{English}PT{No thanks.}

It's usually considered tacky to use romaji because
It is so difficult to read. I usually don't bother
reading it. It looks bad, and it feels disrespectful.
There are Kanji and Kana for a reason.
It's nice to see when people make a reasonable
effort to communicate in Japanese even if it is romaji,
but like someone said earlier, many Japanese natives
just see it as English. I learned both as a small child,
but it still is a pretty big eyesore to read Romaji.
Didn't mean to offend anyone, just giving the facts.

In my experience, when I hear people whine about this, it's usually some guy leveling a Drk, Drg, Pup, Thf, or Sam. and they can't figure out why they can't get the random JP Brd, Rdm, Whm, Nin, War, Mnk, or Cor to join; yet they totally ignore that all the NA Brd, Whm, Rdm, Nin, War, Mnk and Cor are ignoring em too. The facts are this, you're a less desired job, juat deal with it, you'll eventually get to 75, it's just going to be harder than say if you leveled Brd, Rdm, Whm, Nin, War, Mnk, or Cor.

Also keep in mind your reputation and your Job availability. If yoiu are seeking and there's a lot of good or desireable jobs seeking too, yoiu will likely get ignored. If you are a level 73 Drg, and there's like 25 merit level jobs seeking, be wary you will likely not get what you want.

I definitely ignore the 73 DRG, WAR also who invites my NIN to XP.

but I can say (as other have) that I usually feel a little aprehensive when I get an Auto-Trans invite... 80% of the time it's a Gil seller... and the other 20% of the time it's some dipshit.

Don't get too discouraged. People get a little comfortable with seeing the same people repeatedly. As soon as you exp more, or more frequently, and are not an ass, people remember you, language or not, and the invites will come.

The worst is when I have "Your party better not suck or I'll leave" or something like that in my comment, and some dumbass NA still autotranslates every single fucking thing he says when talking to me.

And people definitley remember good players. I remember on my hume THF I xp'd with some random JP, and he invited me a few weeks later on another job of his soley on the fact I'm one of the greatest players ever, even on my rank 5 THF.

Overall I like each line of the party to be the same language, unless I know they are good. Nothing worse than trying to get a dumbass JP to line up for SATA. At least I can yell at NA idiots, I don't know any JP so I can't tell them how fucking stupid they are.

English players cant type in Kanji or Kana though. So those of us lucky enough to know Romanji use that to at least try to communicate with them.

How many people really hold that much of a conversation in party? I don't really. If I want to talk, I usually do it in LS or /tell.

Maybe that's just me though.

There are Kanji and Kana for a reason, yes, and I agree with romper, some of us do speak a little bit of Japanese, and we can't always type in your language. But is it not true that Japanese people take a lot of English words and convert it into Katakana so they can read it?

I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

There's a reason why someone wouldn't want to party with most NA's that I haven't seen mentioned yet. It's the habit a lot have of constantly AFKing every 5 minutes for some reason or another. Someone joins the pt then, "brb in 10 minutes, going to make a sandwich," or getting to a camp and fighting for a few minutes then you hear, "hay, i gotta take my grandma to Walmart, u mind if im gone 4 20min (do you mind if I sit in pt and leech xp)? Every excuse you can think of to stop doing what they had their ! flag up for.

On the other hand almost every invite I've gotten as the only non-Japanese speaking person in the party in the past 4 years pretty much all went the same way. Party was formed in a town (no replacement bs) and the leader stated a specific amount of time they wanted the party to last. If everyone agreed the party went to where they were camping. Then the party shockingly proceeded to kill monsters and chain them regularly without constant interruptions of AFKers. If someone need to use the WC then the entire party would take a brief restroom break and then resume chaining. When previously stated End time was reached the party was over. No one whining, "but i'm 1500tnl" or anything like that. Maybe I've just gotten lucky but almost every experience I've had was pretty much that smooth and simple.

I've run across my fair share of asshole JP players over the years too so I'm not trying to say they are all perfectly courteous, efficient players. Whether or not someone is an asshole has nothing to do with their nationality/race/culture/religion/etc.

The AFK factor is the biggest difference between NA and JP players that I've noticed. Never noticed much difference in player skill, gear choice, or anything like that. Mainly just party etiquette differences that seem like common sense to me. Don't seek for party if you don't have much time. Personally if I don't have a solid 2 hours to party then I'll just solo for xp or do something else during that time. Don't party if you have something else you will have to do that will make you go AFK all the time. When most people seek for party they don't want to wind up standing around waiting on you the whole time, they are seeking because they actually want xp on that job.

I've always found the argument that JP are somehow better than NA to be rather odd, seeing as how it's NEVER been upheld in my experience. JP, in parties I have joined and built, afk just as much as NA, suck just as bad as NA, and actually have a greater tendency to leave parties without prior notice.

