'Final Fantasy should come to Xbox 360', says Sakaguchi

That's not what I am talking about. Sony released a patch that killed their PS3s. The only thing I mixed up was numbers.

and the total lack of any news on this is of course a coverup? I cant find anything on this using google, or searching any gaming websites like 1up, gamespot, or even GameFaqs

GTA4 was announced to be multiplatform before the PS3 ever launched. It's not exclusive because they tried to call Sony to negotiate an exclusivity deal and had to deal with Sony-USA. Sony-USA had to talk to Crazy Ken in Japan since you can't do ANYTHING without going through Sony Japan. Crazy Ken waited too long to seal the deal and Microsoft negotiated a multiplatform deal.

It was also mentioned, In this very thread somewhere near the top, in an interview that a reason was simply, there are not enough PS3's in homes for the game to reach its targeted market.

Sony Japan is Sony. All other branches of Sony have essentially no power.

But you better damn well believe they know inside and out what is going down. It's their business to know. Probably the only things they don't know, is each others personal lives.

I said Sony France not Sony. Isn't this what this has all been about?

Doesn't matter. To you, none of Sony knew what SE was up to.

It's relevant that Xbox declares third party games that could easily port of to be exclusives and Sony doesn't mark anything as an exclusive. If you want to ask if a third party game is exclusive to PS3, ask the publisher. It's better than declaring everything is an exclusive and lying to everyone... then again, maybe lying is better business sense.

But how is it relevant to our conversation? It's not. So they mark games Xbox only, like Nintendo, and Sony probably sees it better to save the ink money. Doesn't really mean anything in the first place much less to what we were jabbering about.

It means that there's no legal reason that it can't be ported... yet. For the record, they've been making a 360 port of DMC4 since the start according to Capcom.

What he said meant, just as it read. The exclusivity of FF 13 to the PS3 is in discussion. Will it be ported? Who knows but it isn't going down like 7, 8, 9, 10, X-2, and 12 went down. Those being ported were out of the question and for good reason. Now, some where eventually ported to PC but so much later that the exclusiveness of the games had done their job. I don't really think, considering PC sales of the games, you could call the ports sucessful anyway.

To me based on the number of PS3's on shelves and the number in homes, I don't see any other way for Square to make a buck with this "giant", because no doubt it's expensive to make, unless they go multi-platform. This of course is just my opinion and why I believe it will be ported. I really could care less about the game. As far as I'm concerned that series should have died long ago. Hopefully, over at Mistwalker, Ol' Boy can rejuvinize his RPG perspective for us with a fresh start.

By the way, thanks for not bullshitting me again. I like this conversation and where it could go however, the bump in the middle was killing any sense of a real discussion to re-occur.

MGS4 and FFXIII will sell consoles, to believe otherwise is foolish, and to believe that SE doesn't know this is foolish as well. They don't need to worry about numbers as badly, because they know the console will move if thier game is on it. And by the time XIII comes out, the core unit will be 399USD, and no longer such a huge expendature of cash.

And to respond to the "buy a 450$ console for one game?" retort, no, obviously not. But, XIII will be enough to push the PS3 over the top of the slump its in for games. Some say Motorstorm isnt worth buying the console for, nor is Resistance or any of the other games. But when you put them with big games like MGS or FF, then its a good idea. And for anyone who doesn't have a 360, you add all the cross platforms to the mix too.

Nah, the Fall update was in October for the 360 when the PS3 wasn't out yet. That update definitely did screw up some 360s, but most were easy fixes.

I never said it was a coverup. It did happen.

Yes, with no exclusive deal made and Microsoft calling them up asking for GTA4 to come to 360 every day while Sony was sitting on their ass because they had to go through Sony Japan to make the deal. Once an exclusive deal is made... there's no port. With GTA4 as an exclusive, there'd be more PS3s and less Xbox 360s sold in the US. More install base, more cash. Games sell the systems then there are systems to buy the games.

Sony is Japanese oriented, they fucked up with western devs because they're so segmented. That's why PS3 lost the exclusive(more likely timed exclusive). Square is not the same... believe me they are going to lock down that exclusive deal.

But you better damn well believe they know inside and out what is going down. It's their business to know. Probably the only things they don't know, is each others personal lives.

We can speculate but I don't see Sony France as having any in depth knowledge about what's going on behind closed doors in Japan. I didn't say it was a game company firing on all cylinders, but if they were running well, we'd have GTA4 as PS3 only which is instant justification for PS3. Square on the other hand deals with Sony-Japan directly.

I'm sure Phil Harrison knows what's up.

It's relevant because you're basing a likely port based on that comment... and as a general rule I don't see Sony running around declaring anything exclusive, even their first and second party games that are obviously going nowhere. I don't see Nintendo doing that shit either.

How many copies do you think they need to sell to make profit? How many of the PS3 owners now do you think aren't looking to buy ff13?

Square is not the same... believe me they are going to lock down that exclusive deal.

It's not up to Square to entertain the idea to make their games console exclusive. It's up to the Console makers to do it. Exclusivity cuts out a market that your product would sell on. Console makers pay developers for Exclusives, not the otherway around. It would be rather retarded for a company to beg a console maker for exclusivity when they can make much more money going multi-platform.

Square on the other hand deals with Sony-Japan directly.

And Nintendo. And Microsoft. And they tell Square-Enix US, Square-Enix UK, and the other branches of whats going on.

SE just patented a new title: FINAL FANTASY Haeresis XIII, could this be the 360 version? I hope so because 3 titles for PS3 seem like too much.

Theres only 2 for PS3. The third is for cell phones.

But seriously, they need to stop with the 20 million 13s when the first one hasn't even come out yet.

It's funny cause the way Squaresoft basically bankrupted themselves was by massive over-extending.

To be fair, the first time it wasn't because of overextending, it was because their games genuinely sucked.

It was Sakaguchi the first time, Enix the second.

wait.. I thought the merger wasn't cause anything was going wrong but just to improve sales more or something.. (I didn't pay much attention). I thought they were still doing fine around that time period (which was around FFX wasn't it?)

No, it was during FFX-2's development when Squaresoft was hurting really badly financially.

FFX-2 was made because Square was running low on money and went down the cheapest route they could - re-using as many art and story assets as they could.

If the core unit does, in fact, drop to $399.99, you're right, it may sell a few consoles. With it at $600+, it has already sold to most of the FF and MGS fans out there. Of course there will be a few spares but I highly doubt notible numbers. However, I don't see the core dropping to $399.99. Hell, they're already out millions from the system alone to make it cheaper would be, crazy. Now, if they found a cheaper way to produce them, all of a sudden, that would be neat but whoops, how convinient after they already fucked you guys who spent a fortune. Sony shits on their supporters yet again. Do you not see how they play you just as much as you play their products?

The PS3 is going to need a hell of a lot more games than even listed as comming out to get out of its hole. It needed the exclusives it lost. It's going to be interesting to see exactly how they play themselves out of the whole. With the 360 carrying more exclusives than the PS3 even has releases, any sane not over the top person would choose the 360. It's like choosing between a PS1 and a Dreamcast back in the day. One is iffy and the other, while older, is solid. However, that's just my thoughts. We'll just have to sit back and watch.
