So I'm doing some farming in Qulun Dome, trying to get a Water 4 scroll for my Red Mage. It's a small farming area, with about 7 Quadav pops (not including 2 NMs), 2 of which drop the scroll I need. Also it has limited access, you have to drop down into the area and only exit is back outside, then a 5 minute run back in.

Everything is going well, I'm killing all Quadavs (a must since they link and it being a small area), I even have in my /seacom "farming Water IV <short time>" to let people know what i'm doing down there. I try to do that as a courtesy to others so they know, and if they want to team up, I'm usually open to working together.

So while fighting a Quadav, this other person shows up and as soon as a quadav pops up, he starts killing it (while I was still dealing with another Quadav), knowing that I'm right there.

So I ask him, you're not going to camp over me are you? (could I have worded better.... yes... I should have said "GTFO you a-hole, you see I'm f-ing farming here jackass") and he responds "looks like it". And then tries validating it by saying he didn't want to pay whatever the price was.

Since I knew it was going to be contentious, I just let him know how "classy" he was raiding an area that someone was farming in and I left I added he/she/shim to my /blist.

It's people like this guy that make casual players not want to play MMO's. No friggin comprehension dignity, etiquette, or class. So avoid Daineko, add him the the Piece of Crap Club, whatever, etc...

There, I feel better now.

So... you're upset because someone countercamped you in order to farm something?

Really?

What, can I reserve farming areas now?

Why wasn't I informed of this?!?!

You get overcamped at an XP party, maybe, maybe you have something to bitch about. This is just ridiculous.

I want to reserve Fafnir/Nidhogg for the next 3 years because I want to farm all my friends E bodys because it is too hard to get in Einherjar. Kthxbai

Damn right I am. Maybe i expect too much, but if i see someone killing mobs with a /seacom up saying "I'm farming", common courtesy dictates that I'll let them be and do something else.

You're expecting too much. You expecting, quite frankly, to monopolize a source of potential profit simply because you were there first and put a comment up. That's never flown in any MMO, not even this one. As Jyak said, it's akin to going to Nidhogg, putting up a search comment saying that you're farming an E-body, and getting upset when people show up to countercamp you.

Heheh... I'm not disagreeing with you, but stop by the Dynamis Scheduling forum for a bit and see exactly how many people are expecting EXACTLY this.

People really expect to be able to claim a good farming area with a /seacom? Man up and go somewhere else if the competition really bothers you. The scroll's 150k and there's one in the AH right now. You can make that much in a couple hours pretty easily.

There are a variety of patently obvious differences between the two situations, as you're well aware. For starters, in a farming area, you can have more than one group present at a time, something which is impossible in Dynamis. There is no fee associated with entering a farming area. There are no entry requirements. There is no progression. Farming is not a group activity requiring coordinating player times, frequently across multiple time zones.

Most fucking importantly, there is no pre-existing set of community standards regarding the use of farming areas. Indeed, in my experience, the only position popularly espoused is the one that I espoused earlier. Whereas Quetz had a perfectly functional system for fair distribution of Dynamis zones, with the rare renegades who went against it, prior to a certain server merge.

Easy there tiger. I was referring more to the new problem that is arising in that there is (and will continue to be) significantly more competition being presented for zones, such that there are more people wanting to do something than the game can support. And yet, people still expect everyone to play fair. But that is a topic for any one of the myriad of other threads, and I probably shouldn't have brought it up here.

You went trolling, and got a response. It may not have been the response you wanted, but that's life.

And yes, there are, and have been, other topics addressing this issue. And yes, people could easily extend the current system a while longer, and be civil about it. But all of the things that I said still apply, even when Dynamis gets down to a single-party activity.

I honestly wasn't intentionally trying to troll, though in retrospect I guess I did anyway. Just trying to point out that not everything is always so black and white. And while I'll admit that Dynamis is different from normal farming, the core concept of "forced competition causing people to not play fair" applies in both cases. People who cry at the top of their lungs for opposing ideals in two different cases are being just a little bit hypocritical.

The core concept of "killing to get what you want" applies to murder for hire, and killing livestock, and that doesn't make meat-eaters who are against murder into hypocrites.

You're overreaching.

Community standards dictate how we respond to given behavior. This community had a wonderful set of standards in place for dealing with Dynamis that it applied to no other activities. Just Dynamis, a recognition of the special status that particular endgame activity enjoyed.

In this case, arguably, the guy who shows up and throws up a seacom to say "Hey, I'm farming here, keep away" is the one not being fair, since he made no attempt to schedule this activity with anyone else in advance, which is the fundamental principle of scheduling.

And if he had tried to schedule it? He would have been laughed off the forums. Putting up a seacom probably is the closest approximation for that type of thing. But regardless....

I'm not trying to downplay the advantages of QCDN's Dynamis system. In it's day, it was awesome, and I still wish Midgard had had a similar system. I'm just saying, and Miros himself and many others have agreed with me, that as competition increases, actually expecting everyone to still try to schedule for the event is going to eventually become ludicrous. Yet there are still people that will insist to their dying breath that trying to "book" Dynamis zones is the best method, regardless of how incredibly competitive the system gets due to substantially more people trying to do the event than the game can support. It is those people to which I refer.

Oh, it's true that in a few months, the concept of Dynamis scheduling may well be moot, since once the level cap gets raised high enough, there will be no way to control the sheer number of self-entitled pricks who will be able to scrape up 500k for a glass and go grab a zone with 5 of their friends.

However, that day is not yet here, and even once it gets here, it's still true that scheduling the zones will remain the fairest way of apportioning them out. It will just be unrealistic in the face of the opposition from people who'd rather take what they want, when they can.

Will you shut the fuck up about Dynamis.

OP, you're a dumbass. You don't own a group of mobs or Nms just because you put it up in your seacom. Deal with it and stop being a retard.

Farming, EXP Parties, and Dynamis are different things, agreed. But the concept of someone going into a specified area where another person(s) either have already setup as a "camp" or have made the intention to setup as a zone as a specified time via the Dynamis Scheduling is the same. It's poor gamer etiqutte. So Daineko is on my /blist along with 23 people from NewDynamix. I classify them the same. I friggin hate talking about Dynamis too, who started this? Oh Divinius...

Why do threads keep turning into Dynamis BS, sheesh.

/seacom does nothing for farming. It hardly does anything for EXP camping. I did the same thing (farm for the scroll) and had someone camp against me. Instead of going "are you going to camp against me?" I asked if he wanted to team up because it'll probably be faster that way. We teamed up, both got the scroll, everyone was happy.

Just claim faster, princess.

dude are you serious right now??? just because you have 'im farming' in your seacom doesnt mean anything...what if im a lvl 80 rdm in need of water 4 too? and here i am on my mery way to farm water 4... you're saying i cant because you're there.. that's really dumb.. raes already hit every point possible in this thread. i know you were probably annoyed which i am sure anyone would be but you cant get mad. thats really silly to blist someone who is doing the same thing as you but you're being a baby about it.. and like raes said dynamis is totally different.. but ya... no need to flame the guy.. he did absolutely nothing wrong... it just pissed you off....
