Compilation of NPC companion info.(PT II; Post Genkai)

Hey Guys... just finished the Chameleon Capers Quest...

Was wondering if anyone else has finished it, and if so, what T.M. (Tactics Manual) did you pick? I chose the T.M. of Endurance and since these things are only rare, I suspect that you can trade with people who got the T.M. Might and Fortitude so you can have all three new Combat Styles.

If anyone has the Might or Fortitude T.M. and would like to trade TMs so they can add another combat style, message me in game. The Endurance T.M. lets your NPC learn how to be a 'Soothing Healer.' I'm interested to what extent the other T.M.s will have the NPC do.

Ah good, someone else has reached this as well. I got my Tactics Manual: Might last night. Gave my NPC the new attack style called "Fierce Attacker." Unfortunately, I don't notice much of any difference in it.

I do believe you are right about trading them. I was talking to Skaw last night about trading manuals since they were only Rare. I tried trading one to someone randomly to see if it would let me, and it did. So yes, exchanging these probably let's us all gain all of the 'advanced' NPC styles. Gimme a tell in game and we can trade off.

Btw, Mystery Tour says Tactics pearl can be obtained every 3 days, izzat true?

once a week, starting from the conquest tally.

Also Cythe.. 'Soothing Healer' rocks, because when you use 'Healer' the npc just spams everything like haste, silence, and etc and runs out of mp when you actually need it.

Soothing healer is like a conserative healer. Only prob... not as much MP as a regular healer.

Hey, can we get this moved to the Quest-Missions board and have it stickied there, like the first one? Really good info here and id hate to see it get burried.

Stalwart Shield(Tactics Manual: Fortitude) seemingly does nothing at first glance(leveling your NPC)

However, tonight, I went to Korroloka Tunnel as a 19 WHM, 1100/4400 exp into it. With Stalwart Shield NPC, 50%/1000EXP ring, and Miratete's Memoirs, I left at 2209/4600 on level 20. Getting a couple Chain 1's in the process. I discovered exactly what Stalwart Shield does, and this is it.

It can cure itself. It's a Paladin. It will not buff, however. It will not cure you. But it does cure itself. It also has pretty insane MP regeneration. It can toss off 5 or 6 Cure IIs before running out of MP, and only takes that many ticks to get back to full MP. It's HP regeneration is also moderately high. I "soloed" tough worms and bats fairly easily.

I also discovered that the bond-strengthening quests not only increase the amount of fights your NPC can participate, but also the maximum amount of time they stick around. Basic NPCs go 15 fights or 1 hour. At the end of all the quests, my NPC stuck around for 1:15. thats +5 minutes everytime you increase bonds.

Hrm, that's cool, But what about number of mobs killed, did you notice any increase in that as well? Or just time spent out with the npc?

I leveled my npc twice yesterday, from 46 to 48 in kuftal skilling up club.

I've already done the second bond strengthening quest when she was 46, and last night I got her 4th weapon upgrade from Luto after coming back from skilling up.

Next, genkai here we come!

Added: Also, noticed she had another hat option to choose from, and I got Trader's Chapeu(sp?), Sweet!

I'm kinda glad you bumped this. Currently im having a problem, with not getting the genkai quest to activate, my npc *should* have enough experience to trigger the quest, she keeps saying her next level is very soon.

I've done the quest in windhurst with the artist chick. I'm not really sure why I haven't gotten the genkai triggered yet. I should have more than enough npc affinity. I'm going take her out for a leveling session as soon as I get on tonight and hope that when I finish, the quest will trigger when I get back to Jueno. I really just dont know why it isnt triggered yet.

My friend Celvantes, got his genkia quest while his npc was early into lvl 50 so it seems that there isnt really a exp requirement they have to reach. Though if that's the case, it's based of npc affinity, and that's what bugs me. I've had enough affinity to do several of the quests that others havent gotten till later, so I'm wondering why this damn thing isnt going off. If you can't tell it has me quite fustrated. ><

Every case of this I've heard previously was pretty much solved by another NPC summon or two. Give it a few more summons, and if still no dice, let me know.

