Feedback Cleaning up the Job Discussion (JD) section

Writing new "guides" is a waste of time imo, there's already guides for every job available on multiple different sites. If people are too lazy to actually look for them, what's the point in writing more? If there's something not covered in those guides then they can post here asking the question (although 9/10 time it's possible to link them to wiki referencing said guides that they havn't read...).

This was relatively the only negative that came up while discussing weather or not to actually implement the job forums. The basic idea behind it was that while there are plenty of other places to get a guide from, wouldn't you rather get a guide from someone you trust and could actually talk to?

Problem is, i'm afraid that this place "where people on our server come to chat or look for advice" is misleading, in the job section at least. It just makes us look bad, when it could be easily resolved.

Thats not really a problem that more organized job forums will solve, lol.

There's only one problem with that though. There's people on this site that are pretty smart when it comes to the game but would possibly be ignored or shrugged off on this site if they made a guide just because of who they are.

I thought at some point, there were several job guides are posted on QCDN, unless those were tossed out. I remember seeing them a few years ago, so this is likely possible.

I personally see nothing wrong with people writing guides, but I agree that they aren't really needed. You can find guides on anything, and even some of them are just repeated information. The biggest problem I have with guides is that they are pretty general, which is why I liked the sub forms for jobs discussions, since you can ask specific questions.

I don't think we need to split into Beginner/Advanced. As much as QCDN wants to bring in new traffic, a lot of the same people have been here or years. And a lot of people have been playing this game for years. QCDN, in my opinion at least, doesn't have that many new players coming to the site to ask beginner job questions, and a lot of people who pick up a new job know well enough how to get started. Like I said, that's just my opinion. I see the job discussion forms as discussions, not really "How to's".

Edit: Upon further inspection of the job discussion form, I don't really see anyone asking 'beginner' type questions. Most of it is comparing gear, advice that other players just decide to bring to the table or people just discussing random things like white mage melee.

After reading through this thread, I honestly think this is the main point and best quote.

yeah, any other ffxi forum has this. and it's not just ffxi, any high traffic game eventually has someone complain and the sticky gets made. the GTA series comes to mind.

I won't lie. I'm perfectly happy with either the jobs forum as it is, or broken down by job functionality. In any case, its easier to leave it like it is.

Something I want to mention though. There have been a couple of people expressing interest in contributing "sticky" topics to the boards. If you feel you post something that is just generally useful, let us know and we'll sticky it. If the main concern is content, this solves that problem.

Also, don't just post in the thread to sticky it. PM myself or Arc, or report the post.
