Well everyone, it's that time again. For all of you interested, I'm going to once more throw the compiled information about NPC's post genkai for everyone's convenient access. We're going to start right from the point when I believe the Genkai can begin...

Quest to raise your NPC relationship

Ok first thing's first. Prior to popular belief, I do NOT believe this quest is the actually Genkai. Skaw and I were talking about it, and we believe this just raises your NPC relationship a bunch, maybe opens some of the new post-update options(I wouldn't know since I did the quest before any NPC summoning), and allows the chain of sub-quests and quests to be accessed when your NPC is appropriate level.

This quest begins at Luto as usual...After speaking with her, you'll get a cutscene. Following this CS, you should head to Windurst Waters. At the Opistery you will find a little taru-taru dressed in all green named Tosuka-Porika. Speak to him to trigger your next CS. This quest will involve acquiring a few food goods to proceed. Here's what you'll need:

-Bison Steak
-Windurstian Salad
-Whitefish Stew
-White Bread
-San d'Orian Tea
-Icecap Rolanberry

All of these can bought from various NPC's, except for the Bison Steak(Thus the price hiking). Once you have obtained all of these, head back to Tosuka-Porika and trade him the food. This will lead to yet another CS. After viewing it, head back to Jeuno, and talk to Luto. CS, head to Port Jeuno, and speak to Khumo Daramasteh by the Kazham airship docks. Yet another CS will follow, ending with the message, "You can feel the bonds between you and your adventuring fellow strengthen!" or something to that effect. Congrats, you've completed the first leg of a very long quest.

*Note, this is NOT the Genkai. Your NPC will still be capped after completing this.*

NPC Emptiness sub-quest

This is the next step in the line of quests you have to complete, to my knowledge. I did this next, so that's how I'll run the order. To attain this quest, it would seem you have to summon your NPC 3 times after completing the previous quest. After the third summon, you can go to a Rendevouz Point and and select "Talk about quests." This will trigger your NPC to mention being asked to investigate the emptiness, and he/she will invite you along. Once you've gotten this message from your NPC, no official quest will appear anywhere, but it will be triggered. The NPC will not mention it again.

After getting this message, head to a basic Promyvion zone, and enter. I went in naked because this leg of the quest is quite simple if you are careful. Once inside the Promyvion, you will see a Rendevouz Point to the right of you. Examine it, and your NPC will automatically be summoned. You now have 45 minutes to find a ??? on the first floor. It is really quite simple. Once you find it, your NPC is awarded with 300 EXP, and you will be offered a warp to the entrance of the Promyvion. You CAN select to keep exploring, but I just took the warp, given I was alone. You are now done with this leg of the quest.

Return to a Rendevouz Point in a starting city once you complete this, and your NPC will thank you for your help and present you with a Tactics Pearl. This acts exactly as a Signal Pearl, except it has 4 charges, and a 10 minute reuse. I am not sure if it can be recharged, but I have a feeling things like this will be given for other sub quests involving your NPC. Use it as you will, BUT DO NOT WASTE IT WHILE YOUR NPC IS STILL LEVEL CAPPED.

Here's where the real fun begins...

The actual Genkai

Ok, here's where accounts seem to clash about what exactly must be done to trigger the quest. For one, you HAVE to have the quest from Angelica in Windurst completed. That first one she gives you, where you must pose for her in some random low level armor. If this is done, you're well on your way.

I believe your NPC must be level 50, with capped EXP to trigger it, but some people claim they got the quest at lower levels. So the relationship with your NPC may be the only other factor in triggering this quest.

To begin this quest, head to Selbina and speak to Diederik. A CS will be triggered, and you will be given a choice between going to Windurst to speak with Angelica, or to Bastok to speak with Umberto. I took the path of going to Bastok. I'm not sure what happens in the CS with Angelica if you go there instead, but it would seem no matter which leg you pick, you're goal will be the same.

If you want to save time, take the Bastok leg. After the next CS, you will have to excavate a Bal Shell from Korroloka Tunnel. So being in Bastok makes this faster. Grab a pickaxe and head to Korroloka. The Bal Shell will automatically be mined up on the first try if you have the quest. Return to Umberto, and give him the shell. This will trigger ANOTHER CS. Now you have to high tail it back to Selbina. Speak with Diederik again for CS. Following this, head to Castle Oztroja. Go up to the second floor, and head to the east courtyard(The outside area). Follow the ledge around to a Brass Door. Examine it for a CS. After that, head in and examine the ???. This will spawn a Black Mage class Yagudo NM, Yagudo Muralist. I'm not sure what his exact level is, but I'm going to go ahead and assume you and your NPC could solo him at level 50 together. My 75 PLD pretty much brought him down before me or my NPC could get to 100 TP. His strongest spell seems to be Stone III.