. . .

Make sure you arent actually WEARING your Signal Pearl when you talk to Luto. It may be 100% coincidence, but i had trouble activating the Genkai Quest, 3rd or Fourth Weapon Upgrade and something else...however, i noticed after-the-fact that when i tried to activate these quests, i was still wearing my Signal Pearl from my last NPC EXP session, and was given the quests only after i took my Signal Pearl off (but still had it in my inventory).
like i said, perhaps its mere coincidence, but its worth a try i suppose.

Hrm..? I thought I read that your NPC is the one that gives you the genkai quest when you talk to her under the "about quests" option. Luto seems to be for storyline quests (bond quests) and weapon changes, so far anyway.

Did I read this wrong somehow? *goes to recheck*

Yes, you get the Genkai quest from Luto. the only quest you get from your NPC is the Emptiness Quest which earns you a Tactics Pearl, questable once per Conquest Tally.

You get the first Genkai quest from the fat guy in Selbina though, not Luto.

D'oh!

I though I just had to go to Selbina as part of the quest, didn't realize you actually activate it there. -.-;

Gah. Time to take a trip to Selbina.

Problem solved. ^^;

This may Just be me But yesterday I was camping the Dainslif Sword NM in Quicksand Caves and me and my 5 other LS mates where havein a good time Skilling up and waiting for the thing to pop. A 7th LS member was bored so he came to help camp & skill up so I droped from the party I was in and invited him then formed an alliance.

After the alliance was formed i thought "hmm.. Since im not in a 6 man party anymore I'll try to summon my NPC" and then equiped my Signal Pearl and used it. It didnt activate ;_; then i thought mabye i moved and interupted the activation. So i tryed it agian. low and behold the Pearl Activated and Raka appeared before me :D

I summoned her before the 7th member zoned into Quicksand caves and was worred about her despawning when he zoned, but when the 7th member Zoned Raka Didnt Disapear and i was like O_o Sweetness!!

I dont know if it was some kinda flook or something but I got her to spawn in a alliance of more than 6 people :D how cool is that. She did do decent damage for her level at 52 agiants Anticans that wher Decent Challenges to me as a lev70 PLD. And before the night was over she ended up leveling to 53
So at the end of the night we ended up Killing The NM but no Dainslif, I got a whole bunch of skill ups and Raka Leveld. just thought id share that

Skill up parties are the best way to level NPCs, at least in my opinion

Oh and on a side note. I tried this the other day using my tactics pearl in a diffrent skill up party. and Raka appeard but then immidatly despawned

We did the same thing the other night when we were leveling NPC's ..
2 three man pt's all with npc's. Ended up being two full parties that way.
I hope SE doesn't fix this... or deduct from the NPC's exp. By the way I was able to trade the hydro axe to the NPC quest giver..
Does anyone have any idea what we can trade to our npc's? I see the option in the menu, along with talk..
I'm glad that clicking on our tagalongs doesn't dismiss them.

Ahhh, okay. I see. You guys summoned and then allianced/had the max players zone in. If you did it while allianced/had max players in, your NPC would've left. So nice little way to avoid that. You can't trade anything to NPCS btw, you were always able to open the trade window with them by using the main menu, but they won't accept anything.

By the way, I have a theory in regards to NPC EXP. While they do gain exp independant of you, if they're partied with other players and their NPCs, they get the Party exp cut+bonus. So if you're fighting mobs that just give them 200 exp a kill, and invite others along, this number drops.

It's the only way I can understand why my NPC was higher level in fewer calls that Cythes for a while. I've spent a vast majority of my time solo-leveling, while he's spent the majority of his time duo-leveling.

So if you can level solo, it's probably a better option.

I summoned while the allaince had 5 people in it and when it went up to 7-8 she still stayed for the 20 kills.

Requesting this to be moved to the Quests section and stickied if that's alright. Help would be appreciated. This thread is full of excellent info post update. Thanks. :D
