{English}PT{No thanks.}

I never had a problem with JP only or JP players at all until one day I had a few "invites" until they realised I wasn't JP and then it was "English No, Thanks". Well in a bad mood I decided to put JP <Party> <No, Thanks>. I got about 3-4 tells saying "GM <Call Beast> <Do You Need It> and "RACIST". To think that JP Only is ok for them but English only isn't ok for us really pissed me off.

Ah crap that was me (Sharpe), forgot I was on the better half's PC and not my laptop :(

I would so love an uncapped GM jug pet :nyam:

Just had a funny thing happen and I thought I'd share.

I play in the same time zone as Japan, so I'm used to being ignored when I'm trying to build a party. I usually try and think positive and just assume that when I don't get a {No thanks} that they are afk. Anyway, I send a tell to a japanese WHM who is lfg and get no reply. No biggy, just try the next WHM down. Anyway about 5 minutes later I get a japanese tell from the WHM followed by a {mistake}. BUSTED! I knew they just ignored me all the time. I sent a tell back saying <-- Australian {I'm sorry. I don't speak Japanese} and suddenly the WHM is sending me tells apologizing for not replying. To top it off, his english was actually pretty good.

I don't get where their NA hate comes from. There are good players and bad players from both countries, and it's just plain rude to assume every english speaking player is NA and therefore don't even deserve the effort it takes to say {No thanks} to a party invitation.

JP Only in seacom? Fine, I won't ask because I don't speak japanese. And hell if you're gunna be the only japanese person in the level range seeking and would rather lfg for another 8 hours than *gasp* party with some people that speak a foreign language, all the power to you, that's commitment.

So there is no chance they could have been afk, your tell came in and rolled off the screen, then when they try to talk to their friend they talk to you by accident?

Its just kinda weird how everyone seems to be able to read minds of the JP, I mean if they reply with 'No Thanks' they're racist, if they dont reply they're ignoring you, it seems like there is no winning here.

Its all well and good that you are once of the nice ones, but for people that have been around since NA release or near it (I came about 3 months after it) you're giving them a bit too much benefit of the doubt.

To the super extreme, i could break in to a house and just be "exploring". There is a small possibility that it is indeed the case, but everyone knows what you were really doing.

Back in the day there were barely any 75 NA players, and you literally had to use an alliance of 50 range and mid 60 players to get most of anything done.

Full alliances wiping to Lich's in EC, 2 parties to farm coffer keys, AF3s needed full alliances.

Now you can do all of that shit with 1-3 75s, and there is overabundance of level 75 NAs.

New people don't have any idea what it took when the first few waves of players passed through the 50s (when most obstacles were) because every LS has at least a small group of 75s in it, or has friends who are 75.

I didn't meet a NA level 75 player till I was doing G2 at level 55ish.

Getting help is too easy now a days in this game.

LOL I remember when having a lvl75 in your LS was like OMG THAT MUST BE A GOOD LS THERES A 75NA IN IT!!! lol

I remember when I hit lvl 50 about I started making my own LS had some people like Dalkiel, Isaruu, Imnopunkbeach and even Jonosapi was in it a short time to name a few. I recruited these players when they were like lvl 10-15. Because I was actually a high lvl NA at 50. Damn I miss those days. LOL

When I dinged 61 DRK, I stopped leveling and just helped my LS do genkais and AF till my DRK reached 64 pretty much on coffer hunts. I used all the friends I had made doing my own runs and thankfully Arturus and Audino had a shell, ArcaneGarden doing the same things, so we were able to help each other out, especially the AF3s.

And thats when 61 was like 30k tnl or w/e it originally was.

That's when being nice... Hurt! LMAO

I got Kazham keys and subjob items for like 15 members in my ls. LOL

Geeze how I hate those fucking Kazham key's. LOL

Im not giving 'them' any benefit of any doubt, ive been around since NA release, I know in the beginning it was hard to find help, but even a couple years ago it was near impossible to find any help from ANYone. Simply because one helps their linkshell with stuff doesnt mean they help with random shouts for help. I mean honestly, would you help a shout in full JP text or full EN text first?

I just think you people are being way too rough on stuff that doesnt really have any grounds to be argued. Again, I dont doubt that there are jerk JP players out there, but I dont think that you people are giving JP a fair chance, had the game come out in EN countries first maybe the EN wouldnt have helped the JP as much due to language barriers. Yes, you may have helped but in general it is possible that EN as a whole would have helped them less.

But really its just society in action, there are jerks and asses in every color and race, but you cant let those few bring down your view of an entire race. Its just kinda unfair and illogical >0<;

While it's correctly argued that both sides have their share of assholes and gimps, there is one simple fact that cannot be argued, and that's the fact that you will find at least 20 JP players with {English}{Party}{No thanks.} for every one English speaker with the reverse comment in his seacom.

That's the sort of thing that leads to this kind of reaction. If it were roughly equal, hell, if it were only twice as many JP with that comment, people would have less of an issue with it, but that's not the way it is.

Its true, and I personally find it to be kinda weird, but the chances of them all not wanting to party with EN because they hate ENs guts and hope they die and rot in hell is insanely low. You cant just pull negative connotations out of something that has the possibility of being completely harmless >0<;

Just like I cant tell people to not hate JP for this, EN cant tell JP to party with them, we've just gotta accept it for what it is and respect that. If they blatantly say [English][Lame-sause-losers] then by all means rip em a new one, but to say they're rude for simply having a preference to play with people they can fully understand is kinda rude in itself.

