Flameboard

I'll do that I had brought this issue up with tenkax/arc in a pm months ago the first time this issue surfaced with the same thread(essentially) and compared it to the other forums and their laxness(a few months ago). I don't want to push my point but at the same time I don't want it to be ignored as back then both mods were well informed of the situation but not much happened progressively imo since it happened again.

Sorry thats just a silly argument which is not true.

Even from reading dino's post, what it boils down to is that it was too much work for the mods. Which is fine. But don't sugarcoat it :|

I personally liked reading comments on my posts. Don't care about the e-peen bar so much.

Actually, it is true. I really don't mind working my tail off to get certain items working on this board. I was going to try to and find a way to make it so users who didn't want to use the reputation system could opt out. Then I started to look through comments and since my last little upset note about the reputation system, nothing had changed.

It was a way for people to take jabs by calling them morons without repercussion and all the way up to attacking their religion. I see a nice one from you from a religious thread rating someone down with the tone of "It looks like your god didn't give you a sense of humor." To me, that's not so cool. With items like that, I decided that this board would be better off without that petty system in place. I personally think I made the right decision based off of the PMs that I received thanking me for ridding the boards of it.

Everyone was just jealous that qcdn loved me so much. People need to quit taking a forum about a video game so seriously. No one is going to give 1/8 of a fuck about FFXI in 10 years. No one is going to remember 95% of the people who post here in 10 years. Just relax and have fun, that's what I always do. I find the flameboard to be hilarious. The rateup system was fun. The mods/admins are doing all they can to make this site more interesting but people are too intent on ruining it all because FFXI and qcdn consume their lives.

I'll remember... And i'll care....

I recived a few petty rate downs from a certain person that shall remain nameless, he chose to insult me for no reason in my posts simply to make an attempt at annoying me, some of the comments were quite uncalled for and yet I decided after time just to ignore the clown since it was quite obvious he was getting a charge out of not only winding me up but others too with his rude petty comments.

Thing is I thought we all voted to keep the rep system awhile back, now its been simply removed with no warning or discussion? I dont speak for myself here but a great many members enjoyed seeing the rate ups people gave them, and the little messages they got that made them feel special.

Losing this feature may make some members less likely to frequent this place, the rate ups and messages gave people who dont normally communicate in game with everyone here a place to understand each other a bit better. I dare say that some rarely posted and were quite happy to just spread a few happy thoughts in a rate up or profile message. I realise the potentual for abuse too since some will always prefare spreading ill will and bad feelings in this manner.

Theres a lot of interesting and good posts to read in this forum and some are happy just to express themselfs by telling someone they did good that day, thats what the rating system should have been made for, not to show who is popular and who is loathed but to reward people for contributing to this place. Maybe people would post more if they saw what good posting habits brought about here.

Sorry but it was a fitting response to the comment he left me. I'd quote it but I can't remember the details and now I can't check. It didn't bother either of us, I moved on happily and I daresay he did too. Why does it bother you when there is no complaint from the user?

Edit: Like Rappa said, people need to stop treating this place like serious bizness.

If we really do lose users because we got rid of the reputation system, then they were really coming here for the wrong reason to begin with. The goal now for QCDN is to make it a board with a wealth of FFXI information as well as keep a nice community going here.

I could not agree with you more on this statement. The sad fact is though that the system was easily manipulated to rate up your friends to race and see who can get the moogle the fastest as well as use it to be able to leave flamebaits without repercussion.

It was a good comeback I'll give you that. To quote the rep comment
Guess God left out your family on the "make worthwhile" list. Ignorant twit.

It bothers me because it defeats the whole purpose of the rules that we have on here. Whether or not it upsets you or anyone who left it, the staff and I still see it and it is against the rules. And while you may have not complained about it, I have several members who have complained about items left on their reputation. There was no way to easily report except via PM and there's no way to infraction a user so for future reference either. So in the end, it was a mixture of too much work & comments that really would make you wonder what's wrong with a few users. I really sat back and thought to myself...what was the point of putting in so many hours to create a hack that would allow users to report items that will ultimately lead to people getting banned? In the end, I decided it would be better without it.

Can I get a mod to rename this topic "Flameboard/Reputation system"

Well you knew it was gonna spill over into another thread because the rep announcement was locked =P

Anyways I can live without it even if I don't agree with the reasoning behind its removal so I'm gonna stop complaining about it.

