Anyone pick this up yet? I'm grabbing it after work today. I was going to pick it up at lunch and then call in sick for the rest of the day, but there is a doodle of a PlayStation 3 controller with smiley-face analog sticks on the calendar in my office, and I don't think my boss will believe me that I can't come back to work.

(Sorry if there is already a thread about this game. I didn't see one when I glanced at the 'general gaming' page, and I'm too lazy to use the search function.)

I'm planning to pick it up after work, along with Saint's Row 2. I've been looking forward to this title for a long time. All the trailers and downloaded comics... they've got me hyped for it. The reviews have been positive, too.

I played it about 2 months ago when i went to the vendor show in las vegas. This game is totally awesome. The first real survival horror game in a pretty long while (RE:4 was good but there was no survival or horror in it). If anyone preordered the game at a Gamecrazy, you get employee discount on the game. Not sure what Gamestop is giving. Have to wait for Lan to post.

Reserve Dead Space and receive the Exclusive Level Scorpion Rig – the strongest in the game. It offers increased toughness and inventory slots above what lower level suits provide. Hold off the Necromorph onslaught for longer, and hold more items and weapons. While supplies last. Online / In-store Pickup Customers: Codes to unlock the Scorpion Rig will be emailed to you. Please provide a valid email address during checkout.
Codes will be emailed approximately one week prior to launch date.

I am kind of pumped for this title. I don't know if I will be picking it up anytime soon though. My backlog keeps staring at me.

Never buyin' another item, ever, ever, at Gamestop again. The signs say 10/14/08, the pre-order box says 10/14/08, the phone call said "it's here", the employees say, "Oh, it shipped today, it's not out until tomorrow" pisses me off. I was all kinds of excited about today.

Same thing happened to me with socom. They can go fuck themselves for all i care.

As for this I might rent it, although I'm not that big into horror games.

That just happened to me. I wanted to strangle her.

I'm going to be so much less excited tomorrow, it sucks.

Just pull your pre-order and hit up Best-Buy or Wal-Mart.

This game has already blown away my extremely high expectations. I don't know what to think of EA anymore. There is not a single thing wrong with this game, so far.

It's kinda like if Doom III and Bioshock had a baby.

It's pretty good so far. I think it is a little overboard with all the limb-removing. Shit, just walking over a corpse will take out an arm and a leg.

If I put nodes into my suit and then upgrade, will I lose those nodes or do they carry over?

I don't get the Bioshock reference but a lot of people say that. I prefer to think of it as Doom III, without the suck, and Resident Evil 4 mix.

Yeah, once you use a node, for any reason be it door or upgrade, you loose it. It's like a talent point, but you can't reset them, ever.

I guess it's just all the audio logs you find, it reminds me of finding the recordings in Bioshock. The modules kind of made me think Bioshock as well. I don't know, it just feels Bioshock-y.

Good so far though. I can't wait to get home from work today so I can continue.

I finally got my grubby little mitts on it last night. I was only able to play about 30 minutes, but it's certainly a creepy game... easily the spookiest thing I've played since the original Silent Hill. Hopefully I'll get to spend some quality time with it this evening.

I'm a little more than halfway through it now, and this game is awesome. I feel nervous walking through dark hallways in the game. I am genuinely creeped out by everything.

Spoiler in case you aren't past chapter 7.

Spoiler:

The Food Storage Room boss fight was awesome. Catching and throwing those pod things back at him was so sweet.

I hated the asteroid shooting part, though. I thought the "leap from cover to cover or get shredded by asteroids" part was sweet, but the shooting thing afterward was annoying. It took me at least six tries.

Do your nodes carry over into your next play-through? If not I can't imagine how you are supposed to upgrade the majority of your shit.

Lastly, the Force Gun is amazing.

So yeah. I am a Gears of War lover. A Resistance lover. And what not... (MGS4 is movie of the year, dont worry fanboys of the game)

I see this as GOTY 08'. From almost no where... Sure it was getting a little love but with all the blockbusters this year being sequals.. This must be placed among the top games. Great atmosphere, great sounds, great visuals, and great gameplay, and for a sci-fi person the story is pretty sweet also. Reminds me of the movie Sunshine. I am completely shocked by the quality of this game from Ea..

