Final Fantasy XIV

I wouldn't say going to bars and clubs is a waste of time though <:

Everyone loves to rip on their games support staff, while i dare you to go out there and find a game with anything much better. I've played ffxi, wow, age of conan and warhammer and it's all the same, you can't expect them to wait on you hand and foot. It's just the way it is, and in ffxiv it will be the same, the grass always seems greener on the otherside.

Also, back on a more fun topic, i hope there is a male mit this time around. Also if you look at the cover art or w/e it is, the girl on the left is just an elv it seems, not another race. Take a look and discuss! ^^

On the contrary, while SE's customer service isn't so hot, FFXI probably has one of the highest if not THE highest server uptime ratios in the industry.

Probably because SE rarely took the time to update or address any problems with the game. No need to bring the servers down when you're not trying to fix anything!

Every other game doesn't outsource and divide their support staffs abilities with an hierarchy based on regional location with Japanese CSRs sitting at the top and having the only real power. That's why people rip on FFXIs. Not because they're slow and can't do everything, but because unless you're Japanese, good luck getting a solution related to player disputes. The fact that they're once again doing mixed servers is just a preemptive death toll for the game.

... FFXI is the only MMO I've ever seen that's never had a single bug. There's rarely anything to fix in the game and yet they still do maintenance a couple of times a week.

no bugs doesn't mean there aren't problems :P

What problems? I was happy with the game at launch and had very few issues and all of those have been addressed a long time ago. My only issue with FFXI now is that it's too easy and too casual.

ATNM test begs to differ.

FFXI has plenty of bugs, otherwise SE wouldn't post "Current known issues" updates all the time. Brds were broken recently, elemental resists, plenty of bugs exist in FFXI all the time.

I've never personally seen one outside of the original Xmas event on our server. The giant tree couldn't be defeated because it would regen too fast.

I dont even have the issue with a monthly fee so telling me not to whine is not needed. I do understand people that do not want to pay for the sub par service SE gives on a MMO, that is all.

Hey i got another one for you... If you have such a problem with people complaining about the monthly fee why dont you stop reading their posts?

I am just trying to show you what the other side of your feelings are man. People can swing something like this to fit there needs always.

Ele i also played WoW for the same reason. I have tons of problem with that game as well and am no serious fan.. But.. I can play the game for 15 minutes or 4 hours and no matter what i will get something accomplished. If i logged onto FFXI right now i would need 2 hours just to set up whatever i wanted to accomplish in the next 6 hours or so lol..

I would love to play FFXIV in short frames with friends;;
You must have missed Level sync and the Fields of Valor additions to the game, its quite possible to in a short period of time solo or duo at any level without all the fuss of making a party or seeking, theres also campaign battle for those who want fun and exp with little preperation needed.

Quite frankly you get whatever you want out of this game if you are willing to look around for things to do they are available, I cant think of a better use of my $15 per month really and I'll miss this game when it does end, warts and all its been more fun than bad. :)

Oh i have used lvl sync and it was a good idea... at launch. The system was added when i was already a 4 year vet at the game.

Lvl sync does not cut down time at all... Its funny no matter what the game does it tends to mage over melee.

Now a mage can lvl sync just fine and use respectible time to lvl up. Maybe the Redmage would worry about this next part as well..

A melee on the other hand has skill it actually needs during a pt and if that skill is not up to par from fighting the right lvl mobs then the melee is borderline useless...

So yeah the melee saves time getting a pt faster with lvl sync but ends up wasting just as much if not more to go skill up their weapon.

Also i have a BLU75 so i know about solo xp.. The game is not ment for it or i wouldnt feel so dirty when i soloed/duoed as BLU.

Really? I'm pretty sure people still get stuck under Kazham, and see house moogles outside their houses(and other weird NPC client-side glitches.) Wasn't some ability also fairly busted with it's effects about a year ago?

Just because you experience very few issues doesn't mean mountains of other issues don't exist.

I just think it's strange that I never encounter a serious bug in more than six years of playing. Yeah, I've seen the moogle thing a couple of times which only occurred when there was an extreme lack of bandwidth from downloads. So it obviously was just something that was taking longer to process than normal. The game was extremely solid from the time I got it and SE always seemed to be quick about correcting any issues from what I could see. The game is huge with a fuckton of content so yeah, it's nearly impossible for it to be bug free but still. I've always been impressed. Compared to other MMOs FFXI is as good as I think I'll ever see.

I only got stuck one time in this game and that was back when I first started playing! I fell inside the pier in port windy by the fishing guild lol. I placed a GM call and was promptly removed lol

I think the problem is that almost every MMO in history could have easily gotten away with a CHEAPER monthly fee and still made profit.. hell.. WoW could do that with ease with the amount of players they have -_- it pisses me off the same way ISP providers charge for shit a lot more than they need to... bah...

