Final Fantasy XIV

According to babbelfish, he's wearing a Bhuj, and is of the "Bachelor of war" (guessing Disciple of War), while the one in white is a Clothcrafter.

Interestingly, the MNK-one is apparently from "Bachelor of Art". Will Disciple of Art be yet another disciple like I suggested earlier, or is that the Japanese translation of "Disciple of the Hand"? And in that case, which craft might use hand-to-hand weapons?

/shrug, the Babelfish of the text below the pictures listed them (for me) as the "Grapple loyal retainer" for the MNK-type, and "Axe Technique loyal retainer" for the WAR-type.

Then we got different translations xD I got "Bachelor of arts ax: ax (Bhuj) equipment" on the axe guy and "Bachelor Fight:闘器(now bug) equipment" on the MNK guy, could combine the two maybe?

Would be Disciple of War: Axe Technique and Disciple of Arts: Grapple (H2H) Technique in that case?

Eitherway, your translation point more towards being a disciple of their weapon, rather than a disciple of a way of life (war, magi etc.)

Good God I can't wait. Being an elvaan again and my name will be Clocian. Let's go Fury, I want everyone in this game dammit, I miss everyone from quetz xD

This article is important for two reasons.

Hiromuchi Tanaka, producer on FF XIV says that the roadblock in bringing the massively multiplayer game to Xbox Live is due to Microsoft's "network policy." Since the PlayStation 3 and Windows PC versions allow for cross communication and cross platform play, it sounds like that feature is at issue.
But Tanaka says that Square Enix is trying to reach an agreement with Microsoft to allow Xbox 360 players to enjoy the game, saying the developer is still "considering" the platform.
For now, however, you're going to need either a "high spec" PC or a PS3 to get your fix. What nobody's getting on any platform, however, is built-in voice communication. Square's keeping Final Fantasy XIV strictly text chat only—Sage Sundi, global online producer, suggested that Skype and Ventrilo are still your best bets.
1: Microsoft's against cross-networking after allowing XI to do it? Wat?
2: Sage Sundi. May the gods have mercy.

Sage Sundi's interview's actually been one of the best so far...

Oh, the irony.

I hate Sage Sundi. Why is it after so many leaps and bounds, they still wanna keep FFXIV as text chat only, forcing people to resort to other methods for voice communication.......

Oh, wait, I remembered wrong... the video interview wasn't with sundi xD

Still, Sundi did have a decent interview. One of his better.

Honestly, any MMO that has Voice Chat baked in loses point with me. Especially one that has such a vast variety of languages existing within its established user base. I know other languages and reading it is always easier than hearing it. I also consider a keyboard to be a barrier that I call an "Idiot Filter". People are way more apt to blurt some asinine shit that they wouldn't take the time to type.

If it is baked in, then the sentiment among the user base would trend towards "You have to use voice chat. It is what the devs wanted." Half the group wouldn't type a single word and would ignore the chat log and those who don't like voice chat would miss many important things. Meh.

tl;dr

I don't like voice chat so I am a selfish bastard and don't want it in an official form in any MMO I am interested in.

The Xbox360 version of Final Fantasy XIV is delayed due to ongoing discussions between Square Enix and Microsoft. One of the reasons for the delay is talk about how Xbox Live is going to work with FFXIV.

ps - The one guy/gal playing the archer in the 1st vid sucks horribly! Or could it be that SE reduced the range? ; ;

Yeh I hope they don't put voice chat in. I'm good with vent and skype thanks lol.

New intervew up with lots of good information: http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=19378

Here's some highlights:

Also, multiple abilities you wish to perform in sequence can also be registered as macros.
In order for the character to perform commands specified by the player, one must first store up the Action Gauge. If you select a command before the gauge is ready, it will activate once the gauge fills up. There is also a Power Gauge, which can increase the strength and accuracy of one's techniques. The interviewer notes that even with the absence of Auto-Attack, the player could simply use the most powerful skill over and over again. However, Tanaka reveals that repetitive usage of one skill will cause the monster to start seeing through your actions, and it will become harder to land your attack. In other words, employing a variety of tactics is the best way to defeat a monster.

As the heart of Final Fantasy XIV, Guildleve will come in many different shapes and forms. The type of Guildleve one can accept will change based on the character. Also, new types of Guildleve will continuously be added through version updates. Tanaka promises that the development team is working hard to create a wealth of content in this area. There will be quests that take less than 30 minutes to complete, all the way up to epic missions that span a couple days. Guildleve is all about customizing the game to one's own style.

Fantastic find! What an informative interview. I have been waiting for a more interactive battle system for such a long time. The fact that you can change how you fight and not brainlessly auto-attack with an occasional JA or WS is awesome. I like that from what the article states, that we will indeed have more control over how a battle occurs. I think this should truly also show some more gap in skill between well geared players that just follow the mechanics of a game and players that I like to think are of a different seed. Players that try to truly figure out how to squeeze even 1 more DMG if possible out of their character simply for the sake of achieving personal goals like I did. I love that I will have many more different ways to time and DMG an enemy.

That was some good info. I was wondering why that fighter was spamming weapon skills left and right. It appears they won't work so well after some use...

ps - I hope they add bigger macro input lines this time.

I also don't like voice chat because I feel that it could take away from the fantasy of the game.

If your traveling through a deep scary dungeon or a wide open field I don't want to hear a baby crying in the back round. Take the few extra steps and hop on skype or vent.

Maybe its me being European, but I don't like integrated voice chat either. Rarely used team speak and ventrillo too.

Other then my time at the HNM scene, I lead EU shells. EU has a lot of different languages, and a lot of people whose first language was not english. If orders were to be said over vent in this case, there would be some people who do not understand or do not hear what is being said. If orders are given in chat, however, there's less chance of confusion, as most everyone in Europe at least can understand written English.

Well, let me rephrase - I wouldn't mind integrated voice chat, as I'm sure a lot of people want it , but I probably would not use it myself as I will likely stick to European events again.

I do like voice chat, but only for specific events and such. Voice chat through xbox live has made my statics nyzul runs easier since we can communicate faster than having to type it out on the screen, and have battle spam push it out and such. No voice chat wouldnt be good for constant use, but for the occasional event, it would be great, could care less about it breaking any sort of fantasy really since there isnt one >.>

I also wanted to note that I check back here daily for any news on a beta. I feel with all the info that we're constantly seeing we might be surprised with one sooner then we think.
