Final Fantasy XIV

The Final Fantasy XI team has already been multi-tasking on Final Fantasy XIV for several years now, so there is no reason to think they will suddenly drop the game now.
Is this why they went from bimonthly to trimonthly updates?

Final Fantasy XIV will also have a strong story backing up the gameplay. Like Final Fantasy XI, the story will be epic in scale, having the feel of a single-player title. Rich, full cut scenes will also become a staple of this title. When asked whether the game will feature voice acting for NPCs, the developers simply gave a nod and a wink and asked that we all "wait and see." Crystals will also be back with a role in the story, but again, players should expect to see them take a unique form this time around.

If this is a confirmation that NPC's in FFXIV will be voiced...

AWESOME!

This is awesome. It'll be great to hear some voice interaction from the NPC's if it's true.

Of course, the tradition in FF is to based around a Crystal of some sort. I believe it was 2 and 8 that weren't.

It would be nice to explore and discover a completly new game starting out at square one again, they need to give us more challenges in the game besides the endless exp grind and reward the people that put more interesting effort into the game than simple 24/7 leveling.

Players should feel they are getting something out of a new game no matter if they play one hour, ten or 24.

I'm interested in the new game, it could well be a reason to finally purchase a PS3 too. :)

so excited but its sooooooooo far away. I want constant news/updates from SE damit. Make a blog or something lol

It's not that far. It's next year. Just think of it as having to get through this summer and the fall and then wait for the holidays to finish. Once that's done, we'll be a couple months away!

Well a couple months is wishful thinking.

You know what? If they said they wanted the Beta to last longer then FFXI did which was 3-4 months, then it would be at least 5 months. 5 months before the game comes out. If we jumped ahead 5 months now, it would be November and 2010 and it would be around the corner... assuming the game isn't coming out 2010 Q4.

Bottom line is, I think we'll be trying FFXIV a lot sooner then we think.

They still gotta get FFXIII out the door, man.
I wouldn't expect playing the beta until at least Summer.

I love increase emphasis on solo and I love them trying to give us options with shorter time spans to play. If timing is so much more important too... I hope that means they'll put voice chat support into the game directly. Then I can forsake the keyboard entirely when I'm playing on PS3... On PS2 it was kind of annoying to put down the controller and reach to the keyboard to type... then go back to the controller over and over.

This is what I'm scared of playing on PS3 but I really want to play on a TV rather then a pc this time around.

Sony came out with a little keyboard thing that plugs in to the top of your controller. If the thing that Microsoft has that does the same job works for FF i can't imagine that won't.

If SE can bundle the PS3 keypad with XIV that'd be win. But what's to say that XIV won't use voice chat with the Bluetooth headsets?

MMO + wireless peripherals

Gonna be spending a lot of time tethered to that USB cord lol

I'll be needing a new headset too, my current wired one feels like someone's stabbing me in the ear if I'm wearing it for over an hour

If they are nixing chatboxes in favor of some form of public Vent/Skype/etc., I will not be playing XIV ever. The last thing I need to hear when I'm trying to unwind is some little kid trying to talk smack to me in their prepubescent voice. If I wanted to hear that, I'd play Halo 3

I hope they keep chat boxes. Sometimes, I don't wana listen to retards, myself included.

I don't think they'd ever make a MMO without chat boxes. Sure they might add in voice options, but I don't think that'd get rid of chat.

If they intend to do the same as last time around (and I'm pretty sure they said that they did), they might not bother with a voice chat function at all, since it's going to be a multi-language server anyway.
