This is something that's popped up from their official Youtube channel during E3.

Well, that was definitely something that was never mentioned before about this game O_o

I wonder if this will actually be in the final build of the game, as none of the development team have ever mentioned it before now.

Heard about this, I can't wait to see it in action once the game comes out.

gross. i cannot wait for this forced 3d shit fad to be over.

This was actually a demonstration for nVidia, unlike what they say it is. nVidia has worked closely with SE for 3D support for PC, so they decided to throw that on to show what the nVidia thingy could do. So they did it mostly for nVidia.

While they said they were thinking of adding 3D support for PC (They said they were "considering it", but considering they've worked closely with nVidia and done that.... its not unlikely), the panorama 3D thing is somethign they stated would be hard to implement. But I don't see why they wouldn't considering they had it on display.

At the very least they could release it through a patch at a later date if they don't include it at start.

No 3D for me please. I prefer my games traditional. Hurts my eyes after 20 minutes.

yeah, seems like a cool gimmick just for demonstration purposes, but seems like it'd just give you a hell of a headache after awhile.

The 3 screens lined up for 360 view is nice tho

I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, TNT tried this same technology about 10-12yrs ago and it failed. That was back when the glasses worked with the red/blue tinting though, these are much more advanced. However, you still have to wear glasses which sucks; I hate wearing glasses, that's why I purchase CONTACTS!

I find it annoying that nVidia's 3D system is designed for 120Hz monitors/tv's. Where is the love for Plasma :/, I'd love to sit 6ft back from my 50" screen and feel immersed in ffxiv. It seems that the technology currently only works with Mitsubishi DLP T.V's, and a handful of LCD's using a 120Hz refresh rate, which is the frequency the glasses operate on as well. Bajaratt may be able to further expand on this more than I can though.

I wonder if later they will release a version that extends the compatibility of the glasses with a more wider variety of viewing devices.

lol, it had to be more than 10-12 years ago. I remember trying to watch "Hondo" in 3D on TNT in like....1992.

The compatibility issues are with the TV's, not with the computers/glasses. The TV needs a port on it to be able to sync it's drawing with a separate emitter; but none of the plasmas that I am aware of bothered to put the port in, even though they can handle the signal just fine. It's also not likely to change in the future; every manufacturer(except Mitsubishi) is making their own glasses for their 3D televisions to push 3D blu-rays/tv, so they're probably not going to add in a port to use a third-party set of glasses.

3D isn't going anywhere, all of the major consumer electronic manufacturers are behind the technology, as well as most of the content providers. They didn't spend hundreds of millions of dollars just to let it go in a year. It's unfortunate for the 2% of people that it doesn't work on or hurts their eyes/head; but the TV's/monitors/movies/video games work perfectly fine in 2D mode. You don't have to turn the 3D feature on if you don't like it, assuming you even have the setup to display 3D in the first place. That's the thing I don't get, is all the outcry against it, when it's completely optional to view the content in 3D.

That said, I am, of course, a huge fan of 3D; especially in video games. 99% of people have only ever seen 3D movies, but games are much different. The 3D does add a new level of immersion if done properly, just like everything else.

Seems pretty cool. If I had the screen to run it on I probably would, for about a month at least.

However wearing them glasses for more than 2 hours would just upset my soul. Have you seen how ugly they are?
I think the whole movement is good however. Like 3D shooting games and 3D survival horror games would be amazingly intense. I just can't see me liking it that much for a game like FF14.

I'd have to see FF14 in action to see how well it'd look, but I've tried WoW on my setup before and I really enjoyed it. It made the world seem more expansive and it was cool seeing my shots/fireballs travel all the way to the enemies. We've been showing the FIFA world cup in 3D at my store, and I'm very impressed with it; the shots from field level make it seem like you're actually there and show off how huge the stadium really is.

The glasses mostly look like sunglasses, they don't look uglier than anything else I see people normally wearing.

I'm not against it, I'd love to have it; however, considering I just bought my plasma 3 or so months ago I don't plan on running out to buy a new one anytime soon. I'll give the technology a few years to mature more before reinvesting.

Sorry, didn't mean to reference you specifically, more the other people who just said they hated 3D in the thread and some of the general reaction to people who've rarely/never tried it.
