Thought this was funny. You just generalize too much, to the point where its nuts.
I do, however I've been reading and have yet to see anyone say "Cops should have their firearms taken from them"
Those can be just as not practical around the house to have as anything else. The biggest, most damaging weapon, i imagine anyone to have would be a big knife, but that requires you to go somewhere and get the knife (same problem with a gun, unless you sleep with a knife in your room), and then endanger yourself even more by getting up close and personal. Its the same reason why people don't train martial arts with bats/clubs/knives. If you miss, there isn't a ready chance for recovery, and you are completely open to attacks.
Yes you need to be at closer proximity to use an object like the ones I mentioned, but a house IS close proximity, ALSO why people would much rather a ... shotty over a handgun? It's better for close quarters.
I used to keep my baseball bat under my bed. I live with a man I have NO worries defending me if we had an intruder. I'm 100% serious when I say I'm confident a gun wielding intruder would have a TON of work cut out for him against my weaponless less than average sized boyfriend.
The only worry that ever crossed my mind was the fact that we as residents can get charged with assault and WORSE by defending our own homes if deemed extreme force was used, or unnecessary force. And I know if I were to start beating a man who broke into my place at 3am waking me while I was alone scaring my half to death, I wouldn't stop til that fucker was dead or every bone in his legs were broke.
They also allow you to stay a distance. I'm a big guy. If i were to break in your house and you swing a bat or a golf club at me, sure, it would hurt, but i wouldn't be anywhere near knocked out. You give your melee weapons far too much credit over the human body. If you then did hit me, i'd be sure to then make sure it didn't happen again so then'd you'd probably be in a world of trouble if i do get that weapon away from you. I might just run away and come back with a gun so i can prevent that attack from happening again.
What I find interesting about this is regardless of your size you could very well get knocked out by
one punch from a much smaller guy. So a frightened, alert woman alone in her house with a bat would probably actually beat an intruder to DEATH. To say that taking a bat to the face, head, back, thigh, hip, ribs wouldn't give sufficient time for the home owner to either A: flee OR B: hit you again and again I don't think is accurate.
EDIT:
This seems to have completely morphed into "We Americans like guns" there's just no discussing how if there were none to be had there would be no gun related accidents/crime to be had.
This is it for me. I've got one hell of a strong and stubborn opinion, especially when it comes to firearms as anyone who's read this thread now knows.
IMO, the less firearms in circulation whether legal or illegal the better.
