Final Fantasy XIV

I really hope they find a perfect balance with solo and partying. I don't want to solo most of the time, and then only pty up for "big" fights...

Agree. Half the fun of FFXI was making new friends in parties.

The question in my head right now, though, is how the weapon skill/stat system will work, if your character's main way of getting stats won't be through exp. For example, will a BLM be forced to melee with his staff to get skill ups, or will killing a mob give "skill points" to the currently equipped weapon and thus improve a BLM's stats that way?

It does open up for specialization a lot. Say if all races start with equal stats, but are more efficient with certain weapons instead of initially starting with higher stats. If a Mithra for example is better with daggers, they could simply gain a larger stat increase bonus from daggers.

I wonder if magic will work the way weapons seem to work. Perhaps Thunder has its own category that needs to be leveled up in order to learn new magic and increase the damage from thunder spells. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could learn a special spell (Ultima, please SE xD) by having every element capped in level?

A lot of questions that needs to be answered. The question I'd like answered the most is if jobs will even have levels at all, or if everything in the game has a specific category that need to be leveled up by each job in order to equip better equipment, increase stats and improve magic.

Perhaps the level system will be similar to what's in FFXI right now. Whacking on an Easy Prey mob still gives skill ups, only gives them to you slower then a higher level mob do. Could be a similar way in this game, killing harder mobs which requires a party, gives you skill ups in each category faster, then killing smaller mobs solo would. Could be a lot like FFII, where everything had its own skill category and level independently depending on what you use in battle.

Given that they mentioned Warhammer Online as a source of inspiration, I wouldn't be surprised to see the open party system from that game. Or public quests.

1. Sells hardware. More hardware = more game sales = more games. FF14 is not going to be selling much hardware, period. It's also going to decrease the game purchases of those who play it for the most part. As far as I'm concerned it might even be a negative.
It sold me the hardware <:
What do we know about the setting and the story?
It takes place on an all-new Final Fantasy world known as "Eorzea." Though it does share some monsters and races from Final Fantasy XI, they're not direct representations and have been altered in multiple ways that make them unique to Eorzea. The similarities in races will allow experienced FFXI players to create a new FFXIV character that looks somewhat comparable.
Oh dear mother of christ, look out! If you're not careful, the horrid abomination that is BOBBLING BERNIE will appear and steal your soul!
Although I do hope there's at least a handful of throwback enemies to FFXI. Maybe a Taisai that drops a Refresh equivalent(it finally happened for real, guys!), or just an introductory boss monster similar to one in XI.
How does the leveling system work?
Square Enix is cagey about how characters advance, but it has confirmed with IGN that growth is not based on experience and that it will work on a different system entirely.
I know it's all purely speculation, but it could be an expanded version of skill points. Not that I mind.
How important are the weapons?
Weapons are very important and have a heavy influence on your character and how they succeed in the game world. Square Enix says to look closely at the official FFXIV logo for hints and hidden meanings about how the game will work.
This more than likely means that when you log on every day, you'll be in a sphere with many others. Once the capacity of the sphere reaches 100, then you'll all explode out of the sphere, weapons drawn, into a large-scale battle.
Uematsu only did a few tracks in FFXI, how much is he doing for XIV?
Square Enix revealed to IGN that Uematsu will be doing all the music for Final Fantasy XIV and that it will be composed in a range of different styles and genres.
I hope this means expansions as well. As I recall, Uematsu did a lot of the original XI music, then it slowly shifted over to that other guy.
Are Chocobos back?
Yes, they will return. But Square Enix has told IGN that it is looking at using them in a completely different way than they were used in Final Fantasy XI (where they were used as riding steeds).
Chocobo Knight <:

It'd be cool for big clans to be able to get an airship and use it as a mobile headquarters... and like... let me pilot it, but a blue chocobo gets caught in the propellers and we go into a nosedive! But I quickly cast ultima downward and the explosion sends up back upwards and then we balance out and start towards a more controlled crash... but some fat galka loses his grip and flies off the ship and some ugly bitch starts screamin in terror and when we hit ground so much dirt is kicked up that she takes some in the mouth. Then everyone yells at me and says I can't fly again.

Or portable inventories ;p Need to bring your chocobo everywhere to change job and open your inventory :P

that would be hotness on so many levels ~_~

I foresee chocobo fighting though! :P or even chocobo pets that help fight

Even more info:

The world will be called Hadeln, Eorzea is just the name of the continent.

They will add in some Science Fiction element like those in FF10 and FF13 on this game.

No selling in-game item planned.

There will be High Level job system.

Battle system will be focusing more on real time. Timing will be a very important factor.

Many Vs Many.. = Mob will be party to fight the player too. More cooperative mobs like the sin hunter sisters?

The chocobo was following them without a rider and with a large sack on its back.

EDIT: and why hasn't anyone asked about new races or character creation? All we know is that all the old faces will be possible.

I can't wait for the Beta, I WILL get in on that.

The thing I'm most excited about is getting a head start when I play the game. Imagine that FFXI was brand new again and it was coming. What would you do? I would go camp Leaping Lizzy and Valkrum Emperor to get their items so I don't have to battle everyone later on when more people pour into the game.

maybe you'll have to lvl up skills in a pty, and then once you're capped out for the lvl you can go solo if you want until you lvl up again

Even more of a reason to reduce latency.

There is another thing to note, FFXI was designed so that users on dial up would be able to play alongside broadband users without problems. This game is obviously being made just for broadband. Not anything new for MMOs but that's a limitation being taken off SE's back.

I'd let you fly again, that would be an epically funny sight.

If I were on that airship after the stunned bitch took some dirt in the mouth, I would laugh, and well ya... lul

I hope they make the boats and airships more interesting and fulfilling than just a small zone that slowly transports you to another zone that people will rarely use as time goes on and they become obsolete.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Sorry, even less interested in this game now.

Like I keep saying and I'm sure a lot of other people agree with me. Graphics are pointless if the support staff continues to have their heads up their asses.

up them, too.

I bet when they show gameplay vids, you'll be saying "omfg, I must have it" lol.

The only game that has made me say that was Half-Life 2, and I doubt any MMO will make me say that.
