Hi, I'm a Lv 48 Elvaan RDM on my way to Lv 51. (I also just returned to FFXI)

I've read a few guides concerning Lv 51 Staves, and I want to know your own opinion:

1) Which Staff/wand I should equip when casting a certain Debuff (Paralyze, Dia, Silence).

2) Which Staves, or even wands, are worth buying.

3) Helpful advice/tips I should know.

4) Possible links to some good guides and/or information.

I think race is an important part in playing a job, and I want to know how to keep the balance. I'd just like to hear your humble opinion, Thx! :)

buy them all

Dark Staff for Sleep/Drain/Aspir/Bio/Dispel/"/heal"
Light for Dia/curing
ice for paralyze
earth for slow
wind for gravity/silence

And all water/thunder/earth/wind/ice/fire for elemental debuffs and nukes if you so chose to cast them.

Check the element of the spell and use the corresponding staff. For example paralyze is ice so use ice staff.

Ice is also bind.... took me awhile to figure that one out. >.<

As far as wands go, I don't use them, but thats cause I have all the staffs.

OK, buying them all is gonna be expensive.

But is what you're saying is, 'forget the wands and just use Staves'?

That is what I personally am saying. But if you can't get them all now you could probably pick up a wand with some INT for MBing.

I haven't equipped a wand since before 51.

i personally use wands because i have lots of +int/mnd gear, so the elemental staves are not needed for enfeebles. however, there are 3 staves that you MUST get: light, dark, and ice. light is for curing, dark is for resting and drain, aspir, ect., and ice is to make your elemental magic really pack a punch.

I hardly use staves even though I got them all. I mostly use my dark one for healing, and light one if I have to be main healer in a pty.

Otherwise I get the latest wand I could get, and get other int gear and nuke and enfeeble, and of course, refresh, and do just fine. Maybe my next pty though I should take all my staves with me, macro them, and see if there's any difference.

I've done fine up until 70 rdm though with wands.

Equip change is your friend! Here is my macro set up

Code:
/equip main "Ice Staff"
/equip body "Warlock's Tabard"
/equip ring1 "Sapphire Ring"
/equip ring2 "Sapphire Ring"
/equip hands "Wise gloves"
/ma "Paralyze" <t>

Yupyup. That's how most of your macros will go. I've had all the staves since about 58, so gogo and get them all.

Actually since noone has actually mentioned it, when you're talking enfeebles...

Staves have a large effect on accuracy, but no effect on strength.
Wands have a small effect on Accuracy, but a significant effect on strength.

So, if you're having no trouble landing a particular enfeeble your better off boosting MND or INT, including using a wand.

If you're having trouble landing an enfeeble though you're always going to be better off with an elemental staff and boosting Enfeebling Skill.

*cough* and why do you have them all ;)

I agree it might be alil price but they all are deffinatly worth it. usuable for many jobs and circumstances.

It is right doesn't imporove potency for enfebbles just acc but it improves potency for elemental magic spells (blizzard ect) it also helps smns with bloodpact and avatar stuff.

I have and use all except fire and water. They don't cost much and help on enfeebs/nukes. Most used for me in a exp pt are dark, light, ice and wind. Base mnd is 67 +22 or so. I have enough mnd/int gear, so I stopped using staff's at lvl 51.

Blowy hit the nail on the head. Using more MND gear on your Paralyze will make it more powerful. If you're not having trouble sticking Paralyze, use a wand. Same goes for most debuffs. I personally use all staves and a wand as well, which I use situationally.

Yes, but that's mainly for higher lvls. At 51, monsters will start resisting your more as you're fighting for the most part IT enemys.

At 70+ you mostly fight VT and some IT, and you also have better gear available for you, and thus you can use wands instead.

Personally I like ot use staves, and then replace my warlock's tabard with errant body for +10 MND/INT, but that's just me.

Omg, staves are NOT that bad in price anymore. You can buy all 8 NQs for like 450k. 450k!!! Hell, my first Ice staff was 400k! and that was back when leaping boots were 200k!

I remember that time, lol >.< Although I was quite happy at the time to get my Enfeebling Torque for 350k XD

OK, I'm starting to get now.
I bought five of the staves already and they were cheaper than I thought.

I remember I bought my drk and earth staff for like 200k each before my break.

The staves are at about 20-30k each now! >.>

But quick question: When doing a MB with nukes, is it better to use the staff equivalent to the element of the spell; or is it better the use an Ice Staff?
