Upgrade the weapons you start out with if you want to. Those are most balanced in STR/MAG, which is especially helpful if a character has roles that use both stats a lot like Lightning and Sazh.

So uh....anyone remember that train boss that does Wreaking ball and steam cleaner? I found a side boss like that and it fucking kicks my ass. It can two shot my party with melee attacks or one shot em with Wreaking ball. The fuck man, the fuck. It has like 1million hp too.

If it's the same one I'm thinking of I was able to take him... wasn't able to even 1 star him, but I beat him. I also spent an entire day grinding on cactaurs and behemoth kings before moving on with the story from the archylte steppe.

Um just fought Fang's Eidolith, won't name it for people who haven't gotten that far.

All I'll say is when you see the scene starting be ready to bring your A game when the fight starts lol.

EDIT: And Grand Pulse finally WOOT. How long should I stay here before I go on with the storyline?

You could stay for a good while, but there will be a decent amount you cant handle till you beat the game. So what I did was capped my crystarium for each persons main job then continued. Also you CAN get the growth egg (x2 CP) before beating the game, it is an uber bitch to do but you can. When you get to the end area of the game it allows you to warp from there to gran pulse or to cocoon, and same thing once you beat the game, so don't worry about not being able to come back.

That would be a juggernaut lol, and it's no boss, just a normal enemy. What I do to handle these is cancel set between rav/rav/rav > rav/rav/rav, and when hp starts going down ill swap to com/med/med (com will hold the chain you've been working on with your rav's) then switch back to the rav canceling. Once you stagger him don't switch to com/com/rav like you usually would on enemy's. This guy has a low stagger like 300%, so stay with your rav canceling until he is at 700-800%, this will allow your com's to do a shitload more, if you don't do this, you'll have to stagger him a second time, which is no fun. Once he's at the high % whip out the com/com/com or com/com/rav to own him.

I would recommend switching to com/rav/syn at the start. Barfire and Protect helps a lot, and makes it so that you won't have to heal a single time as he barely does any damage to you anymore.

Does Sazh get any defensive buffs like protect, shell, and veil at some point later in the game? I can't get enough of his haste, bravery, faith, and en-lspells but I wish he at least had protect.

Yeah he will get all, but hope eventually gets haste also, which makes him a better option than Sazh cause he is a magic powerhouse.

Yeah that's the only reason I don't use him tbh.

So I learned a pretty good way to grind/farm/get final upgrade items all at once. Probably best to beat the game before doing this. And I'm sure someone has some other way, I'm not saying this is the best.

Requirements:

1.) Death spell for Vanille (she is the only person that can learn it)
2.) Having Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain and Archylte - Central Expanse teleports unlocked.
3.) Being decently leveled in crystarium, could probably handle with jobs at lvl 4.
4.) Growth egg and the two item catalogs (basically TH for ff13, also these are optional but recommended)
5.) Belladonna Wand / Morbol Wand for higher chance of death (also optional)

Basically you will alternate between grinding on the king behe / huge dog fighting and killing adamantoise with the teleports. You can find the king behe/dog in Archylte Steppe, you will run by them just doing the main story, while your running towards cocoon in the sky, headed to Taeijin's Tower. These two are literally 20 feet away from the Northern highplain teleport. So just teleporting there you will see them.

Basically for this fight I use com/com/syn. When you engage these two, you will always 100% of the time get a preemptive strike, no matter how you approach them. And on top of that they both start at half hp. Your syn will haste the pt then other buffs (when I first started here I played sazh myself so I could choose what buffs took priority). One com will attack the behe and the other will attack the dog, keeping both stagger meters high, so they are very easy to take down. When you first start here the behe will most likely stand up and take a bit longer, but still easy because once the dog is dead you can stagger him. It took me about 35-40 seconds to kill the two when I first came here, after a good amount of grinding I can kill the two in 7 seconds. They give 6600 exp, 13200 with growth egg. Once you kill them run down the path by the teleport till their spawn is out of sight on the mini-map, then come back and they will be back. With 10 second kills and growth egg you can make near 1mil an hour here.

And to deal with the Adamantoise, I make my party sab/sab/sab and cancel set with another sab/sab/sab set. Engaged the adamantoise (the huge turtle with horns, not the smaller guys) then immediately summon with Vanille. The summon knocks him on his ass then just start spamming death until it sticks. Helps to have the Belladonna Wand (or 2nd tier Morbol Wand) to land death, but it's not needed. It really feels like having x3 sab in pt increases deaths chance, and also debuffs like imperial and deshell. But I have no way to prove that, so opinion. When your summon goes away the other sabs will go to town with debuffs and the turtle will still be on the ground for a good while. Most the time death will stick before it stands up, sometimes it doesn't, take the death and retry, no biggy. Adamantoise give 40,000 CP and 80,000 CP with growth egg. They also drop plat ingot which sells for 150k, and the material needed for your ultimate weapons.

Now the reason I do these both at the same time is only because of the tp bar, adamantoise are a bitch without the summon to help knock it down, so I don't bother fighting them without it. So I kill one adamantoise, turn around and run to the central teleport, tele to northern, puts me right at my grinding spot. Kill until I had 3 tp bars, teleport back to central, grab choco and run towards cocoon in the sky, will run you right into a adamantoise, kill, run on foot back to tele. Northern tele again, exp for a decent while all the way up to 5 tp bar. And back to adamantoise. The teleports respawn the adamans, where as normally they dont respawn unless you zone.

Summary:
1.) Kill king behe/dog till 3 (or 5) tp bar is full.
2.) Tele to central, choco out to the adamantoise
3.) Run back to the tele and warp over to the grinding spot to refill tp.
4.) Rinse and repeat.

Ton of cp, gil, and ultimate weapon upgrade items.

having 3 x SAB would make landing death easier if they all had role level. the role level crystal for SAB's makes them more likely to land debuffs and makes it more likely everyone else in the party lands Debuffs. the chance for a character at role level 5 to land a debuff is x 1.4 for self and x 1.12. All role levels do special hidden things like that.

So anyone tried putting the battle system on slow? :P I haven't yet (cause I just wanna get to Gran Pulse first) but I wonder if it's slow enough to let you micromanage every ability and whatnot.

Never tried slow, why would you >.>

anyone know any good places to farm money items?

Micromanage every ability, as in what?
I already do that in normal battle speed, since you only control the leader, it's not hard..
Select abilities/techs/paradigm shift, etc.

Anyways, got to Gran Pulse earlier, beautiful place, went treasure hunting, did the first 2 missions also.
Quite a bit treasures I can't get yet as I'm not strong enough to fight the enemies blocking them, I shall be back though.
I was fighting a Rangda and he summoned a Amphisbaena, at my strength that thing was a bitch, tooth and nail battle that took my leader down to red quite a few times, even with Fang as Sentinel, fun fun.

As in, instead of hitting auto-cure, auto-attack, auto-whatever :P and I've wanted to try but at my point in the game doing it sometimes leads me to getting hurt fast. hehe or not get 5 stars

This may be a dumb question, but what are the green circles in Gran Pulse and why can't I use them?

Playing on slow doesn't adjust target time for slower battle.
Battles don't go as fast, you don't reach target time, usually won't reach 5 stars.
Normal speed is the best for 5 stars.

And I haven't used those auto-abilities since I got Paradigm Shift, and have 5 starred many enemies/bosses on normal speed.

And Aaleel, the yellow circles you mean, on the ground?
They're chocobo jump spots which will lead to new areas/treasures, when you do the mission that unlocks the ability to ride them, which I think is Mission 14.
