This is something I wanted to post for a while but just never had time to do so. Anyway, I posted this on the Flameboard because it will most surely turn into one.

I don't pretend to be better then anyone else or above anyone else, but there are some "rules" or "behavior patterns" if you wish that should just be put down, simply because they are based on common sense (if you don't know what that is, please stop reading and go bang your head on a wall).

What I want to address here is that Oh so feared Call for help function. I think a lot of people, for some unknown reasons, just either don't know how to use it or are affraid to do so.

First of, who uses that? LEADER!!! Plain and simple. The leader of a party has certain tasks to take care of and it is my believe that using Call for help is one of them. You don't like it? You think you should never use that button but you are not leader? Disband and make your own party where you just won't use it to your convenience. No one is forcing anyone to stay in a party (AGAIN, common sense, at least give the party a chance before disbanding!) but if you elect to do, accept the fact that there is one leader, in charge of calling for help or not!

Now, that should take care of the situation where you get this:

Player1: Should we call for help?
Player2: Na, we're good!
Leader: I think we should call for help, this link is kicking our whm's butt
Player3: I tried to sleep, did not work
Player1: I say we call
Player2: NO! We will loose exp on it
Leader: well does not matter anymore, whm is dead and we're next.

Now, when do you call for help? NEVER YOU DUMB $HI7, we'll loose exp!!! WRONG! Again, personnal opinion, flame away, but I prefer to loose exp I would get, then loosing exp because I died, then having 5 minutes downtime before resuming the exping. Whenever I am leader, I'm not affraid to use Call for help if I am convinced ANYONE in the party will die. Now, don't think I go and abuse it to kill exp, I really used it 3 times so far in my whole playing time, when in exp party as leader. But again, I prefer to call for help then having a death on my hand. It's no fair to anyone not calling for help, just so the 3-4 people alive can get 180-200 exp, while the others loose 3 or 4 times as much.

So, callfor help, take care of the bad situation, rest and start again in a couple of minutes, no death, no shout for raise, no long downtime!

Ok, things are looking pretty bad and someone will surely die. Quick, call for help and zone the prey! BAD!!!! No zoning. You called for help, you did not turn the problem over to someone else. If you call for help, have the courtesy to stay and fight with people that came to your rescue, no matter how close you are to dying. Grow some balls and suck it up. Nothing worst then helping someone and see them taking off.. and then you're screwed.

The above is the reason why I am posting this. I had a few experience recently where someone called for help then fleed, leaving ME with a DC or EM mob.... with the obvious result.

So, now that we know how to use the call for help, what to do when you see one? Point and laugh? I can understand if you are already fighting a mob, but if you are not, why on earth would you not run over to help. Anyone who has partied with me, especially in Crawler's Nest can testify I am always rushing to wherever a call for help happens. It's common sense and I have NEVER died doing so (except on the recent one that I mentionned, where the other fleed  ). If your party follows you, you'll be just fine. Chances are a 3rd party will jump in and the linking mob is gonna crap his pants.

Few exemples:
Garlaige, my party and Kateverlasting's party are having a bad day, we both keep getting links or aggro. Well both parties were using call for help and helping each other, resulting in no deaths, no zoning, no training!

Last week, Yhoathor Jungle, nightmarish! People kept zoning gob smithy. And we all know that a smithy will walk back to it's comfy spot, aggroing every party on the way. If he is lucky, there will be more gobbie friends to join him. Well everytime there was a smithy on the loose, people would call for help and every party would jump on it. Hell, I had just died from a bad pull (that's another subject, you pull a link, take it like a man and die! don't bring it to screw up everyone) and jumped in even with weakness. They're had to be 20 people on that gob, I just coult not resist... and no, I still did not die! Again, no one died because of wandering gobs around the zone.

This is a team game, I know everyone realizes it! But it does not ends in your party. If you see a call for help, unless it's a Behemoth in Qufim, for god's sake help!!!!!

So anyway, this post is long enough as it is, but just to sum it up:

-Leave the leader in charge of calling for help
-Call for help before anyone in your party dies, it's not fun for nobody!
-Don't zone when you call for help, stay and fight!
- When people call for help, it means they need it. Be a sports and help out. They already have hate, all they need is to kill it quick! So bash away.

Allright, I'm ready, flame!

/clap

Also if you call for help and then run in a straight line I can't catchup with up to you in order to help you. If you here me yell at you to "Run him back to me." please run in an arcing circle or something so I can then get a pursuit angle and actually help you.

As a side note, I know alot of people and I mean ALOT of people do not know this, but when you run away and you disengage the target the "call for help" option disappears so you "cannot" call for help. This is WRONG. Type /h and then hit enter if the target has been attacked or is engaged it will call for help. I have seen it so many times where I could have saved someone in the dunes because I cannot attack their engaged target.

