{English}PT{No thanks.}

Just because they're required to take English in school doesn't mean they know English. I took three years of Spanish and the only thing I learned was a couple cuss words and how to ask if you have cheese in your pants.

Calais, ¿tiene queso en tu pantalones?

I usually play JP times and sometimes getting invites can be slow just because I’m a NA player but I would say it is mainly because they want to communicate efficiently.
And for as bad as it sounds I kind of think that the JP players tend to be a bit better then NA players, in that there are generally less arguments and more open to different party setups. And usually it is a core group of people that party together a lot and sometimes need 1 extra person. Hehe and I think I have become a better player while pting with them.

This isn't half as bad as seeing: "No BRD no PT". Or " Party. Do you need it ?" " Got a Bard?" " "No" "No thanks". When there is over 60 people at a given time seeking and it now has gotten so bad people will literally sit on their ass for HOURS on end seeking group when you could have just formed up any old party and got decent amount of exp. " Make your own PT" thats teh usual response to this. Tried that to, but everyone wants a BRD or they wont pt. It is getting out of control. I had a COR refuse to pt unless pt had a BRD. WTF!? seriously ppl.

I heard that our handy translator is often ignored by Japanese players because it doesnt show we know their language, just how to mimick some of their words. Some Japanese players may find the translator rude in some fashion perhaps.

hmm sometime i think the whole JP only thing is like a cycle, a retribution.
Let say that we have 2 Japanese A and B and 2 english speaker C and D. A has bad experience with english party( bored, lousy player etc) and decided that he only wan to party with japanese. C does not know that and ask A to be party to get a reply of no,thanks.JP only. C got angry, seek/merit and when B decided to invite C, C stated English PT only. B got angry and reject D invite and the cycle keep on going. Even if are treated with this attitude, we should not do it the same way back. Hey maybe there is also a japanese QCDN that have a flameboard topic going as "English party only".

In my personal experience, I just think JP pick up parties are just far superior to NA. Sorry if this offends people but its that truth and thats why I think most of them are so "JP ONLY" in there mentaility. When I do get an ivite from a JP party, even though its boring usually, the exp is very good. When is NA and a random invite well... It usually blows. I just don't think casual playing NAs take this game as seriously as casual playing JP. Again I'm talking about PICK UP parties. Good statics from both sides are fairly equal.

And I'm far from biased. I'm as NA as they come. I don't really care for JP, there culture, or there weirdo cartoons. But I like there toyotas and there ffxi game play.

thats a pretty arrogant POV they have if thats the case. that translator works both ways. its to allow us to communicate with each other. not just for NA players to talk to JP players. their one sided, norrow vision is the problem in that instance.

Ohh I dunno I've partyed withsome pretty bad Japanese players too, like the Galka thf lv 22 that everytime he went to pull a mob in delkuffs tower he'd stand there and stare at it for several minutes, untill our taru mage got so bored waiting to nuke something he'd run by him and blast it to pull. :)

I think good players and bad players are common in both cultures, its just a bit premature to assume "oh they are japanese we'll do great for exp now."

I guess the most annoying thing I've seen is:

Me > Hello! Do you want to party? EXP (etc~~)
Person > I'm sorry, I do not speak any English. *

*In PERFECT English.

I would've accepted it in Auto-Translate but that is kinda like a slap in the face.

This was a couple of years back though, I don't party no more due to time.

I had a Japanese party one time in the Dunes. It ruled. But they wouldn't let me leave until one of them randomly said, "Time for work!"

I had another Japanese party and I was the only NA and they wouldn't tell me anything. Anything I asked was quickly followed with a mass spamming of "WWWWWWWWWWWWWW". The party was horribly shitty and they where all gimp except the WHM, I was BRD. (I actually gave a shit about my gear to unlike 96% of other BRDs.)

I had a mixed Japanese/English party and it was the best I ever had. Was around level 69-70 with a PLD tank who was Japanese and the rest was LS/RL friends. Was in Caedavira Mire or w/e. We got amazing EXP (at the time, was like half a year after ToAU was out.)

Most parties I've had recently of both have just been completely fucking awful. Pulling barely 5-6k/hr in ToAU areas in the same spots I remember pulled 10k/hr+. All the tanks, DDers and refreshers have been awful and severally gimp. Out of all of the parties I've had in the 55-62 range, I've run into only a few others who had good gear and knew what the fuck was going on.

