Ciaraleone

I teverything has to be worked for in this game, thats the way they made it on purpose... not just to extend your playing time but to add a heightened sense of accomplishment to gaining levels and items in this game....

I was going to suggest that an MMO is not for someone like ciaraleone, but now that I think about it, even single player RPGs have moments where you hit a wall if your gear or level isnt good enough...

I remember ffx when I couldnt beat a certain boss, so i spent maybe 1 or 2 hours grinding AP for my sphere grid because i was missing key abilities for the fight. the sense of accomplishment was so much greater by having to work for it... and really it should be something like that for anyone that enjoys these kinds of games....

but ciaraleone... if you really dont want to play an rpg with work involved... I hear Yoville on facebook is click2win

Bold is win. :D

A little off topic, but I also remember grinding exp in FFX for the sphere grid, haha. You're right in the fact that you get a sense of pride for accomplishing things like that in a game. My SCH is taking ages to get to 75 because I keep stopping to get gil for spells and gear. I love it when I get to put on a new piece of gear, even if it's just something small.

Man this is quite inspiring; I'm so making a mule/75 RNG called Niger and gonna try to level that up using purely bronze bolts and a crossbow +1

crossbow+1 because i have 1 handy

The view point some might have (I doubt this person does) Is why stop to get a minor upgrade in gear when the time farming could be used leveling to get to an even better upgrade of gear such as RSE, AF, or pieces that overlap from another job (I know this was their first job)

Going out and making money is quite counter productive when it's going to be useless in 3-5 levels. However, some are just slackers

If it's a piece you can use for 15-20 levels, farm til you can afford it. Don't be wearing a Royal Knight's Chainmail at level 60.

If it's a piece that's only useful for a single level or even three, it's probably not worth it. (exceptions include level 72 pieces that are still useful @ lv75 of course)

A person nowadays can even abuse the FoV system while they're farming too, if they're at a good enough job/level and not farming off of weak monsters. That way they're having their fun exping, collecting tabs, and also collecting about 500-1k gil per hour. They never had that luxury back in the day, and prices for all items are much, much lower.

I actually think it's a lot easier nowadays for people who want to make a little bit of pocket change.

See, the thing about getting a piece of gear for a few lvls is that you also have to factor in how long you'll be in that lvl range. Anything under 40, ya, I can see skipping since lvling below that is fast but once exp starts to slow down and you exp less and less then I think the person should get that piece of gear.

Either way, the Ciara person needs to stop playing video games or get some sense of pride. I do of course have some sexist theories about woman and video games but I know that if I post em bitches will yell at me.

Ya know? This kinda thing makes me really appreciate the folks who learn the jobs they play and gear them properly. With that public service announcement outta the way, gather round, kiddies, Uncle Reau's got a story for ya :P

Back when I was buit a wee little Bst approaching the dreaded Hauby level, I was pleased that my hard work was about to be rewarded for all the farming, BCNM-ing, and tele-taxiing I'd been doin in spare time. I hit level 58 and knew that another weekend or so's worth of farmin would put me pretty much square on what was then the 2 mil price tag that haubies were sportin.

That was December, 2006.

Suddenly, without warning, prices EXPLODED. Nobody, I mean nobody could afford anything. Me and all my LS pals watched in horror as prices doubled . . . then doubled again. That hauby that had just barely been out of my reach was suddenly another 8 million gil away.

Well, I did what I'm prone to do when I get frustrated - beat my head against the wall and demand that it break. My tried and true methods weren't good enough for me anymore. I needed 8 million gil. Now. Bullheadedly, I stopped levelin entirely, abandoned all my steady methods of getting gil, and instead leaped at every get-rich-quick scheme that came to my attention. Bad luck, on top of bad luck. I killed NMs, got no drop, spammed Under Observation til my seals were gone and came away with not so much as a measly Ni, crafted and crafted just to have my items perpetually undercut by the same RMT asshats that helped jack up the economy in the first place. I was so mad that, even though I never told anyone, I was on the verge of quitting.

