Call of Duty 4 official thread

Fire for one thing maybe 70% of the people you even party with on PSN have no mic. Anyways now that thats done CoD4 is what, PS3s 3rd online shooter? Xboxlives competition level has become pretty steep with so many games in the past rising the level. Now that covers up the larger install base, and yes it does make sense. We have been playing shooters competitively for a while now. For the successfull people in these games like most of us here, are content and say "Good game" and if someone disrespects you all of a sudden you can turn the magic switch on and destroy the other team. For the bad ones that never became good at the games, they are the ones that do the complaining and excuse making.

If the raffle thing didn't help you, Jesus can't. Key note on raffles: only one person can win a single prize no matter how many people enter.

Raffle 1

5 people 1 prize

Raffle 2

10 people 1 prize

More people here worsen your conditions of winning. It doesn't change the prize number...

Game 1 System 1

600,000 people 16 open slots

Game 2 System 2

1,000,000 people 16 open slots

More people here give you advantages and disadvantages. The system has more people to throw into a match (which is set at 16 players). The more people you have the more -types- of people you have thus betterin' your chance at getting any -type- of person whether they be good or bad.

It's really quite simple.

Not to nit-pick, but it shouldn't really matter all that much about how many people there are to fill in the open slots in a game since the larger the size of the player pool, the better it should represent the population as a whole. Thus, more people to pick from means more bad players as well as good, so it would balance out because they all have an equal chance to be added.

It should only matter if the players differ between PS3 and 360. Since the same game should attract the same type of people, there would only be such a discrepancy if the 360 community has a larger proportion of assholes than the PS3 community.

I would say most PS3 owners have had or still have a 360. To say the competition on Live is more intense than competition on PSN is ridiculous. It doesn't matter how many shooters have come out on a system. I personally like the PS3 controller better since I find it more comfortable. If the game comes out for both system, I will choose the one I like the controls for better. Does this make me a less competitive player because I play on PSN?

Simple, yet wrong.

You're equating a raffle win incorrectly, by replacing it with the server size, not the assholes in a population.

The larger population should equal more assholes in a proportional population. Hence more raffle tickets.

*Insert cliche intelligence insult.*

And Osyris. All the hardcore competive have been playing Resistance since launch. They played RB6V GRAW and Warhawk too. More games spread them thinner but there are more people too. I assume UT3 is going to bring a lot of new blood. The series has a following.

at the risk of my wife bringing down the fire, i purchased this game today and recieved no backlash. yay. Now i gotta tear myself away from halo 3 to play it a little.

MLG is real popular with PS3 games right? Yeah... (silence) Ok its not. There is more competition on live atm no matter what you say buddy. And yes i would say because i play on live, and you on PSN, if we met up some how i would destroy you in game lol. Anyways its nothing against PSN honestly, but it IS a service thats growing from scratch. Live has years on it by now, thats all i am saying. 360 players have a good percentage who have played live for YEARS. With real competition for years. Just makes sense to me that they would take loses and wins more personal.

I would like to see CoD4 cross platfrom and have 360 vs ps3. I wonder if we'd rape the ps3 people as much as we do the 360, TEAM DBAG!

And from what i've seen (not much, only resistance) psn isn't that hot. I played resistance for not even a week, and by the end of it i was going like 25-10 consistently in servers. Then again i do that in pretty much any 360 game too so I guess thats not a good comparison.

Don't make assumptions. For one thing, Xbox didn't invent online gaming. For another, Xbox consoles aren't the only ones that have gone online. Back when console shooters were a joke, I was playing on PC. Back when Xbox was a joke, I was playing Socom. This entire time while you focused on an online experience, I've been playing offline splitscreen constantly, and my offline friends are competitive players. Like we just did a 4 way splitscreen last night of COD4. One of my friends was going on about Halo 3, and how he's a level 48 there. I can play skillful people without paying a 50 dollar subscription. You don't need to put the PSN community down to justify the pay service.

Fire sorry but there is no way we can prove any of this. Well there is but even that is not fair. I wold say the way to determine is see what percentage of the MLG shooters are 360 players then you will um... See? Anyways offline blah blah means nothing. "I play with a bunch of people who think they are skilled, and say they are skilled in other games" doesnt do it for me. It may for you and thats very well fine. I am compettative, i do not accept losses online. I do lose, i dont log off without a win. Maybe i am too into online competition but whatever. People always are talking about how Live has annoying 12 year olds and nothing else. There have been days Raidrx, Makelith, Skaw, Ivolt and myself have gone countless games with no assholes or annoying kids, as most people say flood the Live community. Oh also among those annoying asshole 12 year old kids you will find that for some reason they are actually very good at times. Yes there are 12 year olds that own even though i cant explain why they do lol. I truly wish we could get some type of competition going Raidr;; 360 vs PS3 players;;

Edit: Also fire what are you even talking about in this post. We know Live was not the 1st online gaming experience. We know others have gone there. PC has nothing to do with this argument. This argument involves consoles. 360 DOMINATES online gaming for consoles period. The competition is higher there period.

And what I am saying is that most PS3 owners have or have had an Xbox or 360 and have played on Live. To assume you will "destroy" me if we went head to head is a mindless assumption that may or may not be true. I play Live, but if a game comes out on both systems, I will play the one I am more comfortable with. And I know sure as shit that if the best of 360 went up against the best of PSN, you wouldn't be able to tell who came from which. Gamers are gamers no matter what system they choose to play on, even if it isn't your all-mighty Live.

