Dumb people in Campaign Battle

You can't receive the campaign tags to gain skillups. You need to fight without the tags on to skillup something.

That I didn't know. Even more reason for a mage not to melee. Knowing that the last place I would go to skill-up is CB.

Too many campaigns I spent lying face down whilst mages meleed and didn't raise/cure me. I usually just campaign where there are loads of NPC's now.
Go PLD/WHM. Although I'm fully merited and don't know your situation...I can tank, reraise myself, with shield mastery have no problems recasting Stoneskin, and if hate turns away, swap out the dmg resistant gear for melee.

Generally if I'm not raising someone in campaign on whm, it's either because:

- There's too many people and I just don't see the corpse.
- Raise recast isn't up yet after raising someone else (this will be particularly true if I'm weakened).
- They're near an aoe-happy mob and I'm fairly confident my casting will be interrupted before the raise goes off. (Not to mention they'd probably get killed by those aoes if they got up.)
- I don't have MP, and not only for aforementioned selfish exp reasons, but also for aforementioned "people bring mobs around to aoe people trying to stay out of combat" reasons, I typically don't stop and rest. So my MP pool is based on auto refresh sources, and Spirit Taker.

But yeah, in general I can see where you're coming from. Just reminding you that the street runs both ways, so healers get burned by lazy tanks and tanks get burned by lazy healers. Which is why, if you do intend to go around actually *healing* or *tanking*, to pick a specific person and team up with them, so that you have someone watching your back and making sure you don't get burned.

I think I meleed as whm in CB before but that's only because there was 1 or 2 people other than Tristam and me. I did cure others when needed and when more people came I stepped back. Tristam can be kind of squishy and I have stoneskin+rr2+blink so I can save him a little. Even if not meleeing sometimes it's hard to cure/raise everyone when you're healing your souleatering husband. No offense to anyone else but he's my top priority.

WHM 20 lol. Once RDM is 37 i'll go /RDM till then it's /NIN ftw.

Solution to partying: Don't party with people you don't fucking know.
I only party with friends, or at least people I know fairly well, and even then, we have a mutual agreement: I'm not there to main heal, but I'll at least make sure you don't end up face-down (or up if you're elvaan, but who parties with elvaans?).

Since Dhalmels are charmable, Beastmasters party with them.

Yeah, I find it very hard to swallow that you can only get 150 exp from meleeing.

coming back from break i was shocked that I got so little after update and that meleeing just doesn't seem worth it unless it's for the greater benefit of others then I have to tank.

With the speed of attacks and the ability to counter, /nin is very tough to get away with if you're trying to tank.

My normal setup is blink / SS / Veil to start with full shield block setup (with the exception of parade gorget). For magic enemies using the new IRgear x2 drastically reduces magical dmg taken.

When in trouble, both a hate solidifier and a huge cure can be had with DS Cure IV (these also help if you're not tanking and want to raise an npc's hp 1%).

But the biggest advantage is a free RR. Shit happens quite often in campaign, and being able to RR makes things much less stressful.

I often duo with Neisan, and with his refresh I'm getting 6mp/tick...add to that Chivalry restoring 450mp...and rarely do I not have enough mp to keep things up.

Also, one of the benefits of pld/nin is the ability to use flash for :ichi recasts, but in campaign flash only lasts for a second.

Yeah it's a problem, also don't really have a nice setup for /NIN. (Omega soon so i'm hoping for some Homam to come my way). I don't campaign all too often now really. Just merit my PLD via NIN etc. I campaigned a lot from 70-75 PLD as invites were slow slow. No doubt i'll be bugging you about PLD related stuff in the future anyway ;). You'll have to teach me how to tank Mighty Rarab's (I don't know what experience you have on those Buburimu beasts though).

Just 'cause someone is dead doesn't mean mages have to raise them. There are plenty of people who have passed by my dead corpse and haven't offered me a raise.

And just like Stine said, I've got my priorities. I'm not going to stop and raise people who are dead if I'm busy keeping my tank alive.

WHM's are like God. People expect you to be there for them at any place, any time. Also, they both wear white and heal you and shit.

I demand my rate up back

Yeah this is pretty much my deal. Very seldom am I mage at Campaign alone; I'm usually there with Road. When that's the case, and he and I are in party, my mp is for him. I'll throw an emergency cure at someone getting slammed or a raise where I see someone has died, but if I have 150 mp and it's raise you or keep my honey standing, I'm going to keep him standing. If others want to get their shorts in a twist over that, I say too bad. As others have said, if dying bothers you, either bring your own rr or bring your own mage. Don't expect a random someone to blow all their mp on you when they have their own party to take care of, especially when you're deciding you want to solo some shit then expect them to bail you out when you are getting slammed.

Indeed! /applaud

Sometimes one wouldn't want to party with those he knows anyway.

Besieged and Campaign did wonders to desensitize me to dying in battle. It's amazing. And I agree with every word you said.

Don't expect a random someone to blow all their mp on you when they have their own party to take care of, especially when you're deciding you want to solo some shit then expect them to bail you out when you are getting slammed.

I agree with this too, but I'd extend it to "don't expect a random cure if you're there skilling up, taking CB mobs away from the folks trying to get free exp/merits"

Indeed! /applaud

I do not think she means what you think she means.

Not sure if you meant I don't understand what she meant or if you were trying to clarify something for everyone else reading my comment but...

I applaud the above.. seems straight forward enough to me

Well damn. Not even a quote or sign of recognition for a great post. ;;

What I mean is, in my opinion it makes more sense for a white mage to prioritize things such as healing, raising, buffing and debuffing. I've seen some white mages in campaign battles who pull out their weapon, and start meleeing. The only time they cure is when the cure them self and the only time they buff is when they buff them self.

I myself have a White Mage, but I only ever campaign with it when I need to get an exp buffer. If I'm with a group while campaigning, my priority will be healing and buffing the group while I stick auto-attack on to get some extra bonus points. If I see some one is dying and I have the MP to help them, then I will help them, regardless whether I get hate or not (because you also get exp from taking damage). If I see some one dead, I will raise them. Not only because I get 20 exp from it, but also because if I was lying face down when exping on my Blue Mage I'd like to get a raise myself. I think the problem comes from the attitude in campaign, that too many people are only out for themselves.

If someone wants to look out for themselves, fine. But nothing winds me up more when you get people who never help people in campaign and bitch when they don't get help back. Unfortunately, the assumption is that everyone is under the impression that there is no point in helping people out because they aren't gonna help out in return.

Mages don't heal my PLD in Campaign so in turn I don't voke and let them get their ass handed to them.

Problem is that street runs both ways:

Can't even begin to count how many times I got hate in campaign because I was busy curing the guy getting wailed on and no one seems to have voke ready....
