Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

Yea can't say I'm impressed atm.. only put in like an hour n a half, and it's pretty and all, but there's no depth. And the script these people have to read is f*cking atrocious - I remember the guy character saying "We're the heroes! Lets be heroes" or something to that effect and I'm just thinking this is really stupid!

You don't even have the real battle system 1.5 hrs in. Stick with it, the battle system rocks.

And as for the script, what george said. FFs have always been cheesy, not sure why people expect classic literature out of them. I enjoy the dialogue a lot. It's not too heavy even though the story itself is pretty serious.

What boss? What's his name?

I think the first war that
Spoiler:

Vanille and Fang took part in, and the story behind how they completed their focus

would be awesome to play through.

I just clicked on your spoiler by accident and now shit seems clear to me. ; ; My bad.

I, Garland, will knock you all down!

Guy speak beaver.

This guy are sick.

You spoony bard!

That lobster just got served!
With cheese biscuits and mashed potatoes!

Enough expository banter. It's time we fight like men. And ladies. And ladies who dress like men. For Gilgamesh...IT'S MORPHING TIME!

This is sickening! You sound like chapters from a self-help booklet! Prepare yourselves!

Great, I have one chicken-wuss and one kid who just entered puberty in my team!

I'm Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca!

Son of a submariner!

Anyways, that's just who Snow is, it's an anime cliche, but that's the way SE presented him in the game. He's that way in the Japanese version too, always the Hero.
You may not agree with it, but I like it.

Well I made it to Gran Pulse last night and all I've gotta say is that my opinion has changed. This game is pretty sweet. Probably 3 or 4 as far as the Final fantasy series goes.

This game is amazing, I didn't think I would buy this game, just didn't even care to follow it or anything as it was released. But I bought it being bored the other day, and now in Gran Pulse I am addicted and actually enjoying grinding for once in a game. Soo many levels and upgrades to do its ridiculous, but that's why I love ffxi right?

I don't know if anyone has posted info like this before. But I learned this and it was very helpful to me for weapon/acc upgrades.

You can raise your multiplier easily by buying 36 of the 80 gil items in the creature shop. Things like Sturdy Bone, Barbed Tail and Vibrant Ooze. To get to the 3x multiplier the most effectively, use them in this order. 4 > 4 > 7 > 3 > 18. Now if you have plenty of money and don't care about the most effective way to use low exp items, then just throw all 36 on at once and it will jump you straight to 3x multiplier.

There are different symbols for organic type items and man made. Basically things like bones, tails, etc are used specifically for boosting the upgrade multiplier, and the man made things like metals are used AFTER you have a 3x multiplier. Don't waste your good materials before having a 3x, it's not hard to get.

I believe the best exp for your money are turbojets, which you can find in the garage shop. So once you have a x3 buy a good amount of these and use them on that item. There are things that give much more exp in a single item, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better gil/exp. And of course you will find good items during the story line and from missions as well. When you do use the big exp items, they will give you full exp for however many you used, but it will decrease your multiplier. So what i do when that happens is use organic items two at a time until it's at x3 again, just to use them most efficiently.

Basically for an idea of what each upgrade costs, it's from lvl 1 to cap is 50,000 exp, intermediate to cap is 450,000 exp, and ultimate weapons are 1,500,000 exp to cap.

The best EXP giving components are: (all EXP boosts are averages)
Ultracompact Reactor - EXP 40,000, Buy Price 50,000
Particle Accelerator - EXP 4,800, Buy Price 10,000
Tesla Turbine - EXP 823, Buy Price 1,800
Super Charger - EXP 774, Buy Price 1,600
Turbojet - EXP 768, Buy Price 1,600

To sum it all up:
1.) Choose an weapon / accessory to upgrade.
2.) Use 36 sturdy Bones, barbed Tails or vibrant ooze to get a x3 multiplier.
3.) Use your turbojets or other metal materials for a big exp jump.
4.) Use your sturdy bones again (I do 2 at a time) to get back to x3, unless it dropped all the way down, in that case 4 > 4 > 7 > 3 > 18 order.
5.) Use transforming items to upgrade the item.
6.) Rinse and repeat until you're finished.

You can level every weapon in the game to 2nd tier cap, and then choose the one you like best to fully upgrade to omega weapon (that's what lightnings is called anyway). So don't worry if you think you are leveling a less effective weapon.

also to note, the base weapon that you choose to upgrade effects the ultimate version..... all of lightnings gunblades can become Omega weapon, but the stat progression of omega weapon is influenced by the gunblade you start with.....

In lightnings case the gunblade that offers the best progression is Organyx

Thats true, but each weapon has different ability boost/reductions as well. Organyx essentially adds slow to you. I think the best weapons to upgrade are Lionheart and Axis blade. Neither has the biggest stat boosts but both have really nice abilities.

aww those are missing the little notes below them that help make educated decisions.

I knew about the natural vs mechanical exp parts thing, so I've just been sticking with that.
I have Lightning with a magical-based weapon since she's on Ravager most of the time. But Fang man... I don't even have to try, and her STR just shoots through the roof.

I have the opposite with lightning. Just got to ch 7 and shes sitting on 700 str D: I upgraded her weapons/earrings a lot. My lightning is a beast. Took fang outta the party cuz she cant do Ravager yet because Lightning on COM destroys things.

Also heres a website with weapon upgrade info:

I'm just plain stuck. I have multiple paradigms set up, I have tried Lightning on Rev, Snow on Com, and Van on Med. Switched with an aggression Para with Lightning on Com, Snow on Com & Van on Rev to try for a stagger.

Then I said screw the stagger, I would like to just live past this Crystal Rain spell. Oh the boss, #2, in Lake Bresha, Manawar Machine I believe. Anyway, I have gone as far as to set up a Para that has Lightning on Rev, Snow on SENT and Van on Med while still spamming potions to assist Van and I STILL get bombed by Crystal Rain. UGH

I feel like a tard man. I have watched this fight on Youtube, researched all kinds and no matter what Paradigm set-up and swap I try is working for me.

Have you tried RAV, RAV, COM for attacking and then just switch to MED, MED, SEN for when you need healing? Alternating back and forth. The first paradigm setup you have puts a MED on fulltime, which you should really only switch to a MED character when you need it. The second one has two COM characters which you only really need one of those to keep your chain bar from depleting fast. Another thing you could do is use RAV, RAV, COM until the chain bar is about 50-70% then switch to a RAV, RAV, RAV paradigm to spike it that last 50-30%.

I can't remember fighting that boss so hopefully that helps.

Also using Libra will help your AI party members target its weakness (if you aren't doing that already).

Thanks for the link Tyrath. Been waiting for one to pop up on gamefaqs, but then just said screw it lol.

Hey I'm trying to upgrade snow's power circle to second tier and I need a Hihiirokane. But have no idea where to get this, anyone know?

It's Scarletite in the English translation, you can buy it from the Motherlode shop for 100,000 gil, not sure what chapter they get that item in.

Honestly? I love this game, I'm having a blast with it. I'm at the final chapter (13) right now, and let me just say right now, that stage 9 Crystarium costs a minimum of 10,000 per upgrade.

I like the game. It's fast paced, you gotta think really fast when to paradigm shift in mid battle, and the battles toward the end get increasingly harder.

I can't wait to finish the game completely.

Off to the GoW3 midnight now!

Im gonna grab GoW3 tomorrow but I don't think I'll be touching that for quite a while. Just got to gran pulse, the cie'th missions are gonna keep me busy for a while.
