College Football- The Empire that is the SEC

It's hard for me to say Miss. State is anything over weak, just for arguments sake, despite knowin' they usually turn out to be a pain in the ass. That loss to La. Tech. would fool people to thinkin' they're a weak team since they don't know any better. To be really honest, I don't think a single team in the SEC is weak, not even Kentucky. They may not win a whole lot but dammit they can flat out ruin a good season for another team in a heartbeat.

Hey Miss State is like you said, they're a thorn and can upset one of the top 5 SEC teams, mainly because they have a top defense, though I don't think they'll be upsetting anybody this year. I've never seen an offense that pathetic.

Heh, yeah I remember it too good how they upset my Tigers last season. I was a little disappointed in the meetin' this year. Auburn did everything they could to loose than game and Miss. State never capitalized. I will say this, defensively, both teams looked extremely solid. The last two years SEC teams have upset Ohio State (OS) to win championships, not from offense but because OS can't play against teams with a bad-ass defense. Despite Florida crushin' them 41-14, Florida didn't have an offense considered to be top ranked even with Tim Tebow (that's why Florida was never picked, in major media, to win the game because of OS' offense, lawl). Same for LSU, they didn't have a godly offense but their defense was a top rankin' defense. I think Auburn's offense was ranked 92 last season and they ended up goin' 9-4 (5-3 in the SEC).

You guys play LSU this weekend! The team that has won the last 7 meetings have won the division!

Yeah you guys have a great defense, though I think you guys are suspect to the pass. USM put up some yards on yall the 2nd half, and could have put up more, similar to your guys first half if we didn't turn the ball over twice in the redzone in the 4th.

I'm thinking Tuberville should have kept his traditional offense lol, or at least for this year, because you guys are stacked, and those players weren't recruited for a spread.

Yeah, horrible year to change up the offense but I think it's largely in part due to them gettin' 2 new coordinators. Probably easier to adopt their style then have them run a style they don't know. The only problem with that is you're wastin' talent with your returnin' guys and lookin' to build a new program with the ones who'll be around 2-3 years still. So we're stacked but until they learn the new system I don't see us wining against any solid teams like LSU. I'm already geared up for a steam-roll but it doesn't matter really. As much as I'd love to see Auburn win, LSU has the better chance of a championship so if they win it'll be fine (this doesn't apply to the Alabama game, if we loose to Alabama I'll be livid. Thankfully that hasn't happened in a while). I just enjoy seein' the trophy at the end of the year go to teams who earn it rather than teams who play in piss poor conferences (I'm lookin' at USC and OS right now, wow what an easy schedule. My old high school team could steam roll that schedule, aside from USC).

LSU is having QB problems as well, so thats a plus for you guys. Honestly, I don't know why Tuberville decided to get coordinaters and go spread? Is it because Florida has been doing it successfully in the conference? You guys ran a traditional pro-style offense pretty damn good. You guys were younger last year, so I blame that on the offense not doing too hot. This year, I had you guys winning the SEC as a darkhorse (LSU, Georgia, and Florida were picked ahead), but I'm not sure now that that offense has been instilled. SEC has been built to excellence on power defense, and smash mouth football. Why change something that wasn't broke?

Well, now that the pass is back in style I assume he's tryin' to find a better suited passing offense (dumb move). I really don't know though. It's one of those things that's so "left-field" and ridiculous no one can make sense of it and he can't even put into words what the hell he's thinkin'.

I'm playin' golf with a LSU heavy group tomorrow, it's gonna be a shit-talk fest like no other. So excited right now.

I gotta say, even though they lost, Auburn restored my faith in them this season. That was a hell of a show they put on against LSU. The only thing I hated about it was that it was the exact replica of last years game. Hopefully they'll only get better and better as they work out the kinks in this new offense. Ol' Tubs never fails to amaze me makin' changes that big in less than a week of practice. Despite the winner of this match usually winnin' the SEC West, I don't see that happenin' this year is Auburn keeps this up. New offense puttin' up 21 points on the best damn defense in college football is great in my book.

Movin' on to Georgia, they walked in to a Pac-10 house, slung their cawks around a bit and left with a win.

