Justinp Quetzalcoatl would be gross lol. I'm kinda happy I quit, but I do want to know what those Hermes Shoes will do. Sounds like movement speed.

FFXIVcore says increases movement speed

Damn it, that means I have to buy a EU copy of FFXI tomorrow so that I can get the FFXIV added in-game item ;/

Anyone have a EU FFXI account they don't use that I can link to my EU account? >.> I don't plan on exactly coming back to FFXI when FFXIV is released, but I want the movement speed item, lol

I wouldn't mind the bonus, but hopefully the name will have the option of being changed. Nyosan Quetzalcoatl isn't something with which I'd like to be stuck.

I do think it's slightly bullshit that it has to be an "active" FFXI account. I mean, I played for almost 6 years and I have to reactive my account for a month or two just to get this item? Nah, not worth it.

Oh well, since I quit back in December 08 I won't be getting the speed shoes. Besides, i'm not keen on the name Aurorastar Quetzalcoatl anyway :/

Are we sure that's how the naming works? I mean, it'd be utterly retarded if you couldn't change your name, and if it added Servername to it. I highly doubt it forces you to use the name, too.

I just want speed shoes, so I'mma buy a new copy of the game. They go for, what, $10 nowadays anyway?

I loathe SE atm... I've been asking them for 5 years to just convert my NA account to an EU one...

This is obviously SE just milking everything they can out of FFXI before it dies. "Lets get one extra month sub from everyone to get an item".

the only beneficial part of it i could see is the reduced subscription fee.

Not so beneficial for those who want to quit FF11 for 14. They'd really only want the Hermes boots. I doubt anyone wants Quetzalcoatl as their last name lol.

the only beneficial part of it i could see is the reduced subscription fee.

Aye. It'll cover my 3 month transition period in which I typically don't bother to deactivate my current game in favor of the one I'm trying out.

None of these things are worth going back for me. I don't play FFXI so the discount is pointless, there's those teleport things scattered across the ffxiv world, so hermes shoes really wouldn't be near as beneficial as they are in ffxi, and I find it highly unlikely that I'll have trouble getting my ffxi name in ffxiv.

Give me a special ring instead, like the nation rings we got in ffxi, but better.

Eh, unless those shoes are badass I wouldn't bother with any of that stuff. I don't wanna reactivate my XI account, I don't want my old name or the server name as a surname and I certainly don't want to pay for 2 mmo's at once.

These will destroy Herald's Gaiters, at least that's what I had been hearing before this announcement. I read somewhere they are also faster than 12%.

Oops lol They're for FFXIV and not XI, who cares

According to FFXIVCore this applies to only the Windows version of the game. The PS3 Bonuses won't be announced until a later time.

Final Fantasy XI Subscriber Bonus!

The PlayOnline site for FFXI has updated their information as well.

As the launch of Final Fantasy XIV nears, Square Enix has exciting news for current players of Final Fantasy XI. In appreciation of the years of adventuring that fans of the series have enjoyed, Square Enix is pleased to offer several bonuses for those that wish to experience both online adventures:

Bonus 1:
Save $5.95 on the base FINAL FANTASY XI Monthly Subscription

Details:

The FINAL FANTASY XI monthly service fee will be discounted from $12.95 USD to $7.00 USD per month on FINAL FANTASY XI accounts linked to the same Square Enix Account as FINAL FANTASY XIV.
Applies only to FINAL FANTASY XI subscriptions that are paid for by credit card
The discount will not be applied when the FINAL FANTASY XIV subscription is in its free period, as determined on the 25th of each month
Does not apply to FINAL FANTASY XI accounts during their free trial period
Only applies to one FINAL FANTASY XI account for each FINAL FANTASY XIV service account
Only applies to the base monthly subscription and does not affect add-on content
This offer will remain in effect until January 2011

For example, if a Square Enix Account has two FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts and three FINAL FANTASY XI accounts, then the discount would only apply to two of the three FINAL FANTASY XI accounts.

Bonus 2:
A Special Final Fantasy XIV In-Game Item

FINAL FANTASY XIV players with an active FINAL FANTASY XI account will begin their adventure with a special in-game item: Hermes’ Shoes. “Named after an elder god, all but forgotten in the modern age, these gold-tipped shoes have been crafted with the lightest of leathers, making them optimal for use by heralds and noterunners.”

Details:

For qualifying players, all playable characters created on the FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will start the game with the bonus item automatically in their inventory.
In order to qualify for the bonus item:

An active FINAL FANTASY XI account must be linked before the FINAL FANTASY XIV playable character is created
At the time the FINAL FANTASY XIV character is created, the FINAL FANTASY XI content ID registered to the linked FINAL FANTASY XI account must not be invalid or cancelled
The linked FINAL FANTASY XI account must not be within the free trial period

Bonus 3:
Transfer Your FINAL FANTASY XI Character Name into FINAL FANTASY XIV

Details:

When creating a new playable character on a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, a character name used from the linked FINAL FANTASY XI account can be transferred to FINAL FANTASY XIV.
Transfer of a FINAL FANTASY XI playable character name will not be applicable in the following instances:
If the FINAL FANTASY XIV playable character is created before an active FINAL FANTASY XI account is linked
If, at the time that the FINAL FANTASY XIV character is created, the Content ID on the linked FINAL FANTASY XI is invalid or has been cancelled
If the linked FINAL FANTASY XI account is within the free trial period
If no FINAL FANTASY XI character exists on the linked FINAL FANTASY XI account

Please note that in some instances, it may take upwards of 24 hours for the FINAL FANTASY XI character name to be selectable in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
When prompted, upon selecting the FINAL FANTASY XI character name as the FINAL FANTASY XIV playable character name, the transferred name will be the FINAL FANTASY XI player character name + FINAL FANTASY XI world name the character resides on.

Example:

FINAL FANTASY XI Player Character Name: Destiny
FINAL FANTASY XI World Name: Odin
The resulting FINAL FANTASY XIV character name: Destiny Odin

The bonuses only apply to the Windows version. Bonuses for the PlayStation 3 version will be announced at a later time!
