I was thinking it was someone who was a vaizard lol it was pretty shocking to see Mayuri
 
it would make some sense you could see the knobs on the side of his head as being part of his mask since it's integrated into his body but after his fight with Uruyu he's naked and we dont see them, but then again he doesn't have ears....

anyone feel free to give speculation lol

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Mayuri say, way way back in the Soul Society arc that he modified his own body through his scientific research?
 
he did, by what means and processes he did this, I'm not sure it's been said yet.
 
There is also a Scene of his "normal" body near the end of that arc...good chapter!
 
I didn't expect a Hollow, Espada, or even Mayuri. It makes sense though that it would be him though. I was half-assed expecting it to be Isshin after the page break, but I had no motive as to why. Just thought it'd make for more of a "dnt dnt daaaaaaaaaa!" Good read for sure. Anything with Hiyori included is ace in my book. Her and Urahara are tied for second in my favorite character listing. Can't wait to find out why he's (Mayuri) thought of as such a threat and how it comes to be that he's set free. Although he's a little distasteful, in my book, he has a very important place in the story and the Shinigami's outreach. More information on him would be grand.
 
doesn't make much sense to me either he and zaraki are loose cannons
 
Apparently Zaraki's slot is always filled with "loose cannons" or something similar; thought be it not to his extent. I didn't think Mayuri was a loose cannon though, at any time. You'd think with a mind as his and his current status, he was a perfect candidate, so-to-speak. Oh well though, we'll just have to ride this out and hope Kite makes some good decisions with the characters we've come to know, love, and hate.
 
he's kinda crazy and uses his assistant captain as bait, he doesn't care what happens to soul society after the Aizen scene. nor does he appear He seems like someone just looking out for number 1. He also has no problem in dealing with officers not in his sector as well.
 
You forgot the part where he blew up the his own squad members just for a shot at dealing with the ryoka in Soul Society Arc. And yea, in the Bound Arc he specifically states he wish he brought Nemu for the sole purpose of being bait.

I like how their sword's powers fit their personalities perfectly. Aizen is the master of deception, and so is his sword. Hitsuguya's cold, and so is his sword. Mayuri's crazy, dangerous etc. and his sword is, well, butt-ugly, dangerous and poisonous.

Makes me wonder if their sword's powers would change if their master's personality changes :P Or if their personalities would change if their sword's powers changed.

That would be pretty interesting. Especially if they could keep their already known abilities and just add to their skills. Kind of like maybe havin' a 3rd release form. Would make sense considerin' how hard they make it seem to get your Bankai. I mean, changin' personalities isn't exactly easy.
