Fallout 3

I was talking with Osi, Jereme and a couple others last night and I think I need to focus on my skill points more. I tend to balance them out as I lvl up. That means I don't have one skill above 60 as of yet. Probably my problem. I get taken down really easy.

I focused my points into lock picking, repair and medicine, and dropped points here and there on other skills, like sneak, small guns and energy weapons (and a few into speech). As for raising my skills now @ level 20, finding the books with the Comprehension perk, and the bobble-heads.
For killing stuff, ultimately I rely on being able to sneak attack everything I run across, as I do take dmg fairly easily. Being able to patch myself completely with a few stim packs is a fair trade off to me. And for stuff I don't sneak attack, Better Criticals combined with Commando, Bloody Mess, Cyborg, Finesse and Sniper means I do a stupid amount of damage per shot, VATS or not. (admittedly commando and sniper kick in in VATS only) And silent running helps getting close enough to sneak attack.
Now that I look at it, it makes sense why my sneak attack sniper shots land @ 20% chance, and insta-kill a Super Mutant Master. And when that everything else fails, I pull out Eugene and let it rip.

I mainly focused on Small & Large Guns, along with Speech, lockpicking, and Explosives late in the game. Most of my perks are gun focused, either raising the skill or improving accuracy/damage. I also took the Educated perk as soon as it was available, extra skill point everytime I level. Grabbed the Enforcer perk, which really isn't much of a benefit, I was expecting more caps for killing guys.

I wish I hadn't put so much into Speech early on, it seems with Mentats and the right attire you can win almost any Speech challenge with no difficulty. Only one I failed was in Canterberry Commons I believe with the Mechanist, but I did suceed with the Ant Queen.

Is the level cap 20 for the game, haven't reached it yet but I noticed the last set of perks require that, can you keep leveling or do you need to read books to max out at the end?

Level 20 is the max. Due to the bobble heads giving +10 to each skill area, and another 7 for +1 to each SPECIAL area, and the number of books around (comprehension is a perk one MUST get, +2 instead of +1 from books), not maxing out abilities from leveling or SPECIAL (at the beginning) allows you to spread your points around more. Ironically, since I've maxed lock picking, science and medicine, those are the books I find the most of. Which are then wasted ;_; (Higher Intelligence = more skill points at level up btw)
So, yea, you can pick only 1 of the level 20 perks. I took the Grim Reaper one due to (as I have mentioned many times) sneak attacking with a sniper rifle. I can only VATS 2 shots from it, getting the points back to instantly VATS another target is invaluable.

I don't think you can max everything, but you can damn-well make yourself a one person wreaking ball.

That sucks indeed, but it begs the question: did you only have ONE save file? That's asking to watch it get owned by a crash/file corruption/something else. I've like 200 saves, simply because I hit Esc, save, save my game on a new save (takes less than a second), and continue. When one of my latest saves got corrupted, spitting me back at vault 101 @ level 1 with no gear, I simply loaded a prior save from a few minutes ago, and was back on my way.

Still, sorry you lost all that work.

Sorry for the late reply. I usually just keep one save file for each character that I have. Hehe yea, I guess I was asking for it. I never really had a problem with Oblivion messing up my save files though(and that game sucked compared to this one) or the original Fallouts for that matter(unless I applied a new patch, but that was layed out before you anyways, so you knew what was coming). Meh, its allright though. I'm done with this game for good :p.

Off to FFXI it is then. But yea, heads up for anyone creating a new savefile on the PS3 version of the game. Make sure you have like 5 backups of your regular savefiles, because when you exit the vault, the game overwrites one of them automatically. Best to be safe.

Aw man, ran into my first Super Mutant Behemoth tonight. Finally figured out how to get to GNR, pounded my way through the Super Mutant destroyed school base, had about 1/2 health left, and jumped through the second story window to get to the GNR doors, as it appeared to be clear, no red bips on my radar. When boooom, out comes Behemoth, my reaction was "oh shit, where the fuck did that come from!?" (found out later it's scripted). Holding my basic Chinese Assault Rifle, I unloaded the entire thing into its skull from the initial panic, then pulled out Eugene (my missile launcher and Fat Man were back in MegaTon) and proceeded to start to unload the 250 bullet clip into it. Of course, I get caught on some terrain while backpedaling, so it caught me and launched me across the compound, but the blow didn't kill me. To which I replied by killing it with the single Eugene clip. Heh, was fun now that I think about it.

That's about how my first encounter went, although I just heard something behind me and turned around to a fire hydrant being slammed into my face. Once my game re-loaded, I stayed up in the second floor of the school and shot it down with the brotherhood from the GNR building.

First time I came across that Behemoth, he cracked a home run with Dogmeat. :(

For stuff like this (and hell, everything else), is the reason why I stopped using that damn dog. I spent more time babysitting the dog than playing. Fucker pisses off everything in a huge radius around it, and everything attacks it, but I didn't want it dead, so I just left it in my Megaton house till it went back to Vault 101. He's still there. stupid dog...

Unless you use this code, Dogmeat is a nuisance D;

Spoiler:
setessential 6a772 1

;)

Yea, I know what that does, but it still doesn't stop the thing from being an annoying aggro-inducing object. I stand by my "leave at vault 101" decision.

I suppose.

I don't like sneaking around. I go in guns blazing and kill everything in sight:biggrin:

There's one thing about Fallout and Oblivion (being the same engine) that I wish would have been different. Comparable to FFXI, where multiple markers could be placed on the map for different reasons. I for one, not having reached a high enough lock picking skill to break many safes would have liked to been able to place a lot of markers to remind what locations to return to. It would have been pretty sweet.

Wondering if anyone else is having problems with continuous game freezes in the same area. I'm playing PS3 version. I keep trying to go to the Arlington Library on the southern portion of the map and my game freezes every time I go down there.

I finally just lied to Moira and told her it was destroyed to finish the quest. I actually ran through that area one time following the storyline, but it won't let me go back now.

Well now I've finished every major quest (minus the final) in the game and most of the minor ones. Haven't visited anywhere near every area in the game though. Thinking I'm gonna do the final quest and finish playing until they release the downloadable content.

Anyone who doesn't know, heres what they have planned.

Pretty sure that they (Bethesda) can't develop for the PS3 for well, so they simply didn't do it.

Well, thats BS. I want my G'Damn downloadable content. Fuck 360. ><

You'd rather pay for something that would almost be guaranteed buggy? If i had this on PS3 i'd probably not even get the DLC.

And there is also a chance it could come out later so it matches the 360 quality. Harder work would make longer dev time i guess.

C'mon now, are you gonna turn this into 2008's Orange Box? The game plays fine on PS3. Actually pretty much all the bugs I've checked out were not version specific... except maybe the key jingle bug, where that damn jingling sound doesn't fucking stop. At any rate, the 360 version's DLC was announced before the game even launched... it's most likely a timed DLC like everything else this gen, and probably has something to do with all the Fallout 3 ads I ever saw only having a 360 logo at the end of them.

Didn't get the oblivian DLC and doubt I'd get the Fallout 3.

Good games but it's not like I'm ever going to have enough time to do all the content on the disc. Same goes for GTA4 to a lesser degree. There's still much content left to do I've already paid for... why go out and pay $20 to download? By the time I get that far in, if ever, it'll all be a combined single disc plat edition for $20 and I'll feel like a dumbass.

If you dont have the time thats too bad. I will find a way to make some time. Oblivions knights of the nine was a great dloadable content... And Shivering Isles was just simply incredible.

I can only hope this conent will be on par with Shivering Isles.