Unbeknownst to me, someone else in our LS had stopped leveling too. His name was Smurph, one of our casual "underclassmen." I'd hear people jokingly ask him if he ever planned on leaving Jeuno again. "I'm on a mission," he'd reply.

Well, one day, someone asked for some help with an Eldieme coffer and I said I'd lend a hand. I wasn't alone in my surprise to hear Smurph say he'd head that way too. When I got to the Necropolis, Smurph was waitin out front, and opened a trade with me as soon as I came into range. It was a hauburgeon.

I was shocked! "I can't take this," I said.

"lol take it, you jackass." Smurph told me, "It's for all the times you've helped me."

Apparently, Smurph had spent the preceding month and a half literally spamming teles for people. Every single moment he was online. I'd be lying if I said it didn't choke me up a little bit. I was literally knocked flat on my ass by the gift, especially it coming at my lowest point as it did.

I tell you all this story to get to this point. The joy and sense of accomplishment I got from soloing was NOTHING compared to what I felt at that moment. Any flatline can take up space in a party and level. That's no accomplishment at all, really. It ain't the speed you level at, it ain't how many jobs you have leveled, and it for damn sure ain't a Maat's cap - it's how you level; how you gear and how you play.

To anyone who thinks otherwise, try levelin with an entire party who step out as ill-prepared as you, and enjoy that 4k an hour.

And to everyone who says farming is boring, I got two words for ya:

Level Bst :P

Nice.

Seeing all of the "I stopped leveling until..." stories made me remember one of my own (ahh, memories).

My first level 50 job in this game was BLM, and I had a rule about leveling without the proper gear/spells one level in advance. Sure, I lucked out by having someone buy Sleepga 2 for me back when it was 1.4 million, but as I approached level 60, so eager to finally be able to wear a full set of AF gear, I had one problem: a Penitent's Rope. They were 1-1.3 million at the time, and for a guy who'd never had more than 250k, that was damn near impossible to obtain.

Anyhow, as much as I loved BLM, I hung it up. I refused to be ill-equipped. I gave it up for about two years, in fact, until I got WAR to 75, started a little endgame gilmaking, and prices had lowered a bit. Needless to say, dropping 800k on that rope two years later was a huge achievement for me, and still one of my biggest thrills in this game.

I don't expect others to wait two years to party again with a job they like, but if you truly enjoy the job, you'll want to play it at its peak. And you can't put a price on that.

Stay classy, Ciaraleone.

I've helped out people in my LS who didn't want to farm before--it never works out well. They just move on to the next big piece and complain about how they don't have THAT and don't have the time/money/effort to work for it. As soon as they have that big piece of gear, the gratitude's gone before the sheen of newness is off the gear. It's sad, but giving things to the lazy just perpetuates their sense of entitlement.

All I really have to say about that bazaar comment it that it will at least make people aware there is something wrong with her. You don't really get flamed unless you're crap, IMO.

Meh it's hit or miss with that. Actually I believe it's how a lot of us learned of QCDN my dear =) I kid you not. Oooh we should have a poll!

I got flamed for not putting up with some PMS fit some douchebag threw. For some reason people think others will actually put up with temper tantrums and insults, I fucked off on his pt without having even been in the zone for more than 5 minutes for his antics. I was never shit, inexperienced yea, always willing to learn.

You may be right in saying there's something wrong with me (you should know by now lol), but not necessarily everyone else who gets flamed =p

I think what made farming unbearable for me was that my farming came in 2006 when those prices exploded. I spent a lot of time as thf/nin farming which is what killed my taste for the game.

I'm not the best geared. Sure, I hate to farm, and I don't have anyone to run BCNM's with me (well, the time to), never any Kindred Seals to do KSNM's, but hell, if someone had told me I needed Evokers Di, I would've said, "Can you give me a few?" went and pawned off all the excesss gear I didn't need/had lying around and bought it.

It's what I've always done. If I absolutley need money, I'll spam Royal Jelly, always get an Archer's and/or a Ni. If I'm a few grand short of a spell or weapon, I'll sell extra gear that's clogging up my MH.

