If you can read this message it means that you have put forth interest in helping out with ideas and testing of the new version of QCDN for FFXIV. I'd like for this to be the base forum for operations for the development of the future. I will happily share links to be reviewed and take everything said here extremely seriously as we move forward.

One of my main goals in moving forward is to distance myself from the stigma of QCDN as we go forward. As such, I am right now waiting on approval for possibly a new url which will link both these forums and the new XIV forums through a new portal. I'd love to hear ideas and anything else you can offer.

A helpful link to look up different mods for vBulletin is www.vbulletin.org. There can be some nice things we could add to the XIV forums when it gets up. I am hoping to essentially start the XIV forums fresh with all users at 0 posts/0 reputation/0 infractions and all banned users unbanned.

As more surfaces I will be sure to share it if it's not a secret hush hush thing so until then, have fun brainstorming if you'd like! :D

I want to be able to help with the coming of 14, but I guess that means i am going to have to play the game.... which I had previously decided I wasn't going to do but we will see how that works out in a few months.

I really like the idea of the unbanning of people. We can take rl money bets on how long certain people will stay unbanned. We'd make a bundle (Haha. I kid.) But I'm pretty excited about the idea of new forums for xiv. Hopefully Reeve will give you the go ahead.

Just to post so you know I'm actually paying attention to this thread, the reset of infractions and unbanning is fair. Not so much the reset of posts and reputation. I think the members who have been around for a while should have something to show for it other than a "Join Date:"

I think it should be the way too since it's not exactly a fresh start.

I like the idea of the portal though. Technically speaking, when you say "portal" Miros, it just means that people will have to choose between XI and XIV sub-forums when they're gonna access the main forum webpage (either qcdn or the unspoken url link)?

I thought he meant it would be a completely different website. There would still be qcdn, but there would also be this new site with completely different forums. The reputation wouldn't change here... it would just start at 0 there. At least I assumed that's how it would work.

I think he meant having the 2 websites co-existing. I may be wrong though, it's freaking 6 AM here lol.

Orinna wins! Basically what would happen is we'd have a portal page which will have a link to the FFXI forums (http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi) and a link to the FFXIV forums (http://www.qcdn.org/ffxiv or http://www.newservername.com or .org or whatever). The FFXI forums are most likely going to be trimmed down significantly to only have basic FFXI information. The forums for gaming/off topic would link to the FFXIV forums since most people will be using those anyways. The database/forums for FFXIV will be fresh and new which means rep and posts will have to be 0. What I'm trying to find out if possible is to see if we can at least move over the database with usernames/passwords so we can at least keep those in tact.

Sounds reasonable enough, still a little iffy about bring banned members back. I disliked a lot of those who got banned so it's probably just me, I know you'll end up bringing them back anyway ;)

Er, I didn't read it like that I guess but I kinda wouldn't want a whole new site. I thought we'd have two domain names for the same site (QCDN and anothernamehere). I would rather just keep this site and just trim down the FFXI forums and expand the FFXIV forums. I don't know if I'm the only one thinking a whole other forum would be too much. Wouldn't that also but a little more work on the mods? Unless you're not going to care about modding the FFXI forums anymore and just the FFXIV will be modded. Oh, and why trim down the FFXI ones if they are going to be separate? I was all for them being trimmed but now I don't see the point of it if they aren't going to be with the FFXIV ones. If you don't want to have the FFXI forums shown, can we have like a user group that people have to be in to see the FFXI ones?

I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too much into this lol.

again... what he said, I don't really like the idea of making a whole new forum mainly because there are some members here who aren't going to be giving FFXIV a try for one reason or another (I myself won't be trying it because my computers can't handle it AND because SE decided to dick around with me one to many times), and if the forums are separated, iono it just seems like a fair few people will get left out.

I can tell you that the majority of them would be on a tight leash anyways. If they started up a lot of crap it would be no problem re-banning them.

The FFXI forums will be trimmed because our ultimate goal is to have the majority of people using the XIV forums since the chances that people will still be playing FFXI are severely slim. By trimmed, I mainly mean taking out the Gaming, off topic and other certain forums (like Dynamis Scheduling since it'll be moot soon anyways). One of the reasons for having a new forum is to get rid of the stigma that QCDN has, as well as (hopefully) making a new url to associate with the server of choice. Take for example, if we happen to use the server Sephiroth as the new home, then it would make sense to have the new url be something like http://www.sdn.com or .org or whatever works.

As for your suggestion with the usergroup privelages for FFXI, there's always been the issue that people don't easily see them which is one of the reasons why the WoW forums went down so quickly.

But you, JP and DW are all retired, so chances are you'd visit the forum that had the off topic and chatbox functions right? The XI forums are not going to have many places like the XIV ones will have.

Chances are, if the XIV forums are separate from the XI forums and the off-topic boards are moved, the XI forums will barely get used at all. A lot of people here already have separate accounts on BG/Alla/KI, and with the XI forums almost dead already, they'll probably take any actual game discussion elsewhere.
I'd say just consolidate all XI material into one board on the XIV forums.

If that were to happen we'd just really have to trim down the XI sections. If they were brought over to a new XIV board, which forums should stay?

I think QCDN should stay and if there's a way to change the domain name, then we should do that. I don't think people who aren't going to be playing FFXIV but want to still chat with friends and such should be forced to use another site now or if people play both FFXI and FFXIV, which some people have said they want to do, they have to keep switching sites to use them. What I think everyone wouldn't mind (to just keep all members in mind and not just myself) combine almost all the FFXI forums (ie just have General Discussion and Linkshell Discussion) and then expand all the FFXIV ones. Keep all the off-topic stuff so people who don't play can still talk about stuff not on FFXIV. I do think a whole new design for FFXIV would be nice though. As much as I like Nightshift, a new theme would make it feel fresh.

One thing I can say for sure, when the XIV site is launched the site that hosts the XIV information (whether it be XI/XIV together or a new domain) none of the old styles will be brought forward. We will be starting fresh with new styles.

Excellent... excellent!

Get rid of Job Discussion, move all threads from there into XIGD, and have subforums in there for the Auction House and Event Scheduling.
Good Times and Flameboard on XIV board can be used for both XI and XIV (if we even have a Flameboard).