After defeating the NM, examine the ??? again until you get the key item, Opalescent Stone. Your NPC will take off after this, and you will need to head back to Windurst. Speak to Angelica for a CS, and you will recieve the key item, "Painting of an Old Woman." Return to Bastok to speak with Umberto once final time, and another CS will ensue. No official message will say the level cap has been raised, but congratulations. You have completed Genkai I for your NPC. Also, you will be granted the title, Team Player.

*On a side note, if you head back to Jeuno, and speak to Luto, you will be able to give your NPC yet another weapon upgrade. For GAX using NPC, the next weapon is the Hydro Axe. As for the others, I am not sure, but if I get the list translated, I will post it here.*

Blighted Gloom:

Tsuim hit 53 last night and after my leveling session today, she didn't level...But this quest was now available from Luto. So let's assume you need to use your Signal Pearl 3 more times following previous quest. Talk to Luto, and you will recieve a CS. She will direct you to one of three dungeons, Ranguemont Pass, Ordelle's Caves, or Korroloka Tunnel. Go to whichever she specified and search for a ??? point. This will spawn a Notorius Monster slime named "Metallic Slime." Your NPC will also be summoned to fight alongside you. Once again, this thing was a pushover...Even weaker than the BLM NM from the previous quest.

Once you've defeated the slime, examine the ??? again to recieve the key item, "Vitrallum." Return to Luto with this for another CS. At this point, you will need to head to Lake Mechieume in Jugner Forest. You need to enter Jugner through King Ranperre's Tomb to get to the ??? you need.

When you reach the ???, you will get another CS with no fight involved. The storyline actually starts to get interesting by now, so enjoy. Once this CS ends, you will get the message "You feel the bonds between you and your adventuring fellow strengthen!" once more. Blighted Gloom is now complete.

Regaining Trust(Genkai II):

More quests, yay! This quest starts at Luto as usual. It's official that # of NPC summons is what triggers these quests. The only other pre-req is obviously completing Blighted Gloom. Once you get your CS from Luto, you'll be directed to go to the Infirmary for another CS. Return to Luto following this CS, and then head to Qufim. In Qufim, head to G-8, near Behemoth's Dominion. You will find a point named "Giant Footprint." This will spawn a Giant NM that is once more, very easily defeated. Your NPC will join you for this battle.

Once you defeat the giant, examine the Giant Footprint again, and then talk to your NPC until it leaves. Return to Jeuno, and speak to Luto for another CS, then to the Infirmary once more for ANOTHER cutscene. Return to Luto AGAIN for another and bam, you're done. You can now level your NPC to 60.

Chameleon Capers:

More NPC quest fun! Ok this one is a bit long winded, so get ready to run around a lot. As usual, you trigger the quest at Luto. You will get some cutscenes, and then be asked to meet her in Ru'Lude. Head to Ru'Lude, and go into the palace. Go up the stairs, and head to that balcony overhanging Ru'Lude. Talk to the Taru in IM armor to trigger another CS. Following this CS, head to Bastok.

You need to find the store in the Bastok Mines called "Boytz's Knickknacks." Speak with the Galka at the counter here for another CS. He will inform you that you should travel to Windurst to locate an NPC named Chamama.

Chamama is located in the Timbre Timbres Tavern in Windurst Waters. Speak with her for another CS. Now, head back to Jeuno and speak with Luto again. After the CS, head to Delkfutt's Tower.

Take a right at the first fork, and follow the hallway until you reach a ???. Examine it for a CS. Continue down the hallway until you reach yet another ???. Examine this for one more CS. Now, head back to the first ??? to trigger ANOTHER CS and spawn a Notorius Monster pot. This thing is easy as all of the other's have been. Your NPC will join you in the fight as well. Once it is defeated, examine the ??? one last time for another CS and the option to choose between one of 3 Tactics Manuals. They are as follows:

Tactic's Manual: Endurance
Tactic's Manual: Might
Tactic's Manual: Fortitude

Each will unlock an 'advanced' job of sorts for your NPC, corresponding with the original job. I chose Might, which unlocked "Fierce attacker." Fortitude would unlock an advanced tanking job, while Endurance would unlock an advanced healing job(Which I've found out is "Soothing healer"). Congratulations on your new NPC job. Also, I believe you can trade the manuals, so hold onto the one you recieve and try to get a friend to choose a different one than you.

