English class?

In the case of that particular sentence it is correct to write it either way. The commas basically just change how you would read the sentence out loud. Spelling pause on a forum pause.

If you can't use proper punctuation and capitalizations and can't make a decent attempt at spelling and grammar, you should be shot and deleted from the internet.

Uber you're grammer suks. Seriously, I am kidding with you. I use to be so good with grammar with English. Then I started learning German and my English skills went down the tube because I was learning something new. Then over a period of time the focus of English would change over to something different while in German I would still be learning grammar.

For some reason my school district likes to focus on literacy rather than writing. As a majority of people that read this can tell I kind of suck at writing, but can put my opinion down onto this form of paper that is placed for the world to read and comment on. There is one, two if you wish to count Journalism, English class that is credited for graduation now. The thing with this class is that it is an advanced/honors class that only B average English student can get into. The rest of the classes are standard English classes with maybe one paper to write as a Senior. Junior year I believe I wrote two papers one over The Scarlet Letter and one over the author of a book we chose to read independently. The "paper" I had to do for Huck Finn was a slide show and just had to make an outline so that really isn't a paper of Junior year. The rest was just reading short stories then doing small related work sheets to the stories or making an illustration. So unless it is just my school I think some education standards are shifting.

As for flaming people just for poor grammar just kind of laughable. I mean with people like Blazn, Yusuke (even though Yusuke did his on purpose), and to a certain extent Hellfire yes I could understand going to your limits and just snap because you do not know what the fuck they are talking about. Go ahead flame on I suppose. Otherwise I'm with you Yuber.

Romperstomper does raise a valid point. In the United States, at the secondary level of education we should probably be dividing English into two distinct classes: literature and composition. This is how it's done at the college level so there is absolutely no reason why it can't work at the high school level. Obviously the biggest obstacle would be finding enough teachers.

Holy crap I didn't expect this many replies. It was mostly a rant becuase people have turn into to asshole sence the realease of this game. You used to be able to stand in jueno /sh "help me with my af please" and get like 100 /tells in 5 mins. Now youre lucky to get 1 in 5 hours. Now you have people telling youto spell? It's not the way the game was built. It was built to get away from life AND unless youre an english teacher I don't think you need to tell someone that their spelling is off or their grammer is bad.Let them play the game they are paying for.If you can't read it simply state "I can't understand you, could you possiably write this better" much better than "I see that english wasn't youre first native tounge" or just straight up "Youre spelling and grammer sucks."

And if you think we "have" to type a god damn essay on QCDN than you are wrong.

Its a forum. A place to chat where you are able to talk as you want too.Maybe if the forum/thread said "help me with my english homework" than yes.

Good replies so far I didnt expect to get this many replies in like 10hours>.>!

No you didn't. Unless the used to you're talking about happened to be while i was on break then it's exactly the same it's always been.

And do they not split it in US? I've had it split since like year 9 (13/14). Were we had a few lessons dedicated to literacy, and then year 10 onwards they are counted as two seperate subjects (English literature and E. language). I had considered taking english literature, but my writing skills are pretty dire (and i've improved significantly over the past few years) and i was concerned it would turn a hobby of mine into a chore.

So whoo physics -.-; Thats another rant altogether though.

So i think general consensus is Spelling and grammar yay, Pedantic asses and retards boo.

God are you serious?

The average high school curriculum I know of requires all Freshmen to take a writing course with some literature (so that you have something to write about). After that its primarily literature courses, unless you take AP lang, but even then we had to write at least 1 paper ever month... usually it was more like one every 2-3 weeks. Furthermore, our other classes all required essays, and the teachers would go over grammar points with us if we were doing poorly.

In college the literature classes focused a lot on writing too. However it was limited to persuasive essays rather than Journalism or creative writing. That said, persuasive essays are by far the most useful, and most applicable, type of writing you learn in school when applied to the internet.

