How much of an effort is it going to take for this to shy away from a 'Hey, [Vang|Raivyn|TiyaKelth primarily] lets flame Peregrine' post? I know he's provoked a bit of it, but it's just getting childish now. I see you guys saying 'Hey stay on topic' but then right after you say that you start instigating again. I've been watching this thread, why don't we put some substance into the thread and stop debating on whose an elitist and whose not. It doesn't really matter. The ones who've been continuing the off-topic argument have lost a bit of credibility in what little content they've put into the thread, at least for me. Now, back to the topic...
It's about the Peacock charm new availability, and maybe a little accuracy chatter.
I'm with Skaw on this one. PCC (especially) and SH are more vanity pieces imo. I don't own a SH yet. Yes, I'm saving for one. Know why? The evasion bonus. I want the evasion bonus because I'm contemplating meleeing Maat at 70. SH is not a requirement especially for THF at 57. It's nice, but I wouldn't stoop to calling another THF gimp because they didn't have one.
Before update, 20+M for a PCC was alot of money, hell 5+M for a SH is even alot to save up. Unless you camp something for endless hours and get a lump sum, you'll be saving for ages. I wouldn't even think to stop leveling to submit to a stereotype that THF without SH is one shamed THF. Same with PCC. I still don't really want a PCC, I considered getting spectacles instead. Now that the price on PCC has lowered, I might just tough out a little more and work toward one. Who knows.
All I know was 25-30M for 2 items, is a huge time consumer. I'm in college, college is a whole different environment than High School or an 8 hour workday when you come home. College takes a lot of time out of your day. You spend 15 hours a week in class, but for each hour you spend in class, you spend at least two hours outside of class working on reading or class work or essays. I've worked my ass off this summer, because I know that when I get to college, my time is going to be sparse. I can't afford to spend all hours of the day making 'gil' off of a game, that when I quit will return nothing to me. I think that was a large portion of what Peregrine was saying. The people who have all this crazy expensive equipment, have the TIME to obtain it. They can spend all day long on the game. Just because you have more time to make money and make large luxurious purchases, doesn't make you any better or worse than any other person in the game.
In regards to more acc making for better SC in xp parties and whatnot, the way I look at it is, in a party, if you can regularly skillchain and you can attain chain 5's, do you really need the PCC or the SH? I have neither. In a party that has its shit together, I can easily pull for a chain 5. The way I see it, I don't xp to impress anyone. When I xp, I xp to get a chain, get my xp, then walk away from the party, hopefully a level higher. It always makes you feel warm and fuzzy when you get a tell saying 'Hey nice gear,' but other than that... if your making the xp in good time, theres no reason that these items become a requirement. I'd much rather be complimented on pulling skills than my gear in an xp party.
I don't know, I don't play this game judging numbers and whatnot. I'm not here to say 'my equip is better, I do 5% more damage than you because my gears better.' Really, what does it matter? You start sounding like the dorks on the Leeroy Jenkins video. (the 32.3333 -REPEATING- rate of survivial!) I'd be more impressed with a thief who worked hard to cap their evasion and cap their marksmanship, rather than one who farmed for items to try to compensate for their shortcomings or try to make people go 'wow, they have <item>, they must be an awesome thief.' Equipment can only go so far.
A THF with a PCC and a SH can still be a bad THF. Same with any other job this applies to. I'd much rather see some time spent on improving your levelable skills like evasion and marksmanship, then seeing a nice piece of armor sitting on your neck.
