Well, once again a small group of QCDN has shown that they can't handle any features that they are given with maturity. I'm really not gonna post links, but if you look at recent blogs and the thread in the flameboard its very evident. I have two different suggestions for what the mods should do:

Option 1:
My personal suggestion is to do like the rep system and get rid of blogs altogether. There is too much bitching, blacklisting, blocking, whining, flaming, going on in there for it to be really worth it.

Option 2:
If you really wanna try to keep it, then there need to be some rules imposed in there. Make it so that anything you couldn't say on the forum you can't say in your blogs. Of course, in my opinion this contradicts the whole point of having a blog and we should go back to option 1. Also with this the mods will have to do more work reviewing every blog that is posted. If I remember correctly, they didn't wanna have to do that same thing with the rep system and that was part of the reason that was removed that.

Whatever the outcome, it needs to change from what it is right now. Thanks:biggrin:

I agree with option 1. If you want to blog, take it to blogspot or livejournal or something and have your own personal hate shrine, just don't do it here..

Agreed

The blogs were a good idea but unfortunately got ruined. I stopped blogging here because I didn't have much interesting to say about my ffxi character and now I don't play.

vbulletin released an updated blog and I think it gives the blog user more flexibility. I think the blog user can delete comments they don't want to see. If it gets out of hand with a certain user, staff will step in and handle it as we would a thread on the forum.

Uh, have you read the blogs recently?

Another option is... just don't read them if they don't interest you.

Thats part of the problem. People are using it too much as a tool for hate. Its like flameboard lite where you can say stuff about people and not get called out for it.

Not asking to give the blog user more control. We need the blog users to be checked a little bit more by a mods. And as you say staff is gonna step in and do it, then please go do it :|

I don't actually. Its just when it starts becoming a problem everywhere on qcdn (flameboard, chatbox, etc) that something needs to be done.

Actually research the problem and you will actually see that that's not the problem ppl are having right now. A miros you are not it would seem.

Part of me really wants to agree with option one that the original poster had on here, however there is still the part of me that hopes that blogs would be used to share good times that happen in game, and thus take away the good times board.

Now that being said, one could efficiently make one blog a week sharing their good times instead of two blogs a day. I've spoken to my friends from here and they have said that they would consider posting a blog if two days later they weren't bumped off of that top 10 list by Amerie. So while it's almost sad to say it, but it almost seems like a limit should be imposed. If your blogs take up that much space then maybe it's a better idea to take it off of the site and make a blogspot and keep it in your signature like many other members do.

As it stands with the current blogs, things got way out of hand. I think we'll all agree that at first Amerie's blogs didn't do much but as they continued to take small potshots at people (especially at one who has been banned) that they were completely out of line. While venting is one thing, using each blog to almost take those potshots should not be allowed.

Sadly, restrictions need to be placed on the blogs now to prevent situations like this from happening again. It's that, or the whole function needs to be taken down.

This is why we can't have nice things. But, I find it oddly amusing, so I don't really care either way.

I prefer the sound of a 1 blog per week idea. Most users only blog around once a week (if even that). I really don't wish to see them go as I really do enjoy reading them from time to time.

Its not really a group. What happened is you have someone with a massive ego going after banned members and linkshells in their blogs and even though its reported, its not cared about. Its legal flamebaiting if you will and some people are really fucking tired of it, have been tired of it, and nothing was ever done. Don't blame the people, blame the person that started it. I'm hoping that wasn't a jab about my maturity though. I could go on about how I don't think people from FFXI that got banned for hacking should be playing anymore on different characters also.

Jesus Christ, come around more often. The blogs have been out of hand due to one person and its not hard to figure it out.

I disagree with removing the blogs altogether. I think it should be more of an instanced thing. If you cannot handle behaving, you should be denied certain privilages; blogs, for instance.

If your blog is going to be your miniature hate-monger-post-a-thon, you shouldn't have the right to them. If you're using your blog to get RL shit of your chest and feel more secure doing so here instead of on myspace/facebook/livejournal because you know the community, do so.

We should not just stand by and let people blatantly ignore the rules of this forum one one side, and drag other people down with them on another side.

Even if a one-per-day rule was instituted, it would alleviate at least *some* of the problem.

Case Study: Genkaku's blog, which at its height was a one-a-day deal. I loved reading about the ARMY and his hijinks therein.

I also believe that standards need to be set concerning content therein (globally), and not just allowing those who use blogs to just disallow potential detractors from reading their blogs. That's ridiculously immature, akin to screaming insults at someone and then plugging your ears, just so you don't have to hear the impending backlash.

Take it up with SE like someone else tried. I wasn't singling you out, just a general statement about anyone involved in this "blog wars".

More and more I get the feeling people are scrutinising the wrong issue at hand. I don't disagree that something needs to be done about the Blogs, and really all that needs to be said about that topic has been said already.

So what happens next? Prior abuse of the Reputation system moved onto abuse of the Blog feature. After fixing the Blogs, there'll just be another abused feature coming up the next few months down the line. (Perhaps sooner).

It really isn't the features of the board that are the problem.