This is not a rant or flame either, I just want to inform people so don't flame me if you know this already. :(

On the opposite side, if you call for help and someone stops and engages your mob, please dont escape out on them.

But thanks for mentionning it again!

This is sortof off-topic, sorta not -
If the BLM/RDM/SMN-if-needed manages to sleep the link, STOP F-!KING HITTING IT ><
Can't believe how many people Dia or Bio a mob the party's trying to sleep...

I whole-freaking-heartedly agree with you there man. The most absurd thing about it most of the time is....when your party actually threatens to kick you for helping someone else. Since when did it become a crime to make sure someone else doesn't die?

That also brings up something else that drives me nuts. If you're going to call for help, and someone tells you to stop running.....STOP FUCKING RUNNING! I can't tell you how many times someone has called for help and kept running despite me telling them to stop in /say, /tell, and in some rare cases over shout. Now I understand not everyone speaks english, but when you use /say to put [/help], one would think you would stop to see if someone is actually trying to help you.

ahem....anyway...I agree..>.>

I was recently "helping" in the dunes near the Selbina Zone. A whole party is zoning a pugil. I throw a cure II on one member with low hp pulling agro. Eh...no problem..it's rarely hitting me and when it does the damage is low. The party zones into Selbina...(or so I thought). The pugil stays purple...I'm waiting...it's still slapping me..or trying to. I'm waiting some more. Finally I notice the guy I cured run by. I /s Hey...is ths your fish? Call for help so I can kill it." Nothing...he and his party just run on by back to their camp. I'm pissed now...I mean..it's not like the thing could kill me...but still..it's their damn fish! lol Finally it loses interest in me and head back to camp...at that point I really didn't give a fuck what it did to them..lol

Since I help in dunes quite a bit, LS or friends, this kinda crap gets pulled all the time. This is when you throw up your Ice Spikes.  If they want to be dicks about it, let them lose the exp!

lol...don't you just love it when you toss someone a cure and the next thing you know they start pulling near you thinking they're gonna get a free pl? lol

The other night I was briefly in a party in the dunes. We were taking on gobbies when another popped nearby. As it starts to head over to our camp I tell the party to call for help. At that moment three (3) of the members start shouting "/sh HELP!!!" or "/sh Plz hlp us" They were still pretty new to the game (lvls 13-14, no subs yet). I just sighed and did the honorable thing... Mijin Gakure! <Experience Points> lost <No thanks!>

While I was dead, I explained how to "Call for help".

Well I am glad to see I am not the only one who had bad experiences when trying to help someone, hence why I posted this. :)

I was just getting so frustrated at people calling for help then running away or being blamed for helping someone (yes, that did happen to me as well).

So hopefully that will help avoid these situations! :)

I try to help anytime I see the 'So-and-so calls for help!' appear on my screen, even if its just tossing in cures or mana-bombing the mob..since I suck at melee jobs really lol..But yea, the running away thing can be annoying, especially when im around the same level as them, in the pt beside them on a beach or something, and I go to help and they run! I get hit twice i'm usually dead, lol.

I don't have many experiences with the CFH, well it was kinda funny to see someone CFH on kirin the other day..

But when links and such are pulled to a party nearby and they call for help, I won't lie, but I will not go help them, simply because half the time you'll end up dieing, if not you, then a pt member will. The party will disband and you, or whoever died will most likely have to HP.

Go exp with a gameplan, execute it, and everyone goes home happy.

Of course this applies to EXP mobs, not something that cons too weak or what not.

What I really hate is when people yell for help and then they don't call for help. I don't remember the BLM's name but a while ago when I was in citadel top floor leveling my WHM he tried to solo a beetle and was getting his ass kicked. He yelled for me to heal him plz. I did. He didn't call for help when the mob went at me. The tank couldn't voke it off me and I zoned with like 13 hps. I can't remember that guy's name but I recall screwing him over and getting my revenge at some point.

So... the best advice I can give is, never ever ever heal someone unless they call for help. People are assholes.

I quit reading after this. I don't know why I have such a huge hang-up
about leet-speak, but I do. Oh I know why, because it is neither "leet"
nor "speak". It's ignorant and makes leet-speakers sound ignorant as
well.

Your purpose may have been noble; to swear without really swearing.
It may have been in jest against those of lower intelligence who can't
decide whether or not to "/call" for help. Regardless, my anit-leet-speak
hangups kicked in and I stopped reading.

Lol, your stories always make me laugh Fire... especially the non-specific revenge... I imagine the guy waking up with a severed chocobo head on his bed or something like that.
