Ffviii

that does make sense lanien, about rinoa = ultimecia. I never thought about it that way. . .

You run into Ultimecia on disc one..she's the one who's possessed Edea pretty much before the game began, and during the events at Timber, Deling City, and whatnot. She's inside Edea until Galbadia Garden on disc 2.. then she ends up possessing Rinoa and she goes comatose, until the events on the Lunatic Pandora and she possesses Adel, then you defeat Adel and the whole time compression happens, then you have to defeat her in her own time and end it once and for all.

And nah, she pulled Griever from inside Squall's mind and thusly created it to fight for her as the "ultimate GF", finding Griever to be Squall's conception of the most powerful force that exists, and bringing it to life to fight Squall.

The game itself is 1 of my least favorite FF's yes, but Ultimecia just didn't come out of nowhere, and neither did Zemus(he used Golbez in FFIV for most of the game), and I love the junctioning system.

Finally someone with the same viewpoint as me. Sephiroth is a mama's boy who fails to destroy the world.

And I still believe that in FFVIII, the final boss wasn't someone they threw in last minute. My theory that Tyrath might still remember from a long time ago is that Ultimecia is Rinoa. It fits in so many ways, with her summoning Griever, the symbol on Squall's ring. Also, I believe the compression of time is just to see Squall again. That along with other things Ultimecia says just makes me believe she is Sorceress Rinoa from the future.

FFVIII is one of my favorite FF games, all except for the whole "GF stole my brain" shit. That was a bit lame...

Don't be surprised if Halifirien asks you to marry him. I don't pay much attention to FF outside of the handheld Nintendo titles (working on FFVI Advance at the moment), but I've heard speeches like this from him more than once.

Think we might have to have a threesome. Lanien and I both think this way >_>

When and where? lol

The same reason people find Sephiroth an awesome villian. Sorry fanboys, he sucked. Seriously, what kind of motivation is "Waaah, I don't like what people made me" for hijacking the planet after destroying it and using it as a cosmic taxi. Never the less what kind of retarded plan that was.

Sephiroth was hardcore. Yeah his motivation was pretty gay but as a character he was vicious and it showed, he slaughtered quite a lot of people just to get what he wanted.

That said though, Kefka and especially Exdeath are both way more awesome than Sephiroth in every way.

And if you think the orphanage device was awful, surely you agree that the same basic device used in FF7 was awful as well. YOU MEANS I WASNT AN AWESOME SOLDIER AND IT WAS ZACK WHO WAS DATING AERIS WHO I LIKE AND MY HOME TOWN WASN'T BURNED DOWN AND I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE AN EPIC SHOW DOWN AGAINST SEPHIROTH CAUSE HE RAN MY GAY ASS THROUGH BUT I GOT LUCKY AND PUSHED HIM OVER A LEDGE IN TO MAKO AND TIFA DOESN'T REMEMBER THE WAY IT HAPPENED TOO?!

Actually, you didn't quite get that one right... Cloud and Aeris never really 'got it on' in any way in the game. The only really major emotional moment with Aeris was her death, which is the main thing everyone remembers about her lol.

Nivelheim did experience a huge fire but the town was rebuilt.

And Tifa did remember, she just didn't want to say anything because she was confused about the ordeal and realized something was wrong with Cloud.

Any plot device regarding memory alteration/loss as an epic character development point is pretty shitty.

At least FFVII's only affected one character, lol... and didn't use the entire basis for the game's ability system as the device, which further compounded the horrendous..ness.. of the scene.

Seriously though, He wasn't an asshole. He just didn't want to get involved with other people and their problems. What made Squall a great character for me was that deep down, he was just very insecure. You don't often see a real life weakness in video game main characters. The story line (i'm thinking the love angle and not the retarded sorceress one) for me was how he overcame his weakness with the help of someone he loved.

He came off as an asshole and that's what I'm gonna go by. I did read all his introspective dialogue just like you did, and I do understand his motivation, but like Sephiroth it just falls flat when you realize that to everyone else, he looked like the biggest jerkass next to Seifer. At least Seifer was a well-developed character who met a fairly tragic end.

And I might've liked the love story angle more if I didn't rather well hate Rinoa too, she was so incredibly bland.

If you didn't, thats cool. Just quit trying to force your opinions on others. That goes to you as well Skaw =P

I'm not forcing shit. This thread is about FFVIII sucking so I'm adding my own thoughts and that's where this thread is going. The people with the weaker backing are usually the ones who complain about "forced opinions" anyway. There is far more evidence that FFVIII was utter shit than it was a masterpiece. Square did a lot, and I do mean a LOT of things wrong with that game and very few things right.

Alas, if that was the case, yes, it'd add an interesting spin on the plot and make it more palatable, but as Tiael points out in his post, that doesn't really fit too well and is not canon. Maybe she absorbed some of Rinoa's memories/personality during the Sorceress Adel sequence but she isn't the same being as Rinoa.

Just like Zemus, she was a complete unknown until near the end of the game when suddenly she's the main target. I do understand that they were technically an integral part of each of their games' plots from start to finish, but compare both to say Exdeath and Kefka whose influence is felt directly starting from right around 1/3 of the way into their games. I didn't really like Kuja that much but he was an ever-present mastermind behind everything too (we'll just ignore Necron for now...) and Sephiroth was identified within the first five hours of FFVII.

