Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

Does the release for other countries matter anymore? I thought that they got rid of that region bound crap for games.

Only the PS3 is region unlocked, which is why I'm gonna import FFXIII day one, but I'm still buying the English version anyway because at this time, I don't understand much of the Japanese language.

You have way too much money.

I could never never play a game in just Japanese. I never play a RPG strictly for the battle system. I like story. It would frustrate the hell out of me.

I'm with Anglis...If I don't understand it then I'd find it a waste of time, if they implement something like English subs, then maybe it'd be good and worth the import but even then it all depends if I want to read stuff instead of admire the cutscene etc etc.

Tough luck for the 360 crowd, they won't get dual languages:

During IGN's Final Fantasy Reader Q&A FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase was questioned on the likelihood of a Japanese voice-over in the English version of Final Fantasy XIII, and states that it would be a possibility thanks to the PS3's Blu-Ray disc, but "probably not" possible on Xbox 360 thanks to the good old DVD.

Obviously, when we talk about XIII it's for PS3 and Xbox 360 with PS3 being on Blu ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not. At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?

Yes, there certainly are, but this statement is quite different to the "same content on more discs" comment they made at the E3 announcement and if another voice track is out of the question due to size, is this a sign that there are DVD constraints already? Surely a second voice-over can be crammed into it somewhere? Lost Odyssey managed it.

You mean tough luck for the weaboos. The vast majority won't/don't care. After all, most weeaboos own PS3s because they're weeaboos. Oh boy, missing out on high pitched voices, please Square-Enix, find another way!

Way to stereotype the PS3 userbase >_> I could do the same for the 360, but I won't. It's incredibly childish to stereotype the PS3 userbase for having a Japanese language track because the format it supports allows for extra space!

Learn to read. I didn't stereotype PS3 owners. I said most weeaboos own PS3s because they're weeaboos(GLORIOUS NIPPON, etc, etc.) Not most PS3 owners own PS3s because they're weeaboos. And the only people who would be impacted about the inclusion/loss of the Japanese audio track are the weeaboos. I'm sure the majority of PS3 owners that aren't weeaboos won't even touch the Japanese audio option, outside of a "I wonder what this character sounds like" impulse.

Japanese audio wouldn't exactly be the selling point of the game for me...

I'd much rather have it in English to be honest, saves reading a bunch of text....

Seriously now, Gerry. Your voice is deliciously British and I enjoy it thoroughly. But stop with the fanboy bullshit. Your latest post is just another "durr hurr xbros don't get this", when it's really just something so minuscule most purchasers won't really care. I don't buy games so I can listen to audio tracks not in one of my speaking languages. It'd be a nice bonus if I wanted to play through the game again, but it hardly, hardly, is a deciding point between which version is better.
Stop it.

lol I'll get FF13 for PS3 but I would be perfectly ok without the dual languages. I doubt I'll ever even put it to use.

Ok, so I read it wrong, my mistake, I apologise. In any case, I wasn't making a statement that the Japanese language track was a selling point, I'm basically saying that the 360 users are way out of luck due to storage issues, so they are basically getting a less than complete package, which, in this day and age of gaming, dual audio is pretty much a standard when releasing games from Japan over in the US or EU. The only 360 games I know of that had dual audio for English and Japanese, were Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

What MS actually set at the beginning of this generation of consoles in terms of audio, developers never followed through on 360 because they sure don't want to pay extra royalties for more discs for dual audio, and have ultimately suffered for it, for example, Star Ocean The Last Hope, the dialogue is awful! The reason why dual audio is available nowadays is not due to weeaboos, it's due to preference of the person playing it, and to ultimately avoid badly acted dubbing.

That said however, I apologise for misunderstanding you.

Gerry read the article you posted. Someone from SE is stating they MAY NOT include Jp voice overs in the 360 version. They say it MAY be because they dont have space on a dvd.

The actual site you took the article from seems to feel different then SE does though.. "Surely a second voice-over can be crammed into it somewhere? Lost Odyssey managed it." That sound to me like the site posting this is calling BS on SE.

How about this... They dont feel the need to include the JP voice overs for the 360 version because that version is only being released in the US. That makes a hell of a lot more sense to me then their excuse about a lack of space on DVD.

As the article you posted states themselves... Lost Odyssey did it.. Maybe SE needs to learn how to manage it.

Also, it's not like they can't release it as a DLC somewhere down the line.
Just sayin'.

You're may be right. But the only people who would get butthurt over not having it are the weeaboos. Everyone else won't really care so much about it to the point they feel "they're missing out." It's also not a "less than complete package" because it affects gameplay as much as the box art does(Spoiler: Not at all.) By your logic, we Americans get ripped off because our PC games only come with an English installation most of the time, but in Europe, you get English, French, Spanish, German, Czech, etc.

Its usually only English, French, Spanish, Italian and German. Unless its a game aimed towards younger people, in which case they're released in Swedish, Finnish, Czech etc.
