You don't HAVE to get the name transfer though.

Sur name, mixed feelings. If XI and XIV are not tied like they say, why bother? and the example they gave you sell you on it was terrible. "Destiny Odin" What is this, a AOL chat room? The only benifical things I can see with that, is finding people from your server if you lose contact somehow, and the cut down of people with "sephiroth/cloud/other FF character name, here" as a user name. (that will still happen) /end useless rant.

Are SE Accounts like battle.net ones?? I would haaate to have to have my father's name down as the owner of the account again.. back in the day when I joined FF11 I was forced to put down his name loool (makes me feel old). Hoping all they want is the POL ID =P
 
I'm sure they will allow surname changes guys, would be kinda stupid to see a ton of people walking around with avatars as their surnames XD

A part of me wants to believe that they'll just have the same type of item with a different name (think moogle/nomad moogle items).
...I hope.

Personally I find that to be a very nice idea. I mean if I knew you from 11 and I was trying to find you in 14 that would make finding old friends extremely easy (especially if both individuals aren't coming directly from 11 to 14). I mean that would be great to all of a sudden see that the people you used to play with 3 years ago before they quit are now playing this game. In any case I do understand the feeling of not wanting your old server name as your last name but to be honest I am torn between which way I feel about that. I know it'll be optional but still....all in all I felt that was a good idea and the true meaning behind SE putting that in place.

Can people link FF11 accounts with SE accounts now or is it something that is going to come at launch? Sounds kinda messy. And laggy. (I don't have an SE account, so I dunno :3)
 
You've been able to link them for about a year or so now. You do it through SE's website. Pretty simple process, just have all those passwords handy x_x
 
I really wish they'd tell us what the PS3 bonuses are going to be, if any. I waited to jump on XI because I had to save up to upgrade my computer I had then, and it could be that I might as well wait to buy a PS3 (that I've been meaning to get in the first place) instead of upgrading the computer I have now.