I'd only go ahead and give it GOTY if it was free-roamish, like the Resident Evil series before 4. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hell out of this game, but it's definitely a child among men of a true survival horror games, game-play wise. I understand wantin' to make games more casual and easier for the block-heads but I'm really gettin' sick of it. I liked that back then, when the RE series was still fresh along with Parasite Eve, and Silent Hill, to name a few, the difficulty wasn't all in the difficulty setting. It was findin' X item and findin' out what to do with it, and where. I hate bein' confined in these types of games, bein' shown what to do so bluntly, and bein' able to take a single glance at a "puzzle" and knowin' 100% how to handle it. Sure it's kind of creepy, yes it has a good story, but it's simply good because expectations, at least for me, are so bottom of the barrel with games now-a-days.

One other factor goes into makin' this game good for me and that's, that it reminds me of Carrier. Jaleco really had a gem there.

I was also shocked at EA Osy. I know they dedicated a lot of resources to betterin' themselves with this title but I didn't expect it to work out this well, bein' EA and all. I figured they were just blowin' smoke up our asses.

My only major complaint that the game is far too linear. You pretty much follow the glowing arrow on your map to each objective, fighting baddies on the way. Oh, getting from point a to point b is fucking scary (FUCK YOU VACUUM AND YOUR NO SOUND) and when you're going through each area for the first time the game is good at keeping you guessing as to what's going to happen, but as soon as you die and do the section again, its no longer even close to as scary.
You know that when you step past X spot, a dude busts out of the wall and claws at your face. Though there were a few moments when I had to laugh at the game for how good it was at distracting me.

Runs Forward, dude busts out the wall, munches on my torso, respawn.
Runs forward, dodges the dude who busts out of the wall, severs limbs with Cutter, gets raped from behind by other dude who snuck out of the floor behind me. Respawn
Runs forward, dodges dude who busts out of the wall, severs limbs with cutter, dodges dude who tried sneaking out of the floor again, severs more limbs, gets dismembered by dude who came around the corner I was headed towards when Dude busted out of the wall. Swear at game, Respawn.

Weapons: I love them. They all have uses, and not just "Only use this gun for this baddie type, because it sucks otherwise. They can pretty much all be used for each enemy type, and the Cutter is probably the best of them all even though the Line Gun is fun for slicing dudes in half.

Second thing that's not really a complaint or a compliment is the fact that Issac never talks. I don't have an issue with it, but my friend said it annoyed her a little. My responce was that every time I heard them say "Issac" I replaced it with "Dr. Freeman." And its obvious that the developers paid attention to Half Life, because the dialog is pretty decent at keeping it from being a problem.

Unfortunatly they didn't pay enough attention to Half-Life, which leads me to my only other real complaint. We. Need. A. Crowbar. Its a survival horror game, where conserving ammo is a must. Yet the melee attack sucks at doing anything but maybe knocking them back for more than a second, before they're back to shredding your face on a cheese grater. A warning to everyone playing the game, when you run out of ammo, you're better off just standing still and dying because that'll happen anyways.

Now, my biggest praise for the game (Other than reminding me that not being able to hear things is not a good thing) is that there's no hud that shows radar, or health, or anything. Your ammo is a little hologram on your gun that's only visible when you're aiming, your health is a guage on the back of your suit, and the inventory screens are holograms that pop up in front of your character, and he actually LOOKS at it, rather than staring dumbly off into space while you browse your inventory.

Also, this game makes me doubt that EA actually made it. I mean, its a good game, but there's an EA sticker on the box. How could that be true?

If haddn't already saved my Game Of The Year for LittleBigPlanet, I'd probably give it to this. Great game, and hard mode really is hard o.o

EA did say they were trying to let the developers have their time to develop and fix and make things great :D if this is an example of them doing that, huzzah for their change of business practice! :D