360 is more online focused and I'm going to guess will attract people more minded towards constantly competing online, but that doesn't necessarily mean that 360 players are overall better. You're talking about a small community within a larger one. I was playing Halo 3 online the other night on my friend's Xbox 360. I hadn't played except for 2 games in September, I was drunk(very drunk), it was 3 AM and I was owning people left and right. I didn't even know all the buttons.

There may be this group of 360 players who are extremely competitive, but there are also quite a lot of 360 players who SUCK. I don't think it's fair to represent the 360 community by the top .5% and then demand that the PS3 community competes.

No doubt, of that top percent of hardcore gamers, you'll find them on Xbox live. But these same people probably own PCs, PS3s and maybe even Wiis. The fact of the matter is, I'm not one of those guys. It's not about ability to me, it's about complete obsession.

Since the summer, I've been on the top 20 list for Gripshift rankings. I was around the top 10 at one point, and then... I stopped playing completely. I came back a few weeks ago to try it out again, I can't do the things I could do before. I don't know every curve of the road, I don't know how the car will fly through the air, I don't know any of that anymore. It's not that I don't have the ability to be absolutely insane at that game, it's that I simply have other things to do.

I beat Resistance on super human at launch. I have trouble on hard now. I used to be unbeatable at Super Smash Bros for N64. I played a school tournament and won. Then I beat 3 guys at once with my Pikachu while everyone was yelling, "kill the pikachu!" Now I try again years later and I can't beat my roommate. If I obsess at a game, believe me, you won't take me lightly, but the fact of the matter is that's not something I do often. Furthermore, even without, I'm better than an average Xbox player who actually owns Halo without knowing how to play.

Does anybody accurately represent a community? Who the hell knows, I can't even accurately measure my own player skill.

I'll say one thing though, I intend to be good at Unreal Tournament 3 and I hope you don't pussy out and wait for the 360 version.

Ravic, you should have assumed the sayin' "you take the bad with the good" is always true. It's like when you do something to one side of a mathematical equation, you have to do it to the other side Ravic, so yes, I did take that into consideration and it also covers my point/shows you got it. Others get it and Firestreak is still in left field. Why am I not surprised.

So anyway, back on topic, I found this video of a guy shootin' a .50 Cal sniper rifle. It's fakin' hilarious for some reason, enjoy.

Yes, the title seems gruesome but it's not. No blood or death involved so it's -NOT- NSFW.

Strid, the 3 of us are the only one commenting on your dumbass Kindergarden math. Everyone else ignoring the sub-conversation doesn't mean they agree with you.

Here, I'll explain it to you, as if you were a small child. Hopefully, this will end the dumb debate, but it may just bounce off your head.

Let's use some imaginary numbers here for the purpose of making this easy to compute.

Pretend there's 500,000 people on PSN and 1,000,000 on XBL.

Pretend that they both have a ratio of 50% assholes.

That would mean that PSN has 250,000 assholes and XBL has 500,000 assholes.

Are you with me still? Am I going too fast for you?

Now both games have COD4, let's say a 8 on 8 match is going on on XBL and PSN.

If there's 250,000 assholes on PSN, and 500,000 players, that means of 16 people, 8 will be assholes.

If there's 500,000 assholes on XBL, and 1,000,000 players, then of 16 people, 8 will be assholes.

The beauty of the equation here is... you don't need to know how large the population is. All you need to do is know the ratio of assholes in a population, and then you can assume if you pull a random sample of that population out, it will have THE SAME RATIO.

That goes if there are a billion people or if there's 16 people, you're going to arrive at the same ratio. Furthermore, if you're playing THE SAME GAME, you're going to get the same subset of each population. As in, if people who buy games like COD4 tend to be bigger assholes than people who buy games like Enchanted Arms, then the same asshole affect will be on XBL and PSN. Once we know that... we come to the conclusion that the only variable left IS the ratio itself. Population is not an independant variable, unless you believe that ass the population hits certain points, assholes suddenly stop buying the system or suddenly start buying the system. I don't know asshole buying tendencies and the affect that install base has on it, I only know that you know a hell of a lot less than me on this subject based upon your earlier pseudoscience.

Does this mean that XBL has a bigger ratio of assholes? I don't know, but based on QCDN, I'd say... yes!

ive had call of duty for a couple days now...and havent met any assholes yet, some real nice cool people so far, even in free for all.....so my ratio for assholes found is 0. But if i played with fire id probly have finally played with one! (i kid, i kid XD)

yeah, the most smack talk i ever hear is on halo, and i get repped down for winning on that game for no reason, i dont smack talk or anything, but yet i have a huge percentage for smack talk and language. Hell i always say good game afterwards but the other team usually says nothing if they lose, but if they win and say good game i always reply with a GG.
First assholed i met in CoD4 were this morning, using racist terms left and right on a black guy and a french guy, and then calling people retarded because they did not defend them with the bomb....i just kept quiet, ignored them and scored on my own to shut them up.

So I just played an online round on my PC. Just joined some random HQ server, first time playing online and got this:

cod4scorezx4.jpg

So yeah, i haven't played it on PS3 yet but im gonna have to go ahead and say CoD4 is my bitch. And not only that, but all the people that play it online too ;)
