'Final Fantasy should come to Xbox 360', says Sakaguchi

The only one who knows exactly how many have died is Microsoft and they refuse to give an honest answer.

This poll was taken out of ~2000 people. I think that's enough to say it probably represents the total population within 8% of error. That's a very generous leeway I'm giving because it's probably closer to within %2.

You can say 2000 isn't enough to get an accurate average but honestly I understand statistics enough to say differently. If the failure rate was even 1 in 4 I'd call that abysmal this early in the cycle so right now I'd call it an epidemic.

As far as I'm concerned, an Xbox 360 costs whatever base price + the longest warranty you can buy.

Where have they said "we're going to say xxx amount of 360's have failed, and regardless of the actual number, that's what we're sticking with." They quoted a number, and said that they're not taking the blame for systems failing due to an add-on that a lot of people bought; that's reasonable and it doesn't show a flaw in the system but rather the combination of the items. Their numbers could be perfectly accurate; your poll is such a pathetic sample that you can't draw anything that's accurate.

With 60% failure on a sample of 2000, it's too small of a sample size to believe that the Microsoft statement of 4% failure is bullshit?

Why don't you just stick your fingers in your ears and yell, "lalala" instead of coming here with that joke of a response?

A sample size of 2,000 out of a population of about 10,000,000 (ish) is NOT a representative sample.

Haven't you people ever taken a statistics class? It doesn't matter how big the population is as long as your test group is large enough. Neilson uses a sample of 1500 people to determine the ratings for the entire country.

You should check this out before you run to always blame the customer in the event of a system malfunction. Here's a video of an expert explaining why Xbox 360 can sometimes destroy discs, complete with Microsoft telling this kid it was his fault his Xbox is fucked up and then the expert opening it up and showing how the machine itself was defective.

They also take a random sampling, which the poll you're quoting is not.

I'll agree their failure numbers are most likely crap, but it's no where near 60% or it would be MAJOR gaming news. Yes, they're understating their failures, but Sony is overstating their success, so I'd say it balances out.

I don't doubt that microsoft would have some faulty systems (I don't know how many are) and that they'd deny stuff.. Microsoft denies a lot. I will say that at least the time my sony was broken, even though it was my fault, sony fixed it for free XD (even though it was over the warranty supposedly).

Edit: just to clarify, that's my personal experience. But, being that sony's a business I might believe they are capable of such though it's been stated that Japanese business standards are different than US's and Sony is a Japanese company.. so there's a bit more doubt that they'd be the same (but I don't deny it's possibility).

Sony isn't claiming more sales than they have.

Except Jack Tretton dismissing claims that there are PS3's just collecting dust in areas, and making a statement that he'd pay $1200 for every one just standing unsold. And thats the President of SCEA. Pretty high up on the Chain-o-command.

He wasn't lying about any numbers though. going out and saying "we have a 4% defective rate" on the Xbox 360 is really bad."

Saying you've completely sold out of every unit shipped is lying about sales figures. Which is what he did before denying that there were PS3s on shelves when it was brought to his attention by an interviewer.

Back on topic, 135,000 copies of Blue Dragon sold in one month, when theres only 300,000 Xbox 360s in Japan is really good. Thats a 45% saturation.

Seemed to me like an overly optimistic executive to me. They publish honest sales numbers though. You can find out weekly exactly how many PS3s have been sold, and you can find out how many have been shipped, so you can do the math yourself.

We don't know for sure how many Xbox 360s have died. Only Microsoft knows and they say 4%. If it really is 60% then don't you think those people who bought an Xbox 360, many games and it died were fucked over?

I don't hear anyone giving a shit about the huge hardware defect problem, the blatant lies because they'd rather rant about some Sony idiot who shouldn't have been allowed the microphone anyway.

What if it really is 4%? Those with nothing to complain about usually don't say anything.

For the last time, it's not 60% failure rate. It's 60% of that 0.00025% of the the total population that was sampled, a sample that's not random at all. You're honestly an idiot for still thinking there's a 60% failure rate in the 360 at this point.

The reason why you're not hearing about a huge hardware defect problem, is because it doesn't fucking exist. Really, it should be obvious that if there was a failure rate anywhere near that large, it would be major news; hell Microsoft's stock would have dropped over such an announcement. Your sample is biased, your results are skewed; the whole poll is wildly inaccurate so stop acting like it's gospel already. You're not getting even remotely accurate numbers, and yet you're still acting like you're correct. You're listening to the vocal minority whose actual numbers are incredibly minuscule.

Since you seem to think that polls are a great source, how about this one. Over 90% don't want a PS3 for various reasons; hell it's an even less biased and more random sampling that's 49 times larger than the poll you're quoting. Obviously that means the PS3 will massively fail because so many people don't want it for whatever reason.

Bad understanding of stats again.

If 90% of people in the world don't want a PS3 then 650 million still do. =p

Not that I think it's that high obviously. And christ... quit talking about the sample size versus the overall size.

You know NOTHING ABOUT STATISTICS! As numbers of a sample size increase, their margin of error lowers, it has nothing to do with how many total Xbox 360s there are.

1500 is going to produce the same range of error if there were 500,000 Xbox's out there, 5 million or 50 million. A 1500 sample of 10 million Xbox's is better than a 1000 sample of a billion xboxes. If you don't understand this basic concept, shut the fuck up and go to school.

It is however... not a completely random sample. It is a sample of xbox owners who visit that particular website. If MS released the real numbers people doing their own polls wouldn't be needed.

If 60% of the 360's in the world failed, then that still means 2.5 billion are still working; see what I did there?

Wow, you showed that polls are often inaccurate, congrats for joining the conversation 2 days ago; now try applying that to the poll that you seem to think is perfectly accurate and representative.

As the sample size increases, the margin of error is lower, therefore it's accuracy has increased. A truly perfect poll would ask everyone and would be 100% accurate. Your poll is inaccurate, it's blatantly obvious that it's inaccurate; it's no more accurate than the one that I listed. You can't prove that everyone who voted in that poll owned a 360 or that they didn't vote multiple times; you're basing your entire argument on a highly subjective and inaccurate test. I've already explained how it's obviously not true, you're just ignoring it. Obviously 1500 people out of 10 million is better than 1000 out of 1 billion; but that's because it's an even smaller sample, moron. My poll was using a larger sample number, which was a larger percentage of the total population; therefore it was more accurate.

I'm sure Microsoft isn't releasing the real numbers, but it's 8% at the very most, worst-case scenario. Anything higher and there would be major news over it. If the poll was accurate in the slightest, you would see 6 million 360's have been bricked, the totals are no where near that much, so obviously the poll is wrong.

So they sold a 360 to every person on the planet?

Why not, according to Firestreak, 10% of the people in the world bought a PS3. If he can misrepresent the results, I don't see why I can't do the same thing.