Another problem like that was that in the earlier days of the NA playing experience, there were some pretty straightforward racist JPs that took great pains to make sure that every NA they ran across knew just how much they were hated. I'm sure most of the people that were around from even the NA PS2 release forward remember certain notable JP shell leaders making memorable comments like {English}{Diseased}{Country}{Leave}.

For that matter, long ago before I bothered with seacoms on my PLD, I would occasionally get invited to parties, have them find out I spoke english, and promptly get booted. It left enough of a sour taste in my mouth that I took Japanese off my language list, and did indeed put {Japanese}{Party}{No thanks.} in my seacom for a while. After a while I stopped caring and returned to my policy of partying with pretty much anyone, but my experiences of several years ago left me wary.

The "Japanese Players are All Racists" myth may not be especially accurate, but like most myths it exists for a reason.

Well cruising general forums of other sites shows many EN people are racist to JP, does that mean I should be cautious of partying with EN? Everything pretty much goes full circle when it comes to blatant racism really.

Typically on sites like this you'll see less "JP Suck, don't party with them" and more "JP are racist and hate NA", if that's what you're going to call racism on NA forums. I'm not saying it's justified, but I will say it's not quite the same thing as what a lot of NA experienced early on.

There are outright racists in the NA community, no question, but I'd wager serious money that there are a lot fewer NA (relatively speaking) that refuse to party with JP simply because they're JP.

But as I stated much earlier in this thread, the vast majority of the problem lies in the language barrier. It's the sole reason I generally won't invite JP to fill any critical role in a party I'm constructing unless I have no other choice. I hate not being able to talk to my RDM, or puller, or whatnot.

I haven't seen much of it on this forum in particular (which is cool) but racism early on shouldn't be a factor in racism NOW, I mean honestly the amount of people who played back then is significantly lower than people who are moderately new (couple years). So its all stereotyping based on what the JP did early on.

In WW2 America put all the Japanese and Japanese Americans into concentration camps because of the bombing of pearl harbor when none of the Japanese from over here had anything to do with it, same with the 911 bombing people started being racist because of the race of the bad people, when its not justified. By all means hate the evil people, but don't lay the hate blanket on top of innocent people simply because they share the same skin color.

You don't wanna invite JP because language barrier is normal and perfectly logical, which is why it shouldn't be hard to see why a JP wouldn't want to join a party full of EN.

A similar thing was done with many German speaking people in the UK during WW2, only prob is names aside most germans look like english people so it was a lot harder to tell who was the enemy even though they lived in the same country. War does that to people they become more patriotic and suspicious, its hard to explain really but in its own way understandible. The same thing was happening to americans and brits in Japan and Germany controlled areas too.

Sorry for the history speech, it doesnt belong here I know. :(

I party with Japanese, Germans, French, and prob many other nations I dont even know of, all that should matter is that we are all here to play an enjoyable rpg. I never put personal feelings ahead of a potentual good party set up. And if others do well thats up to them.

Ok, simple facts are that being Australian, my main play time is spot on the dot with JP prime time. 9 times out of 10 when I'm building a party, japanese players just ignore any tell I send them. Another favourite of mine is when you ask, they ignore you, then go anon for 15 minutes. These aren't one off instances either. Nor is the sudden willingness to reply when I say I'm Aussie.

Mooshywooshy it's great that you are standing up for the entire JP player base, but facts are facts, most JP players simply will not party with EN speaking players. I don't think it's racist to only want to play with people who speak your native tongue, it's actually a lot more fun to interact with the other members of your party. However is not only racist but incredibly rude to not respond to a tell, just because they don't speak japanese. That goes both ways as well and applies to the EN players that behave the same way.

I also don't think anyone is making any more assumptions about the JP player base as you are about the EN player base. And yes, this thread is speaking in gerneral terms and there are always exceptions to the rule. I've had some awesome JP/EN exp parties (and equally shitty ones), had JP players fill critical roles in CoP missions, been invited on rank missions
by JP parties, as well as ZM static and ENMs. Each time it's been a blast, but generally speaking, most JP players don't want to party with EN players.

This information of the US "concentration" camps is a little wrong. What happened is yes we put Japanese into camps, but calling them concentration camps is a little harsh. Yes they were like them, but we weren't killing people off by working them to death. Yes there were deaths at Angel Island because of disease and infections spreading, but I highly doubt that we were lining them up shooting them or taking them on marches in winter because the opposition was closing in on that camp.

I will say this I have had some pleasant experience with Japanese players. Some of them weren't so pleasant such as them randomly disbanding with out word. I normally make sure there's another Japanese player with so they can talk with each other. The whole disbanding with out warning though has pushed me to not inviting Japanese anymore.

"I also don't think anyone is making any more assumptions about the JP player base as you are about the EN player base."

I guess, but people saying "I'd bet good money on the fact that A) in general EN players are better than JP and B) in general EN players are nicer than JP" kinda told me they were implying something about EN being 'better' than JP when there is no factual evidence or anything, maybe im reading it wrong.

Fact of the matter is people have their reasons to not talk and/or ignore people, just accept it, why does it have to be a bad thing? So someone isnt talking to you for a reason you DONT know, why does it have to bother you?
