Capping Evasion Skill

I'm curious, as a Bst, I've never (intentionally) tanked a Mnk mob [Even Match] or better. Do they provide an opportunity for skill on both swings?

If so, those Korrigans back to the right as you approach the Cloister of Storms might provide faster (albeit more dangerous :P) skill than the crabs.

I personally find it amazing/strange you guys didnt cap eva naturally on thf in exp parties. Only have brd pullers or something?

awww but Reauland...being a bst means you get to tank everything unintentionally, isnt that the fun part?

=D

I almost never got hit when pulling in pt, I got most of my evasion skill fighting EM and hiding from Bugbear/Goblins in Movapolos.

You guys have to be more agressive pullers. grab something and tank/ignore it while waiting on the next mob to die. either that or try to grab some hate.

Yeah, can get eva/shield/parry skillups from both of their attack rounds. Though Mandragora hit stupidly hard compared to MNK Beastmen of the same level. =/

The suggestion for skilling up evasion near the Cloister of Storms sounds like a really good idea, you should definitely try that. However, if you don't have your Testimony yet, you might try getting a few skill ups while soloing Quadavs in Beaudeux and trying to get one. Those mobs are readily soloable as lv 70 THF/nin. The Sapphire Quadavs are a bit more dangerous, but just save your TP to use DE during their -ga spells and interrupt them. You can of course ignore all the non-thief mobs, but that's a long and boring wait. It's not risk free, but that's what makes it interesting.

Regarding +evasion and -evasion gear... evasions skill ups are pretty common, and are frequently obtained regardless of whether or not you get hit. My pulling maco for THF includes gear swaps for a net swing of about 18 additional evasion, and I'm always hovering near capped evasion. The game checks for defensive skills in this order: evasion > parry > shadows > shield. So you can still get evasion skill ups with /nin and shadows up.

Finally, don't obsess over exactly capping evasion. I went 1/2 on Maat THF and didn't have capped evasion, parry or shield. On top of that, the only reason I lost the first time is I did it as a trial run and didn't bring any meds. (I still took a sizable chunk out of him too.)

Some of us opted to get hit less is XP and keep the XP/Hour high. No need to be an mp sponge when soloing capped evasion is cake.

I didnt say you had to actualy get hit when doing that now did I?
If you have decent mages the monsters you pull will be slept before they actually do get a decent chance to hit you even with ichi alone. Waiting for a monster to die before pulling another is kinda slow imo.

No, lol, you didn't say that. I did what you described. It didn't cap evasion.

hmm weird. doing that worked for me. Maybe I just get hit alot more than I think from grabbing hate after I pull? I know my exp got slowed down slightly from when I ran off to pull mid fight and I didnt notice I had hate a few tims last night.

Of course, if you really wanna cap evasion quickly and don't mind the experience loss, you can always try to find a dynamis shell that'll take you and do a few sac pulls for them lol. Nothing like having 15-20 mobs whacking on you after PD wears to raise your evasion skill.

Sorry, just some humor to throw in here.

Last night doesn't count, lol

We're talking 70 and below.

Pulling hate these days isn't an issue.

well, got my evasion to 250(good enough) and challenged maat... and that asshole hit right through my blink band shadows.... what the heck>.<

i've got video evidence too...

i just let steelshells hurt me to get evasion up, it was already really high from pulling, but i wanted some extra

yea.... maat will do that. if u can hit him, theres a good chance he can hit u lol. when i went in i forgot to buy a blink band, but still won ^.^ this is how i beat him:
1)opo necklace >sleep >100%tp
2)food/meds/reraise, whatever
3)Sneak attack
4)DEX gear
5)get behind him and let it go switch to evas gear(use a macro) quickly
6) u should still have the tp from the opo necklace, use DE(i found splitting up SA and DE did better dmg)
2)tp wing -dancing edge if ur quick enough, itll SC with the 1st WS
3)melee him
-if he uses PD u "could" try hitting him with sleep bolts, but wouldnt recommend it considering u could loose alot of time(and hp) if u miss. instead, use flee and run2 entrance, this will give u time to use blink band again, pop some hi pots, w/e u need2 do that can be done in about 5-10sec. when he catches up, just flee back to battleifield. making a flee macro that equips AF boots is a good idea.
-basically, stall till u get 100%tp, by the time u have enough tp for another DE, that one should kill him, dont be afraid to use some pots mid battle
-I ended up having like 86%tp, and him having 1/4th hp and me like 1/5th so i used PD and got the rest of my tp to use my last DE. id recommend saving PD for the last resort.

Bring all the evas+ gear possible. thats the best possible gear u can have, that money flow allows, also, agi+ will help. a high DMG dagger, not low delay, and a shield is a good idea too. hi pots(6-10), daedulus wing or icarus wing, i forget which is the 1 u can buy. bolts are a good idea if ur skill is capped. dont go crazy with armor change macros, i did that the first time got my ass handed to me lol. dont rely on ur evasion too much. maat is a thf too, so he has some pretty good accuracy. dont be afraid that u will take some hits.