As an example... I took a course just about Milton and we had to write at least 4 papers on Paradise lost, and 1 on Paradise regained, and our final was a paper about his poetry... Perhaps it varies a lot from school to school but... idk... I find it hard to believe your not over-exaggerating the lack of writing you were exposed to in your education.

oh and... on topic >.>

Others have probably said this already but, communication here relies on the written word... If you can't spell well, and use proper grammar it makes it difficult to take you seriously... If ones grammar is below High School level, I won't read the post; its as simple as that.

Also, to agree with what someone else said earlier, WHITESPACE is very important, and actually does have a role within grammar at large, not just presentation.

Your English is great. Kotsu was just making a joke, not criticising.

As for me, I lived in Mainz-Budenheim for almost two years, and even combining total immersion with constant study, I couldn't pick up German at all. It was just too different from English. Even when I could stumble over a phrase, my accent was so bad no one could understand what I was saying. Today I can say hello, good bye, thank you, you are welcome, and I know how to order a pizza. I think it is amazing that you do so well with English.

There was a study a few years back about the positioning of letters inside a word... As long as the first and last letter were in place, you could read the word no matter how jumbled it was.

So I rlealy dnot konw why polepe cnat rsie aobve tiehr bsaic lveel of eglnish and dphecier the psot on thier own... It inst taht hrad.... Istnaed of tllineg ohetr popele tyehre lzay, why dnot you put yuor bairn weher yuor muoth is, and fugrie the psot out on yuor own.

Point the finger at yourself before you point at someone else. Sure, some people could use with typing better, but unless it is in a language you dont understand, or the words dont even slightly resemble words at all, you should be smart enough to read it, and without difficulty.

So instead of one person not being a stupid lazy fucker, we all have to make the extra effort? THAT makes sense.

it makes the reader no less stupid or lazy, if they dont put forth the effort to read it. It doesnt even take a lot of effort, at all.

And also, if people will approach the users that seem to spell horribly or use grammer in an awful way, in a polite manner, I can guarantee they will probably try to improve, but if you let your ass-hat take over, youre going to be ignored.

Clearly everyone here -does- read what Hellstorm and co. write, seeing as how he gets so many rate-downs for his crappy ideas. Also, no, we've asked many times without being assholes for them to step it up, yet none ever do, so your "guarantee" is crap. GG, time for class, bye.

Every time Ive seen, its not been in a polite manner, lol.

On another note, a lot of the time, these users will be foreign, or english clearly isnt their first language.

I remember that study, it was an interesting find. It's not very relevant though, since that study was only about jumbling the word around, and a lot of the misspellings that people criticize for are either missing or have different letters. It also doesn't excuse the people who make a habit out of horrible spelling and it has no bearing at all on their horrible grammar. You want to ignore the actual problem because the symptom isn't that bad and that's really a poor way to go about it.

Polite works, sometimes. It requires the person you're being polite to to be mature, which unfortunately isn't always the case and sadly less often in a video game environment. If they were smart/mature enough to actually listen to a polite criticism without getting overly defensive; they more than likely would have improved on their own. Being polite mainly just makes you feel better, without accomplishing much or accomplishing the same as not being polite.

Allowances are made for people who don't speak English as their first language; but that's not a "bulletproof defense" against poor spelling and grammar. They should be able to get their point, if they don't it's a problem.

We're also not attacking every person for every misspelling they make. It's only the ones who do it habitually without any signs of improvement or even desire to improve.

Well... Just naturally, anyone would much rather be approached about something they do wrong in a good manner. No one likes to have people badger them in an unfriendly way, but if youre friendly about something, its going to draw more attention than not. Being an ass will probably drive the people from the boards. (I know some people should be driven away.) Some of you may think, "Good, the boards are better off without them." But the boards are a community for everyone, not just select people.

Im just saying, there will be more and better results if youre nice. Dont confuse 'nice' with being a carebear either. Nice is what you are to your friends... Well, most of the time, lol. Some people have some evil friends...

I like how you used guarantee and probably in the same sentance. I wounder what would happend if warranties worked like that. We garantee this product will work most of the time!
