Chatbox

Can we talk with tonberrys and turtles at least on the chatbox? :D

After I installed it on my board, things blew up, in a good way. It's basically a lounge, and flashchat and others just can't do it for ya. Let me know if you want the exact one I'm using.

Only problem is it's a bit server heavy, but it should be ok. You can always replace it with one that's not so ajaxy later if you'd like.

I think that was the biggest thing that pulled us away from installing it. We aren't exactly sure how the server will be able to handle it. That isn't a no though! :)

I was against it for MONTHS for slightly different reasons.. Basically, I was wrong, lol.

Your server should be able to handle it. If not... :( :( :(

You can ban people from the chatbox, as well.

The only problem with the one I'm using is that you can still see ignored people's chatbox posts. CYB needs to fix that shit, but apparently, all his users are on ignore.

But it's still a good product.

What about instead of a chatbox, get an irc channel, and then make a separate forum page for the irc web chat? (not having to download a client)

A chatbox imo is a bit annoying... Many other people would agree, especially if its viewable by everyone. If a chatbox is added, could it be made viewable by a usergroup?

I would go with a usergroup to view it. That way would be easy for people to be banned from it (just remove them from the user group) and people could very easily leave the user group if they didn't even want to see it.

Yes, this would work. Do IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

just making sure, but when you say chatbox you mean something like an IM board?

I think its a good idea, as it could be a venue to ask the small questions that may not warrant a whole thread, but you don't exactly know who to PM about it. Or as a place for quick questions to the staff about any sort of problem.

Yes, it can be members only. You can also put it exactly in one area if you like so that it does not get in the way, and you can make it minimized by default, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't see the harm in trying it out for a week or two. If it turns out to be a big steaming pile of shit we just uninstall it.

Exactly my mindset when I finally installed it on my board. It pretty much completed my forum.

Your forum =/= Qcdn.

I don't think it will be a good idea, looking at the userbase, it'll just be a spam fest or a place to flamebait.

But eh, we can always try it for a week or two, shouldn't hurt.

Wow, duh. Thank you for reminding me of this very, very important point. I can assure you that a lot of forums have certain things in common, like members, threads, posts, and a chance that people will utilize a chatbox. We also have our problem posters. The key is to MODERATE your chatbox, but allow it some leeway as it will get very busy.

If it's not a good idea, you'll know soon. As I've said before, this is a two minute install, and it takes even LESS time to uninstall.

Not exactly a high-risk plugin.

Carry on

I say yes for a chatbox. That way i can just type in "MAKE GET THE FUCK ON AIM" and he would do so.

I SAY YES IN BIG BOLD FONT.

That is all.