Ohio State only put up 28 points on Troy State. I lived in Alabama for 13 years and never even realized they had a football team. Probably didn't considerin' this:

Wikipedia said:
Troy University football began playing in the NCAA's Division I-A in 2001, became a football only member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2004, and joined the conference for all other sports in 2005. In 2001, Troy defeated Mississippi State University at Scott Field in Starkville, Mississippi, by a count of 21-9 to notch the Trojans' first victory over a BCS level program. Troy has beaten both the University of Missouri and Oklahoma State University of the Big XII in 2004 and 2007 at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium on the Troy University campus. The Trojan football team made its first bowl game appearance in the Silicon Valley Football Classic on December 30, 2004, but lost to Northern Illinois, 34-21. In 2006, Troy won the Sun Belt Conference for the first time after defeating Middle Tennessee in dramatic fashion toward the end of the 2006 season. Troy represented the Sun Belt conference in the 2006 New Orleans Bowl where the Trojans defeated the Rice Owls of Conference USA by a score of 41-17. Troy won the NAIA national football championship in 1968 and the NCAA Division II national football championship in 1984 and 1987.

For those who don't know, the Sunbelt Conference is mostly made up of teams on par with high level high school programs. Heh.

Satisfaction all around today. Just need USC to get beat on Thursday.

You guys let that one slip away again. Todd missed a wide open WR in the end on that last drive.

I don't see LSU winning it all this year. I know you don't wont to hear this, but Bama is looking outstanding, and they're playing the best football in the SEC so far.

Florida's defense is sick this year, kinda weird huh? There offense is horrible. Tebow has bad stats.

It's not that their horrible they are just trying to be conservative when they can be because of their schedule. We won 30-6 without having to unleash our beasts. And yes our Defense will be one of the best by mid season. Janoris Jenkins remember that name! Freshmen CB hes a stud coverage CB and so far has covered all his WRs perfectly. God its such a relief from what I had to deal with last year.

I feel the same way. The only thing I care enough to worry about this year, Tiger's wise, is can they pull this new offense together in time to beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl. So far, Alabama would be my sure bet but since it's towards the end of the year, and considerin' how well they did against the top defense in the nation yesterday, I like their chances. Next year, Auburn should be a power house.

Also, something I forgot to mention yesterday. The first time ever that one conference has occupied 5 top ten spots.

The new AP poll is also out and it's pathetic. Nope, I didn't make this poll up, it's real, no joke. When you're done laughin' at how stupid it is, read below it.

1. USC (62) 2-0 1,621
2. Oklahoma 3-0 1,484
3. Georgia (2) 4-0 1,475
4. Florida (1) 3-0 1,442
5. LSU 3-0 1,363
6. Missouri 4-0 1,360
7. Texas 3-0 1,174
8. Alabama 4-0 1,132
9. Wisconsin 3-0 1,091
10. Texas Tech 4-0 962
11. Brigham Young 4-0 919
12. Penn State 4-0 891
13. South Florida 4-0 798
14. Ohio State 3-1 790
15. Auburn 3-1 785
16. Wake Forest 3-0 711
17. Utah 4-0 574
18. Kansas 3-1 555
19. Boise State 3-0 363
20. Clemson 3-1 300
21. Vanderbilt 4-0 242

Teams like Texas Tech, BYU, Utah, and South Florida have no business in the rankings until they actually play teams worth their salt. Furthermore, Ohio State who put up ONLY 28 on Troy and gave up 10, to boot, is number 15??? Over a team who lost by 5 points to a great team (LSU). Let's also not forget the royal ass whippin' they got from another undeserving, height wise, ranked team. Vanderbilt should be higher up, I mean, they've played some teams, which is more than I can say about South Florida, BYU, and Texas Tech, Utah again along with Boise state, Wake Forest and Penn State . Right now this chart just looks like an idiot made it on the crapper. Also, I'd like to note, Mizzou, aside from not knowin' what defense is (look at their scores), hasn't played ANYONE this year and struggled with Illinois AND, wait for it, wait for it... Buffalo, who? Yeah, I'm wonderin' too. Also I should note that Oklahoma doesn't play a single football game this *entire* season, unless you're one of these idiots who thinks Texas' team is worth even bein' called a team this year.