I generally prefer not to invite JP to my parties for much the same reason that many JP prefer not to be invited to them, namely the language barrier. I'd rather have a mediocre NA that I can talk to and tell what I want done than a good JP that doesn't understand what I'm trying to say and continually does something contrary to my interests.

Aside from the language barrier, I've never noticed any real difference between the various groups that play FFXI. Everyone has their share of gimps, rude assholes, and clueless idiots.

Most of the people that intend to insult the US do it by saying 'america.' They have no idea that theyre including nearly all of the western hemisphere, instead of a single country.

Like up there, "stupid american pig" lol, although I dont think that was serious, its an example.
Uh... I didn't know people from Brazil called themselves american...
Or that Candians were american.

American is the denotation for people from the USA. Latin America is well Latin america... And nobody confuses Latin America for the USA unless you're American and suck at geography...

Anyway, back to lurking and reading pointless dribble. That is all.

Grrr no edit button. Anyway, originally when I started I'd say JP parties were better than NA parties. Nowadays it's more evened out. I think the communication issue and attitude differences as pointed out earlier are probably what keeps this kind of stuff going. But really, what's the point of getting upset over it?

Strangely enough, I've been invited on DRG (!?) plenty of times to an otherwise completely JP party. I got one last night after about 10 minutes of seeking (already a record) but the plot thickens: I had checked the seeking list when putting my flag up and there was about 10-12 ppl also seeking. That usually means no invite, so when I did join I peeked at the list to see who else they had passed up. To my utter shock there were a number of other NA and JP choices including a JP WAR one level below me.

Maybe it was rank, maybe it was me putting my gear in my search comment on auto translate but it always seemed to me they take us when it suits them and vice versa.

What do you think about those parties where you're invited as a replacement, and then the party disbands 10 minutes after you join because the leader leveled up? ...Or those parties that end because the someone leveled up right away, and then magically disconnected? It's that practice of "leave whenever and (maybe) find a replacement" that's the #1 reason JPs don't want to party with Es.

You know it happens. A lot, too. And I'm sure you don't like it when it happens to you. Experiencing things like that makes JPs decide it's not worth the risk/time investment, especially when they lack the facilities to tell the person how pissed they are.

Someone mentioned describing jobs and level range when inviting. This should be done in general, to E or JP, imo when you're trying to form parties.

One other thing you might want to add to your /tell is the expected duration of the session. If you show you are actually committed to the duration, and don't plan on bailing whenver you feel like it, they might feel a little more comfortable joining. JP parties are usually formed with durations which are agreed upon beforehand.

Japs do this too, I dont know how many times in a JP party all XP has stopped, a bunch of faces come across the screen, and they say "disbanding party goodbye". Or a jap just says "last boss". You're full of it thinking thats an english onry method.

How how about jp players that just warp when they are done exping and leave the na/eu behind.

Blm<name> casts warp2 on job<1,2,3,4>. Remaining members : wtf?!?.

that makes me laugh sometimes, even when i'm one of the remaining members. we kinda stand around and curse their names before one of us braves leaving the camp "a pie".

It doesn't help when we have some truly assanine NA/EU players as well.

Someone last night in Aht Urghan Whitegate was shouting: "<I don't speak any English> <party> <No thanks!>?" then "<Japanese> <Too Weak>!". People like this do not make the situation any better, just gives everyone a bad outlook on NA/EU.

Why cry when people treat you like shit when you've been doing the same to them all along (collectively, that is)? I've experienced no JP parties where I didn't receive at least a 30 minute warning. This is, of course, as a JP player. Maybe a lot of JPs, from their personal experience, just think it's normal for Es to end whenever, so they just do that when they invite Es. I have no personal experience to offer for that, as I've never joined JP parties impersonating as an E.

How can you even claim to know what is going on if all you can make out of the discussion they are having is "a bunch of faces come across the screen"? Perhaps they've already worked out with each other when to end, and just didn't convey it to you? At least I've never run into a single player that communicates using solely emoticons.

You can do your "JP sucks too" thing all you want--it's quite irrelevant here. The OP is inquiring why it is that there are {english} {party} {no thanks] JPs, and I'm just saying that a lot of JPs don't want to waste time joining what has a comparatively high chance of ending up to be a 10-minute party. The "leave whenever" phenomenon is far more pervasive in E parties for sure, and I hope you're not trying to argue otherwise.

They may have decided amongst themselves, wouldn't you consider it rude to not let the NA players know?

You always come across as though JP are perfect and NAs brought everything wrong into the game, well, I'm sure there are just as many shitty JP players as NA, get off JP nuts. I know there are dumb NA players, I don't lie to myself about it.
