Has anyone heard what they plan to do with the PVP aspect of FFXIV? I didn't do much Ballista since to me it seemed a bit unbalanced, but if they were to improve it for XIV I'd love to participate!

I used to play ballista quite a bit back in the day, then I tried a little bit of that newer one, brenner or whatever it's called. I didn't hear anything about any new pvp in FFXIV, but let's hope it will be a lot better than what XI has.

I recall an interview stating that they had no plans for PVP at this time, but if they did do it it would be limited like Ballista.

Why is SE gay about pvp? Seriously it doesn't make very much sense, because I watch WoW pvp, and all I see is mashing the abilities and waiting for them to come back. To me ffxi's (and seems like xiv is the same speed) combat system would make a far more exciting pvp than WoW does. Maybe it's just me, but look at some of the most popular games out right now. They are PvP games.. I realize that they are mainly shooters and not mmorpg's, but thats really not the point. People love to play against each other, competition, especially if there were some decent rewards for it.

in a MMORPG popular does not equal good. many of the mmo's i lost interest in was mmo's that tried "mainstreaming" the game to much, I have no problem with there not being pvp, it'll keep the WoW kiddies away.

not to say i wouldn't LIKE some sort of pvp in ffxiv, but its not on my list of what im lookin for in the game.

I like a mmorpg thats made for mmorpg nuts, not a mmorpg that made to recruit madden players.

FFXI's PVP suffered from a few major issues, from a game design standpoint.

First, it wasn't particularly balanced. Which isn't a crippling weakness, but some people can take offense.

More importantly, it offered no significant rewards.

If they can resolve those difficulties, I see no reason why they couldn't be significantly more successful about integrating an arena-style PVP into FFXIV.

Because making a game in a way that the Majority of people want, is crazy talk.

imo, all FF games have always been PVE-focused. FFXIV, too, is focused on PVE. I wouldn't mind PVP, not at all, but I feel it would be better if they focused on making it better in the PVE department rather than adding PvP because all of the mainstream MMO games have it.

SquareEnix is a very good company at making PvE games, and as such, I'd rather they skip the PvP if it gives the more time to focus on PvE. I'd rather play a game with perfect PvE rather than good PvE and PvP.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of PvP but I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of it in the game. I just hope if they do put it in, it'll be selective and not enforced as a "you have to, to get good gear" type thing.

What about the last time we PvP'd? You had to enjoy that! (Where the fuck are you btw <_<)

I enjoyed PvP but there were like no rewards so I never did it much. But like DW said, I hope there's better rewards but nothing you have to do to get a amazing piece.

As much as I enjoy the aspect of Aion, and as much as I enjoy fucking with all of the idiots in /3 chat. It's not nearly worth the horde of morons that come with that part of the game. (Think of Pandetech, but x 500) Personally, I'm almost hoping the game does well, but not well enough that it attracts that kind of person. I was content with the - for the most part - intelligent and mature playerbase FFXI had. You can never avoid all of the idiots though.

If they do implement some sort of PvP, I'd rather it be limited like SE already stated. Just more balanced, no Blue mage shits on your face in three seconds kind of stuff, and with some sort of rewards system. I'd also like to see SE actually update/tweak the system every once in a while instead of putting the feature in and just letting it sit there for years untouched.

An annual cross server pvp tournament would be pretty cool as well. Ballista royale was a good concept, but SE just dropped it after the first year. I wish I had been high enough of level at the time to have been able to participate, but I was just nearing level 60.

LOL those Disseverment's hurt, dont they ;)

Yeah I agree, PvP is great and all, but for FF, its better they leave it on a voluntary basis, and limited to certain areas or arena's. Main issue is that of course, certain jobs are just power-houses in PvP and others just plain suck.

You know what I want? A dual type system. Idea from lolrunescape.. But you can challenge a person, anytime and any place. They can choose to accept or decline. If they accept the challenge, it brings up a screen, where you can choose bets for the fight. A stake, it can be money, items, anything tradable. Then you fight and the winner gains the bet, the loser is warped all the way back to his home country. You don't have to make a bet either, can just be a fight. Sometimes there would be a lot of competition at a fishing spot so I would dual people, and when I beat them they would be sent home. Giving me more chances at catchin those fish. Could apply to mining and such for ffxiv, I think it would work. Plus it was my best method of making money in that game.

Only down side I see to that Ice is that it'd get annoying if random people just came up to you and tried to PvP all the time. So everytime a thing would come up "Icewolf wants to dual! Accept or Decline."

I think the best way to do it for the PvE focused game this will be is more of race or wave defence or even a Enfo's type of game.

For those unfamiliar with that warcraft 3 mod 2 teams would be unable to touch eachother except with limited spells and the goal is to survive waves of monsters.

This way they don't need to worry about how well a white mage is going to do against a thief and such.

most games with that type of system have an option to automatically decline duel request without ever notifying you.

I was thinking that, but then so many people probably won't use it at all. I kinda like the way FFXI already had it, just with greater rewards but not anything so great that you have to PvP to make your job better. Maybe even make bets and stuff also. Also make a greater appeal to linkshell battles also.

Linkshell battles is what I always wanted the most. People talk shit about their shell being better than another, but what is considered better? You're better because you claim more? Not at all, I've beaten a adaberk drk with top notch shit when my drk was mediocre, and I didn't lose a single hp doing it (with a drain to kill). You're gear means shit against skillz, but I could never show it. Cause no one would do linkshell vs linkshell.

Yeah, that's the way Aion's dueling system is set up. When you right click the person's name the "Request Duel" option is greyed out if they have the option for duels turned off. I don't mind a quick spar every now and again, and wouldn't mind that option being in FFXIV at all. Majority of the time, real players that you can never really predict 100% of the moves they plan on using on you are more fun to fight than the computers that you are able to, and make for better challenges anyways.