As far as this year goes, not like it hasn't been true most other years as well, the best team in college football is the team who wins the SEC championship. Least they play 5-6 good games a season which is more than we can say about these other teams.

Bama should be higher, and Auburn droppped to far.

I do think BYU deserves to be ranked though, because they have absolutely destroyed teams and have a shot a BSC bowl. Though they shouldn't be ranked as high as some other teams though.

I don't have a problem with BYU technically, despite how I've ragged on them it would seem. They've destroyed, like you said, so far but really, they haven't played anyone. They do play USC, eventually, though but I don't think one game will drop them down far enough considerin' how they've raped thus far against these piss-weak teams. Hopefully the real poll that matters, the BCS official poll, will be a lot better than these AP polls. They usually wait until mid season to post them and keep them updated though, which is the way it should be. I hope this year, after all the controversy that has surrounded their last few years worth of polls, they step their decisions up. The last two years they've been made fools of by LSU and Florida. The Florida win was especially crucial to the SEC's plight for a better ranking system, just hopefully they'll take it all in and actually apply it this year. However, we have a ranking reform to look forward to in the next three years unless the big stink last year about it was a lie.

Hell, because they don't have to leave their conference to prove anything, unlike teams in other conferences. It may only be an opinion that the SEC is the hardest conference to win out of, but that's the case with anything sports wise really. However, despite it bein' an opinion you don't hear it from EPSN or any sports news source year AFTER year AFTER year because it's a dismissible or a highly incorrect opinion. I thought Anglis was crazy to say people were in denial but I guess he was right.

Let's have some more fun:

USC's 2008 schedule (a "top dawg" team to the r-tards):
8-30-08 Virginia (weak)
9-13-08 Ohio State (weak this year and obviously last year, out of conference, lulz)
9-25-08 Oregon State (weak)
10-4-08 Oregon (ehh, maybe, maybe not but only in their conference)
10-11-08 Arizona State (weak)
10-18-08 Washington State (weak)
10-25-08 Arizona (weak)
11-1-08 Washington (weak)
11-8-08 California (maybe conference wise)
11-15-08 Stanford (weak)
11-29-08 Notre Dame (weak)
12-6-08 UCLA (weeeeeak 59-0 loss to BYU, ouch)

Auburn's 2008 schedule (a middle of the road team)
08/30/08 vs. Louisiana-Monroe (weak)
09/06/08 vs. Southern Miss (weak)
09/13/08 at Mississippi State (weak but usually end up bein' a thorn)
09/20/08 vs. LSU (strong)
09/27/08 vs. Tennessee (decent)
10/04/08 at Vanderbilt (decent)
10/11/08 vs. Arkansas (weak/decent but they'll force close games eventually, no doubt.)
10/23/08 at West Virginia (hard to say, decent last year but so-so, so far)
11/01/08 at Mississippi (weak/decent)
11/08/08 vs. Tennessee-Martin (HC) (weak)
11/15/08 vs. Georgia (solid)
11/29/08 at Alabama (solid)

I love how you call everyone else blind homers but then post stuff like this. So Ohio State and Virgina fall into the "weak" catagory but Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi are all "decent".

Have you seen Vanderbilt's record? 4-0, and 4-0 is just that no matter how you put it.

Ole Miss almost beat the best team in the ACC, and Ole miss is supposed to be the 2nd worst in the SEC. Tennesseee is just that, average, not horrible, but nothing special.

That's all fine and dandy, I just think it's humerous how the SEC homers can look at their schedule and call those teams 'decent', look at USC's and label OSU as 'weak', and then call ME a 'blind homer'. I don't even like USC or OSU, it's just the irony is rather hilarious.

Even if OSU was great... Name another team USC plays this year in that schedule that's great. They have a pathetic schedule, plain and simple. Even OSU has a slightly tougher schedule than USC and that's not because their schedule included USC.

Let's also go back to this:

alanon said:
I know Ohio State got blown out in the title game last year, but it was the title-game after all, and what people fail to remember is that it was a rebuilding year for Ohio State. They are LOADED with returning starters and talent for a run this year.

