear than that. It would've been nice to hear them address the fact that gay couples can legally marry now and how they think that should be handled. Palin only expanded some things for gay couples in Alaska because she was told she'd pretty much have to. If it were up to her, she certainly wouldn't have done it on her own.

When Palin talks about her gay friends you get the sense that she's thinking "I love ya, friend, but you're still going to hell for being so immoral."

Hali... You do realize that the president doesn't make laws, Congress does. Congress has essentially been Democratic for a while now... Which says what? Biden - Obama = Part of Congress. McCain = Part of Congress. 2:1 and your party is at the forefront of it. Of course, the majority (Note majority, not entirety) of your supporters are either uneducated poor people or the 16-25 year old punks who only know what the TV shows them. Essentially, the democratic party is as much to blame as Bush. Besides, when has anything gotten done when you have conflicting parties leading presidency and congress?

Yes, I realize it. They've been walking arm-in-arm with Bush. They've fought to give the man what he wants and did very little to stand in his way when he started going over the high side. Even with the Democrats now in charge of Congress, the Republicans have been happy little obstructionists. With the GOP's dismal record, I'd want to spread around as much of the blame as I could, too.

Bullshit.

Don't have an equal playing field. Playing the "mom with a disabled child didn't card" didn't work this time, especially after Biden showed a more human side. She did better than I thought she would, but that doesn't say much considering I thought she would fuck up royally.

Every time Palin says maverick, hockey/soccer mom, anything about her family, and dogs with lipstick take a shot! It'll make politics more fun!

Bullshit.

Simple, but ineffective response. Not to say I agree fully with the reason for the response, but this denial hardly gives me a reason to discount it.

I have to say that despite the proficiency to debate, I have seen first-hand exactly the type of politician and person Palin is. Her background isn't a trained politician, but she has thoroughly stomped other politicians in actions in government over words. I can't claim to recognize anything spectacular done by past VPs, but I have faith in her integrity and her ability to use that integrity to keep McCain on the strait and honest path. Honest meaning that they will put forth the efforts they claim they will. And this may or may not be a surprise to McCain when (if) they get into office, but she will call him out if he bullshits.

Honestly I was undecided prior to Palin's acceptance for the Republican VP spot. I couldn't find much good either way. With her behind McCain or even if something should happen to McCain, I couldn't envision anyone else I'd rather have leading the country.

It's a simple response because it was a simple argument. I toyed with going into the demographics of Obama's supporters, but in the end decided to cut to the chase and just call bullshit. I'd expect the same response if I tried to paint McCain's followers as a bunch of crusty old white fundamentalists who're only interested in big business, punishing gays and sluts, and preserving the white man's power structure.

Ayup, bein a McCain supporter who doesn't mind the company of a gay fella (and of course the lebos), loves sluts, doesn't give a damn about big business, doesn't think the white man needs to preserve what he'll always ('cept in the hood) have until black people (as a whole) stop talkin' about "dem dayz" they never lived in, and an Athiest too boot.

Not jokin', except maybe a little on the black people part. I don't care about power. People are people, 'cept for Canadians.

I have to give the peeps at qcdn props. I think this is the one place that I haven't seen the bailout plan bashed by saying that the government should instead give $425,000 to every adult over 18....