This is undoubtedly true, but .... you're more or less grumbling about business and capitalism itself. It's nothing unique to MMORPGs or your ISP.

Yes, of course they could charge less and "still" make a profit. The only way to escape that accusation would be some imaginary universe in which they could get their math down to an impractically precise level, and actually charge just barely enough from each subscriber to make only a single cent (yes, $0.01) over the cost required to develop and maintain the game. The penny would be laughable, but it would technically be "profit."

Once they cross over to the realm of that extra cent ($0.02), then your complaint suddenly becomes applicable again. It's still, however, not nearly enough to justify the investment of time and money that was involved.

This, my friends, is where the notion of a profit margin comes in. I think most could agree that a "profit" of two cents would be laughable, and so .... they are GOING to charge more than they need to just draw in more money than they started with. That's just a given.

This brings up a fairly sticky point -- given that the the goal is going to be set to draw in a significantly higher amount of money than was initially invested, exactly where do you expect a business to draw the line, and say "that's enough profit"? o_O;

The simple truth is that they're aiming to maximize that profit margin, so .... they're going to try their level best to find a sweet "golden spot" in which the subscription fee is EXACTLY as high as they can get it before the increased cost loses them more subscribers than the fee can keep up with.

In other words, they're going to charge what people will pay, and not a dime less. That's them trying to widen that profit margin.

It's also business. I'm not defending it, nor am I bashing it, but ... it's the reality of the economic model we're living in. :(

no see, the thing is, they don't just go for trying to make a few extra bucks, I read that the ISPs make 90% profit.. 90 FUCKING PERCENT. THAT'S INSANE. That is, say they only need 10 bucks to pay for something and all of the services, they charge 100, making 90 fucking dollar profit... bah... They could charge so much less if that's true. I imagine a LOT of places are like that.. I just hate greed -_- and ya, I'm not a big fan of pure capitalism and business... if I ever ran one, I'd imagine I wouldn't be a millionaire because I'd just feel so bad if I were as greedy as them.

In a capitalistic market you vote with your dollar. If you don't like how the model works, don't vote. Simple as that. And next time you go buy some clothes, how about complain about the 200-500% markup on clothes at almost every clothes retailer.

Edit: Also, on your example, that's not a 90% profit, that's a 900% profit. If someone is selling a product or service that costs $10 to produce, then a 90% profile would be selling that product or service for $19, not $100.

If there's too much profit to be had, competition will follow. The only thing to complain about is huge markups bundled with government cooperation. As in, the taxpayers are fronting some expenses, ext, ext. I don't know of that going on with the ISPs. Certainly goes on with some sports franchises...

You know why? in Sweden, clothes are taxed at 25%. Thus, you add 250% to the price you buy it for. that is, if you buy something for $12, you resell it for about $29. That means you do a $10 profit.

Thing is, I don't think you really have an understanding of how a corporate business works Ele. Its not as simple as "zOMG! THEY MAKE A 90 BUCK PROFIT FROM 10 BUCKS! THOSE BASTARDS!". If we go back to the earlier example I made;

Say its a fairly small business and you have 3 employees. They each want $2000 in salary every month, that means you have to sell 600 clothes every month to cover employee costs. And then we didn't cover the following:
1) your own salary
2) power supply cost
3) phone cost
4) advertisement
5) internet
The list goes on.

As for the ISP company, while they might make a $90 bucks salary, I'm guessing you're not including the hefty employee costs, administrative costs etc. In order for a company to grow and be successfull, they can not break even, they have to make a profit. While they could lower their prices and break even to make you as a consumer pleased, that is not their goal.

Yes, you might consider it greedy, but in all honesty, think for a minute. Would you be willing to lower your own salary in order to lower the prices of everything for the company you work for, in order to make their customers pleased? Would you be willing to "break even" in your personal economy in order to do please your company's customers?

You can't go and say a company is greedy for wanting to make a profit, when you most likely do the very same thing yourself.

Also, if people wouldn't be willing to pay that much, they would lower the price. They don't simply raise the prices and say "Fuck the people that don't want to buy it!". They try to find a balance, and there is one. They might get more customers if they lower the prices, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll make more money than they otherwise would with less customers but higher prices. You can compare it to a -x^2 function.

I don't live in Sweden. I've never lived in Sweden. I've never even been to Sweden. Therefore, the 25% tax rate on clothing in Sweden is completely irrelevant to the 200-500% markup on retail clothing in the United States.