Ohio State wasn't rebuilding last year. You don't make it into a title game on a rebuilding year. To humor you though, let's just say they were rebuilding, for fun and giggles, how do you think they managed to get to the title game? I don't think it was because of their uber hard schedule to pull through, you? As for this year, they aren't loaded. You don't give up 10 to lil' ol' Troy and only put up 28 if you're loaded. If you're loaded you don't loose by 32 points in the only game you play all season long, you at least manage a TD for christ's sake. I know a lot of OSU fans like to call it a rebuilding year, but they're the only ones who'll tell you that. OSU fans love their excuses though, classics I can remember: "Home field advantage", "Injuries", and "too much time off before the game".

Also, there isn't a single shred of irony in anything I said, even if you were right. Maybe they let you slide with this shit over at the Fox Sports boards but I actually keep up with college football as a whole. You wanna come in this thread and talk down on the SEC and talk up another conference at least make sure the conference has a backbone to pull and argument from in the first place. Wouldn't hurt to know how irony works either.

I know how irony works, do you? I already explained the irony of your blind homer statement, so you can reread if you wish. The fact is, you are the homer. You are the one that continually argues how amazingly awesome the SEC is and rips apart anything that isn't SEC. In the same post you point out how they have 5 SEC teams in the top 10 (which I only count 4 btw) and then turn around and talk about how flawed the polls are. I'm the homer? Have I even trumpetted a conference? Perfect example, you have Tenn listed as decent even though they lost to a weak UCLA team (and they are weak, no argument there)

I think USC is easily the best team in the land right now. Let me reiterate once again that I am not only most decidedly not a fan of USC, but I HATE them. Who's the "homer" in this thread again?

I wouldn't consider him a homer because he has facts that back up his arguements that the SEC is the best conference in the nation. Thats not being a homer, that's just saying the plain truth. It's also not his opinion, it's the opinion of a lot of southern people and just about every sports media there is. Usually the biggest homer's are Pac-10 and Big-10. Pac-10 has no arguement this year, so they should just shut the hell up. Mountain West conference has swept them this year I believe.

Homer's are usually arguing that their conference or team is the best when it's not ranked that high, or they believe should be ranked higher.

I don't think Strid is arguing that USC isn't any good. I believe they should retain that no.1 spot for now. Why? Because they did destroy OSU (without beanie wells though). Let them stay there. USC is a team out of the SEC that actually is pretty damn good. They get all the california talent to themselves. They run a pure professional team style offense and defense. They have fast/big players. Thats a team could compete in the SEC year in and out.

I think Oklahoma and Missouri are pretty good too. They have great QB play. I'm still not sold on Kansas though, and I've stated that Texas is overrated (LOL COLT MCOY).

No you don't, yes I do.

No you didn't. That's not irony.

You are the one that continually argues how amazingly awesome the SEC is and rips apart anything that isn't SEC.

The only conference, other than the SEC, that plays anyone in their schedule this year is the Big-12 and that's only one or two games. Of course I'm gonna talk shit. Besides, it common knowledge the SEC is the hardest conference to win out of. When you turn on a Pac-10 game on ESPN they aren't EVER sittin' there talkin' about how hard a conference it is.

In the same post you point out how they have 5 SEC teams in the top 10 (which I only count 4 btw) and then turn around and talk about how flawed the polls are.

The poll before that one came out, that's why I said, "something I forgot to mention yesterday". Kinda "homer" esque (and by that I mean the idiot part of homer) to not pick that up, eh?

I'm the homer? Have I even trumpetted a conference? Perfect example, you have Tenn listed as decent even though they lost to a weak UCLA team (and they are weak, no argument there)

Let's just say that Tenn. is weak. They are, they wont not put up a fight but let's say they are completely weak. I missed, eh, one out of 24. That's not bad.

I think USC is easily the best team in the land right now. Let me reiterate once again that I am not only most decidedly not a fan of USC, but I HATE them. Who's the "homer" in this thread again?

Not sure I see a homer but I definitely see an idiot. When USC plays another Football game this season it'll be a bowl game, or the Oregon game -maybe-. Yet, they're the best team in the land? Give me a fuckin' break. You're either a closet USC fan or the biggest fuckin' idiot I've ever heard speak sports.

I'd give credit where credit is due even if I didn't like a team in the conference. It's just not in the cards for that shit this year.