*Will add more when the next quests come up* Enjoy. :D

[Dammit Cythe, quit making people grab Fortitude when they want Soothing Healer, GOSH! Do I need to fix all your mistakes!? - Skaw]

About weapons: Even though player-wise the weapons seem like a downgrade instead of the upgrade, it's not the rule with NPCs. They can only get stronger with each weapon set increase.

I can add that for spear weilding NPCs, the third weapon upgrade is the aptly named level 24 "Spear". My friend's NPC is such an NPC. My NPC uses a scythe, and coincidently upgraded to the level 18 "Scythe".

Spear = Spear (level 24)
Scythe = Scythe (level 18)

Edit: Yay for being totally obsolete by a simultaneous and much better post. Ah well.

Bah, this isn't a competition. We wanna help everyone stay in the know about this stuff. Any input is appreciated. Skaw just happened to translate a JP chart we came across.

On a side note, I added to the original post about the next quest, "Blighted Gloom." Just recieved and completed this quest tonight. =D

Do you think the promyvion quest needs to be done before getting the Selbina one? My NPCs xp is capped at 50 and I have the angelica quest done, but I cant get the G1 quest. I havent gotten the prom one yet though, need to call once more for it.

And btw did you use all 4 charges of your tactics pearl right away after G1? I think I'm gonna do that ;o

Yea forgot to add that. I'm 90% sure you need to complete the Promyvion quest first. And I used all 4 of my Tactics Pearl charges immediately lol.

Tactics Pearl quest is a weekly repeatable event.

Oh, by the way. I have speculation on the Emptiness subquest.

Your partner gets EXP when you're finished. First time I did this, I killed 3 or 4 empty. 2 Wanderers, and 2 Weepers. She got 350 exp.

Today, I did this. I stuck around and fought a whole bunch of empty(about 40 minutes worth) and then finished the quest. She gained 1260 exp upon completion.

Unsure if they gain actual exp on the Empty, don't see why they wouldn't. The exp is small, 8-12 depending on what you kill, but that still adds up. So MAKE USE OF THOSE 45 MINUTES. Just make sure you have time to finish the quest.

Yeah, I did the prom thingy and got Genkai done. I'll finish up my tactics pearl changes tomorrow then. Good thing its a weekly quest, can lvl easier XD

PS. I was amazed at how strong my NPC was compared to the mobs in prom. I just attacked, turned around and then let my NPC kick their ass.

Just thought id add, your npc doesn't have to be lvl 50 for this quest to trigger. I'm not sure at what point it becomes available to you, but I did this tonight with my npc and she's only lvl 43. Probably will be 44 by tomorrow. Might have even been able to do it sooner, but I didn't check right after the update, though even then.. my npc was 42 durring that time. (I had kinda slacked off on leveling her) Cant seem to do anything else yet questwise, but im guessing I may need to either exp with here some and/or just wait some period of time before any additional side quests become available.

She has been talking about aurora's though with dialoge suggesting I get an Aurora Mantle for her, she doesn't say it directly though. She's 43, Aurora mantle just happens to be lvl 44, coincidence?

Added: Also aside from the above I didn't really notice anything new, no new options at the Rendevous point or anything after completion of the quest. So.. what exacty does "The bonds between you and your companion fellow strengthen" mean?

What I believe it means, is that the NPC will stay out for longer. I did the second quest leading into GII that gave me this message again, and following that, she stayed out for what felt like a lot longer.

Question about the 3rd and 4th weapon upgrades: Someone mentioned to me that you just trade the weapon to your npc, which struck me as odd, since the last two upgrades were triggered by talking to Luto, and then you knew to give your npc a new weapon.

So, from you guys who've done it already. Are they any different? Still triggered by Luto or do we now have the ability to give them directly to our npcs? I know we now seem to have a sure way to actaully trade with our npcs, since its one of the commands. Unlike before we had to go the round about way of main-menuing the trade command, even though.. that didn't do anything... *shrug* okay im rambling now. ~fin~