It's much more effective and you really feel the presence of the villain and come to hate and even fear them much like the characters do. Ultimecia and Zemus both felt like just another boss thanks to the "out of fucking nowhere" nature of their appearances in their respective games.

edit: Now that I think of it FFX was fairly guilty of this too with the whole Yu Yevon subplot, but at least the Sin/Jecht plot was very well executed and built up over a long stretch of the game. Yu Yevon was doubly compounded by being a fight you CAN'T POSSIBLY LOSE which is severely gay...

Exdeath and Kefka do both kick ass, definitely 2 of my favorite villians in FF history.

How can you argue with a guy that will wipe out an entire city... just because he wants to?

Lol I'm on disc 3 just before you go into space to fight Ultemicia. I spent an entire day trying to get some stuff for my Lionheart before I leave but the fucker won't drop so I stopped playing for like 5 months <,<

EDIT**

Yeah this is what I hated about FFVIII, you never really knew who the big villain was. At first playing the game I thought it was Edea(Edea or Eden I forget.) Then it turns out it was all those bastards (In the literal term) mom sorta.

What I love about knowing who the big villain is that you never know if you are gonna have to fight him. You hear the music and you are like "Oh shitz here comes dat bitch!" Then you either have a little battle, or he throws some asshole mini boss at you. I loved how they intervened Sephiroth throughout the game, so he had an impact on a lot of the main characters (ie. Clouds idol, destroyed Tifas town, wanted to kill Aeris to control earth). I've yet to play FFV but I do plan on playing it in the near future to see what X-Death is like and see how he plays out in the story.

Ugh... I hated Seifer. It didn't take long into their first mission for me to realize I would make it my life's ambition to take down that stupid prick.

When and where? lol

Your moghouse, next Firesday. I'll bring the... nevermind, I've said too much.

I liked the game, I gave you my reasons. If you don't, as I said, cool. Why are you just repeating the same stuff again? lol

I did not completely hate the Junction system; it was the fact that leveling was pointless (since monsters leveled up with you) and you HAD to resort to the system is what truly pissed me off. Not knowing the final boss was an irritation. Not only that, the fact that fighting Omega did little beyond deplete magic you would have used on the final boss was annoying as well.

Off topic: I don't know about you but in FFX my Aeons were one-shotting my people in the final battle. At the very least Shiva onward was instant death for someone/everyone each turn. At least all those 9's looked pretty.

The aeons were too powerful for a casual gamer's party. but they were too weak for anyone who strengthened their characters a lot.

But I did that... didn't max the grid or anything but my people were pretty decent. But after unlocking the legendary weapons, all my Aeons, especially the later ones, hit every one in my party for max damage each time... Mega Flare was practically game over, along with the Mindy's Special and Anima's Oblivion...

EDIT: It was Camisado I believe. 99,999 damage. 15 fucking times.

On topic: Gotta love them T-Rexes.

Squall, cool? He was an asshole. His de facto response to just about everything thrown at him throughout the entire course of the game was "...whatever." He was completely cold to everything around him almost the entire course of the game.

Yeah exactly, that's what I said - he's cool.

I never needed to bother using magic, FFVIII was one of the easiest games I've ever played. I never had any trouble with any monsters or bosses, even the final boss didn't take very long. It's not that I was level whoring, the junction system was just really really easy.

Thanks to the junctioning system, I had 4000HP before I had more than 5 GF. Buy 10 tents and once you get Siren unlock the ability that allows you to turn items into cure/cura/curaga. Tentx1=10Curaga or something and it boosts the shit out of your HP so there is absolutely no reason to even have to heal. Another way to not waste your magic, bring Selphie and use her slot limit until you get Full-Cure, it pops up like ever 5-10th time so it's not like a super rare thing. Or you could just wait until The End turns up on Omega/Ultima its like a 1% chance of popping up though >.< but it can kill anything aside from the last boss.

Also anyone else notice how much of a cockblock Squall is to himself? IE: in the Ragnorok while in space, Rinoa is all like "I wanna ride you Squall" and he's like "I think you should go back to your seat."

Not only that but junctioning the right spells (which wasn't hard because you could see all the stat changes and you never had to commit to any junctions) caused your stats to go up TOO much if you actually drew spells to any appreciable stocks.

Yeah but you had permanent auto-freakin'-life during that fight which made it completely pointless.

Can't remember exactly where but I think one enemy or boss had an ability which removed/nulled Junction abilities, which was a total screw-over...

The Coliseum mobs were cheap, and I agree the auto-life was pointless - in the 'If I wasn't able to only win this fight I could only lose it' way. Therefore, Braska's Final Aeon= True Final boss, and he went down hard in my game. Cool sword though.

And for everyone arguing about Sephiroth having sucky motives - Seymour.

Yeah, Squall was a bit of a fag in that sense.. Rinoa was all over his balls that entire game and she's pretty fuckin hot, and he kept tellin her to fuck off. I mean we know you don't love the bitch Squall but the least you could do is screw her.

Yeah cuz everyone who has even the least bit of morals is a fag, amirite? lol
