Dynamis & Endgame Summoner and Samurai Gear

Your post in combination with your avatar is perfect Kaji

I agree with Davion. The Summoner's Spats aren't "useless" as the -bp ability delay is the only thing you can get. While they are still the worst piece in the set otherwise, not 1 piece of summoner relic is "useless". Head for -perp and -bp ability, Body for avatar crit hit and -perp depending on the day, Hands for -bp and the huge boost to smn magic skill, Legs for -bp ability, and Feet for enhanced attack and -bp ability. My gear setup looks like this for smn...

Head- Summoner's Horn (standing around and -bp) ---> Evoker's Horn (Ele. Siphon piece and max Summoning Magic setup)

Neck- Smn. Torque (I like smn magic skill as I find it enhances my buffs and may or may not effect accuracy not to mention the boost to ele siphon) ---> Sac. Torque (enhanced Avatar attack)

Earrings- Loq. Earring and Anti-Venom earring

Body- Yinyang Robe (obviously for -bp and refresh) ---> Summoner's Doublet (depending on day for -perp, Ele. Siphon, avatar crit hit + on bp.)

Hands- Summoner's Brcr. (being the gimp that I am, I'm Nashira Gaugesless but <3 the extra smn magic skill as well and the -bp)

Rings- Evoker's Ring (DUH) and Serket

Back- Blue Cape +1 (until Astute i'm thinkin but thats a test item for later but Ix'drg wont produce)

Waist- Hierarch Belt

Legs- Evoker's Spats +1 (accuracy and MP) ---> Summoner's Spats (-bp) then immedately back to Evoker's Spats +1

Feet- Evoker's Pigaches +1 (-perp) ---> Summoner's Pigaches (enhanced attack)

So as you can see, a Summoner can viably use every piece of his/her relic armor. Hope this helps you out ^.^

only thing I will say is, SMN doesn't really exist in endgame anymore. I haven't played my SMN in probably a year?... and we used to use it all the time. strategies, for the most part, have changed.

i agree with the bottom statement taisa, smn gets lucky since a lot of relic doesn't get used so much, conversely it's because there isn't much more gearwise diversity out there for smn in comparison to other jobs iirc.

As a mostly carreer summoner I'm sad to read everyone forgot to mention the Blood pact delay on the summoner's spats. :(

But I do agree with most people's suggestions, the 2 most valuable pieces for summoner are the hands and the body.
The feet are indeed nice for the extra attack.

totally agree with shirai

I also have to aggre with Shirai. I rarely get to use my SMN anymore except when I go play in campagain cause I think SMN rocks there. Also Summoner's Spats are a nice piece. Wish I could get mine...

seem be pretty big item on tia and khimaira. Last time was out at tia that all you see attacking her.

Most of the time my SMN is called to buffs in Dynamis or spam Nether Blast on Byakko and Kirin.

It's showing where you can make your summoner useful.
You know, we aren't only DD's. ;)

Our main feat on HNM like Tiamat, Khimaira and such is our ability to do hate free towards the player damage.
And more importantly, Avatar Blood pacts give mobs 0TP!
However in other fights and things we can be useful doing other things aside from dealing damage.

Stoneskin and/or Phalanx for the tanks or melee during Dynamis, Limbus, Einherjar and even some (H)NM fights is pretty useful.
Dream Shroud for the Black Mages.
If you have your summoning skill up a good bit above cap you can even put in a couple of other buffs like Hastega.
Also Debuffs land a lot easier with enough skill over cap and have a pretty nice duration.
Sleepga and Nightmare are good for crowd control, dispelga in situations where you lack a red mage or bard.

And don't get me started on healing Ruby II <3

There's really a lot summoner can do, albeit situational.

SMN is actually very good dmg for Sarameya. We only had one there this past weekend, but the hate free dmg without having to sit in AoE range was pretty invaluable. We'll be using as close to a smn cannon as possible on our next round. But I agree, even with this it's not a big portion of endgame.

I use Summoner more than any other job I have. It does high spike damage without the hate of other damage dealers provide. 1104 pred claws to Fafnir, 987 spinning dive to Khimeria, 1004 predator claws to JoL, 1006 spinning dive to Kirin... the list goes on. As long as the summoner knows where to be at the right times and puts in the time, they can become as valuable as any other job there. Only problem is that most of the gear is ra/ex and none of the people want to spend the time to get the gear out there. Most people's minds are so focused on the fact that smn is a gimp healer and overlook the benefits of not only dmg, but buffs as well.

good post except no one that does endgame considers SMN a healer.

>.> I guess Spring Water and such is semi beneficial then... but mostly RDMs pick up the slack.

It's a nice Blood pact as it cures a lot of ailments, however it's too slow for those situations where you need to act fast ; ;