LOL I must say I first heard about QCDN due to a flame that was posted here. I joined and took a look around for a while (couldnt access the FB so I settled for the FFXI Discussion and End-Game Discussion threads) and I must say I really enjoyed what was posted on them. The FB is great and all for venting frustrations, but on a consistent basis I hear people refer to QCDN and most of its members as "Spoiled kids and adults who have nothing better to do than flame others, and each other, for stupid reasons." Personally, after having met some awesome people here (Tristam, Stine, Genkaku, Moink, and a few others) I know this to not be completely true.

All in all, I support the FB being either a separate user group or hidden away somehow, that way those who REALLY wanna see it will take the time to look for it or request to be made part of that usergroup.

I'm struggling to understand the point of this CiS - Comprehensive Ignore System? So, it removes said part of the forum that the user doesn't want to see? The only thing I'm struggling to understand, is why people need something removed to stop them viewing it? Where's the harm in just...er...not viewing it? Eg: User doesn't want to view the flameboard, they despise drama and never have, nor ever will, have any desire to view it. Instead of needing some sort of system to help them ignore it... why don't they just... not read it?

Apologies if this sounds totally stupid to anyone, but I'm just not getting it. I make the choice to read each thread I read, just like I make the choice to avoid the American Football thread because I know nothing about it, care nothing about it and would be bored shitless reading it. It doesn't seem difficult to me, and seems like extra work for not a lot of reason - once again, apologies if this has been discussed before and explained.

The CiS is a little bigger then that. What it will do is really make it so when you ignore a user, you pretty much don't see anything they do on the boards. Any new topic they make will not show up for you, no posts, nothing. I'm not sure about VMs however, but from what I hear it works wonders. The added bonus to it is that you can ignore complete topics and boards if you choose.

In this case, if there are people who say...only view 3 of the FF boards, then they can shrink down their main forum view to only have those three. It's more of a luxury really. Especially now that we have all of those sub jobs for FF.

Yeah, I've been wanting it for a while actually.

My breaking point was in a thread in, of all things, Fan Works, where Iso (as much as I enjoy her posting), left a message in Kayleen's thread about "PC+1 posts being deleted". Make deleted multiple posts on the FB the other day that were admittedly, off topic, but was it really worth the effort? Is QCDN a better site without those few posts?
As far as Kayleen goes, that problem as far as I could tell wasn't with her. It was with her group of regulars doing into derailed crap about grabbing boobs and stuff like that. Kayleen and I don't get along, but I'll be the first to say her art is phenomenal and I actually enjoy looking at it. I don't recall Iso saying anything that you can't talk about art or post it or anything. Stupid mindless banter in Fan Works though.. eh. Should be more art and art discussion than off topic crap.

Just wanted to clarify that the 'boob post'(not posts) by Linhjah that had apparently turned Kayleen's thread into a thread that's all about grabbing boobs and off-topicness, was posted a week before the warning was even given.

Yes, I know you guys aren't able to see everything as soon as it happens in every thread, and I can understand giving a warning and/or locking a thread because of posts that continuously go off topic, but in Kay's thread that really wasn't the case. Why you guys didn't actually take the time to read the whopping 5 pages instead of declaring the entire thing completely off-topic right off the bat is beyond me. There are only a few less-than occasional off-topic posts, but if that's really what is considered an off-topic thread these days, then I guess I can safely categorize just about every other thread on these boards as 'off-topic'...

My apologies for bringing up an old subject.

About the bold part: remember drama is like a nasty trainwreck, you cant help but watch. People will complain about the flameboard (myself included) but not because of its content, but because of the rep it gives to the site. Like I said in my previous post, I have met some awesome people on the site and wouldnt trade it for the world, but for someone who may not be as open minded as the rest of us, they may just turn tail and run after seeing what the infamous QCDN flameboard has on it.

My apologies for bringing up an old subject.

Fan Works doesn't need things to get to the point where there's another art thread where there's three times as many posts saying "Good morning!" than posts of actual art. As far as I know, Isollde went through the entire thread (and did with all of them) and before that she had already given warnings.

You posted whatever the hell this is supposed to mean. http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showpost.php?p=965256&postcount=41

Then there was Hitaru talking about ores, Kayleen saying to go to bed, Hitaru saying he was going to... that's not just slightly off topic. That is off topic. So Isollde came in and said to once again, stick to the art.

So, yes, StanDarsh, we read the whopping 5 page thread. Thank you for your concern about our reading capabilities though. And no one said the entire thing was completely off topic. It started to get that way, a mod said stop and people threw a fit. I hope this isn't all "beyond" you now.

Can a mod lock this since it seems there is work in progress about it. That, and it's gotten off topic...