Maybe not many NA but there's plenty of EU player seeking in JP prime time.

Aye. Even worse being an Aussie player. Sydney is about 1 hour ahead of Japan.

And I thought everyone in Japan loved Australia

The JP/NA problem is older than FFXI. I would dare to say it goes as far as parents telling their children Hiroshima stories, but I'm aiming a lot closer with this tale. The 1st online RPG that JP and NA played togheter was Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast. NA got into the JP release importing and using the infamous saeem info (jp address).

The interaction there was horrendous as I witnessed it firsthand. It started with NAs stealing JPs or anyone's weapon when the player died (before the patch when you died the weapon u were holding was dropped on the floor, for anyone to steal before you got raised) then they force DCed. I can say JPs never stole weapons because I played with a lot and when I died my weapon was still there. But while I played with NAs I got my weapon stolen 4 times (well 3 because I followed one thief to the lobby and he returned it after i threatened him). ; ;

Then it was the Zonde MPK then steal, Megid MPK, Black Screen of Death, etc... JPs adopted the "GO AWAY" method. They shouted that whenever americans entered the 4 player room (with JP text). They would all leave the room if the american didn't. I'm betting almost all those JPs that played PSO are playing FFXI since it started and word gets around.

This is the first time I've heard someone other than myself bring this up. Sadly, this was 100% true, and during the end of the dreamcast servers, it was only worth playing on the japanese servers. Hell, a lot of them didn't even know the shit that was happening on our end was possible for a long time. Sad times.

Exactly why I stopped playing PSO. I loved the game. Then came the cheats. Its stupid, play the game or gtfo.

Far before we were having the cannon problem, back in the days of (in my eyes) a more serious segregation between JP and NA players, I was in a static. We were really good too. RNG, BLM (me), RDM, PLD, SMN, DRK; sounds like an odd group, we were, but we rocked fucking socks.

Due to real life arising, our PLD had to quit the game (always missed of course... except when he kept slapping my butt, but w/e...). We replaced him, our nightly static, with a very kind JP PLD. His name was Jedo, he was fucking uber. Normal gear but just a hell of a player. Nicest guy. Learned English from us (barely, lol, probably more cuss words from me than anything), really taught us how to work with the communication barrier and overall.. pretty much taught us (with just his presence), that we're all just here trying to play a game that we all enjoy.

Eventually the static broke, and for the remainder of his playing career, every time we saw eachother we waved. <Hello!> <friend>!

Its frustrating when every available job to complete your party have 'JP PT ONLY' in their /seacom. I've gone ahead and asked anyways before. Exp is exp. I have gotten positive results from this, and also non-response. Big deal. I always make sure to use the Translator as best I can, to make as much sense as possible, use stupid pictures and /bow to them in thanks when I can.

I guess I'm just rambling now, but do what you please, and feel how you like. We're all just here to play a game we enjoy.

Ive noticed if you can get a japanese in your party, when you need to invite the next you can entice them by saying 2NA 2JP or something in the party so that way they have SOMEONE to talk to.

And just being polite can help too, but i guess its a case by case deal.

This is one of the most intelligent things that I have ever read here. Seriously.

Does this really belong in the Flameboard?

If you are willing to make any effort at all and be respectful then you can party with many JP players and perhaps make new friends and learn something.

To even imply that the Japanese do not want to be in XP parties with non-japanese speakers if unfair and untrue.

There are many rude people in the game that give English speakers a bad name and vice-versa.

It would have been more useful to have started a thread in another forum like: How can we improve FFXI Japanese-American relations. Just take your "No thanks" and move on. At least they said thanks instead of: Baka Gaijin (stupid foreigner).

I've partied with many JP players, and i've made new friends, and learned that some of them are far from anti-foreigner. What i'm annoyed at (hence the position in the Flameboard) is that some JP players flat-out decline invites or, even worse, don't respond at all, solely because they're non-JP. They will more than often decline without knowing your setup, your camp, your level range etc.-

The problem here is that sometimes they won't respond simply because we're non-JP. Often, i'll see signs that they're clearly not AFK, which means they're ignoring you. This rudeness is why I started the thread- and positioned it in the Flameboard.

Hope that clears things up, because you clearly misunderstood what I was trying to provoke a discussion about.