It's what I did for my Paladin, when I was on Lakshimi. I needed a Mac-whassit+1, I was about 50k short, went and NPC'd all my excess gear and had 1k left over, but I got it. I could keep hate. (was about 70k then, I roughly kept about 20k on me, now I keep 200k+ on me)

I hate being gimp. If I have gimped gear on a job, it won't even leave the MH unless I'm running to buy gear and ungimping it. I'm embarrassed if my jobs are gimped. My Red Mage is at least half-way decent. Sure, I don't have the fancy 300k Pentints Rope, and I look like every other Red Mage on the game, but at least I know how to play my jobs and gear them.

Heh, if not for Alobont, my poor Dragoon would always have been gimped. He's the one who taught my noob ass not to TP in STR rings. Hell, between him and Bankim, I'd never have learned how to gear/party/merit right, on any job. So, thank the leaders of Mutiny for one less DRG/PLD/RDM/WHM~

Ahh yes, the early days of some of us back in the day. I remember stopping to farm up the ass to have enough for that stupid Gluttony Sword. PLD was my first 75 and I loved busting my ass to get the right gear for the job. PLD always has been my first love (job wise) and to this day it still is.

Lacking money is no excuse to be gimp. Most good pieces of gear that last have their r/ex counter part, or can be bought after farming for a few days. I remember I used to farm the crap outta Giddeus for beehive chips to make my money, and with FoV, its even easier now to exp, make money, and get seals all at the same time. This chick/dude is just lazy, pure and simple.

Pld was my first job to 75 too on Jeska and I still remember the day I bought my Glutonny sword it was a bargin at 500k they had dropped a bit and I took the plunge, it was the most expensive thing I'd ever bought in this game but it wouldnt be the last.

Ones needs grow in this game, and thus I farm, bcnm/ksnm, etc to get my needs.

I agree, FoV is a great way to farm and exp at the same time, last night I got lv 31 on Ranger doing a few pages at rolenberry fields, I also got 16 beehive chips and nine silk threads as well as some gil and exp not bad for a slow night in the game and hardly a bad way to spend a few hours either. ^^

This reminds me of my RL friend who played the game for a short time. I PL'd and gave him gil all the time and when I didn't PL him or give him gil, he'd throw a hissy fit. Eventually he quit because I wouldn't "help" him anymore. We're still friends though!

You may be right in saying there's something wrong with me (you should know by now lol), but not necessarily everyone else who gets flamed =p

It's more 75% hit, 25% miss. If the person flaming someone is an idiot, then most likely it'll be a miss. If the person flaming is new and flames about something stupid, it'll be a miss. But if you put together a well thought out flame and it makes sense to flame them, it'll most likely be a hit.

Examples:

This is a good flame and has informed people to avoid her because she doesn't want to play the game right and most likely just gimp your set up.

Bad flame? http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=68071

Ahhh. Good times, gooood times.

Not everyone who gets flamed for being a noob is beyond hope. I started the game during the 360 rush, and as such, the only people I knew were basically no better off than I was. I had no idea where to party, had no business leading parties, and really didn't understand enough about the game to be playing it.

I got flamed for not using food. While on Paladin. While fighting bats. I was WAY wrong, but having never experienced an honest-to-god GOOD party I didn't know what I was missing. It wasn't until literally a year later that someone grabbed me and explained CALMLY how current gear theory works.

I didn't know what gear macros were as a level 65~ warrior. If no one teaches you, its impossible to learn.

Of course now is a much different story, but everyone had to start somewhere. A large part of learning is not only having a patient teacher, but also a willing student. The subject of this flame is not only a member of a linkshell with people who know better, but was addressed in two parties (at least) within a week or each other where people more or less said "You really need to learn what a corsair's responsibility is" and now she's wearing the fact she's ignorant of her role as a badge of pride in her bazaar comment.

Maybe in two years she'll know better, but if she's acting like a brat, she's going to be treated like one, for sure.
