Debating on a new phone

I think the problem is that they don't even offer an unlimited plan. If the lower plan would workout for you then great, have at it. They should offer the 15$ plan, like a 22$ plan for the 2GB and the 30$ for unlimited. Isn't being able to watch youtube on the go, stream music and using every other one of the thousands of aps that stream data the main selling points for phones like an iphone, or any smartphone for that matter save for maybe blackberry's (and even they have the blackberry app world now)? I just think its kind of silly to have a phone like an Iphone and be halfway through the month thinking 'Oh shit, I cant use pandora to listen to music anymore or im gonna get buttfucked by overage charges.'

Shit, they could even make the unlimited plan 40 bucks a month, but at least people would have a choice then.
According to their research, 98% of smartphone users don't use more than 2GB per month. If you're in that 2%(and I doubt most people who say they are actually are) then if you sign up before the 24th, you'll get grandfathered in to having unlimited data. Again, 2GB is a tremendous amount of data to stream to the phone; you pretty much have to try to hit that cap.

You really shouldn't need to stream music when you can put 8-32GB of music on your phone.

Depends, I know of people who have 120GBs of music they use.

Also the purpose of things like Pandora Radio and Lastfm etc is to find music you don't know of that is based on your similar tastes. How do I put music that I may like onto my phone when I haven't heard it yet? If you find a way tell me please.

Service by providers can vary by area. When I was living in Baton Rouge, AT&T was tops. Very good service and never complained. When I moved back to Missouri, they sucked eggs. Verizon has the best coverage and the time to renew my plan with AT&T drew closer, I became wary. It was neat to have 3G coverage in my computer room, but when I walked to the kitchen, it went to the extended network.

My girlfriend was on Verizon and when my term with AT&T came to an end, I switched. We are currently looking at new phones, but we aren't eligible for an upgrade until January. Hell, by then the iPhone may be available on Verizon (if the rumors are true). However, we are looking at the HTC Incredible right now as an alternative. SHE wants the iPhone, I could care less. iPhones are nice, don't get me wrong, but I didn't take Jobs' kool-aid when it came out (was still with AT&T at the time). Droid phones look good and unless something "better" comes along, I'll be picking up an Incredible.

Now if I could just convince my work to switch from AT&T...

Or they stream because they don't have access to the music. I streamed Puls radio because there are no radio stations where I live that play any type of trance/techno music, and to here new stuff I wouldn't even know to buy/download.

Part of me feels that the 98% bit is a little stretched as well. All it says is 'Currently, 98 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 2 GB of data a month on average.' I'd be a little more believing if it was worded 'Currently 98% of Unlimited Data plan customers use less than 2GB of month.' It was only like, last November when ATT started requiring smartphones to have Data on them. Shit I used to have a Blackjack 2 which is most def a smartphone without data on it. And don't get me wrong, I'm sure alot of people don't use over 2GB, I've used a total of 150 mb in the past 2 months w/ my phone. But I also have a tiny screen and don't stream anything anymore. I could easily see myself going over 2gb if I had an iphone though, and shit I have gone WELL over 2gbs in the past. To me it sounds like a rationalization to start charging people who actually use the phone for what it was intended to do.

Personally, I'm just weary of any time there are overage charges. Selling cell phones for the last 2 years I've had plenty of customers who went over the 5 gb cap with their broadband cards and got raped with overages. And now sure, using the internet on your home PC and cell phone is different, but every new phone that comes out is getting more and more advanced. Also realize the 2gb plans are the same for the ipad. And that if you decide to pay the extra 20 bucks a month to tether your phone, which more people are interested in than you might think, you have to share the 2gb between the phone and tethering, which is even more rape and even easier to go over the 2gb then.

Again, my problem with the price plan change is that they don't even offer an unlimited plan. If the 2% mark is accurate, thats still hundreds of thousands of people that use more than 2gb a month. And again, I have a feeling that number isn't exactly accurate considering how much the cell phone companies fudge statistics about their network.

Thats just my 2 cents from the opinions I've built up working with cell phones for the past 2 years. I will agree with you though that the OP needs to check his coverage. My previous recommendations were considering all things were equal with coverage, considering they should be in pretty much every major city. But if you have dick for Sprint coverage then obviously don't go with an Evo. Thats the beautiful thing about a 30 day trial though (risk free with sprint), you can find out if the coverage is good for you. Because believe it or not the coverage maps aren't always the most accurate. Its a good starting point for sure though.

Idk, I only have the LG Chocolate Touch cause I didn't see myself using a ton of aps etc. My husband does that with his droid, so I pay for the 25 mb data plan at verizon and I basically use my browser and check email with my phone lol, don't need more than that, and I barely even touch 25 mb/month doing that.

idk i have an iphone and atm i get no where near 2 gigs a month but thats because of my situation... when im at work and streaming radio to it.. im on wifi when im at home and downloading apps and stuff.. im on wifi. I bet i actually use far more than 2 gigs a month but... because wifi doesnt count i get no where near it. Hiowever i am keeping my unlimited plan because if i drop it i cant get it back and if i change jobs i most likely wont have a boss that doesnt realize i helped setup the network and saved the password on my phone.

Oh and since this is a thread anyways to anyone who has an iphone what are your feelings on jailbreaking... because lately i have been strongly wanting to do it but really having trouble finding trustworthy input from either side of the fence.

Yeah, that's the other side of it, you'd have to be streaming 2GB while not near a WIFI spot, so it's even less likely to actually use that amount.

I've jailbroken my iphone a few times, but I never found anything worth keeping it jailbroken, so I always reverted it back to vanilla.

My iPhone is jailbroken. Being able to change the dock and icon style to whatever you could pretty much want is nice. Also almost any app you could want for free is nice too. Although usually they are early early versions of the app, it is still really nice. Also being able to SSH to my phone from my computer or visa-versa is ballin' too. Grabbing school files or just whatever I need. However, if you do decide jailbreak after your warranty is up, because it does void it.

On the otherside, having someone elses work on your phone leaves you vulnerable to things such as virus' or such other things..
