I just logged in after work to enjoy an evening of leveling in dunes to find out that traditional parties are dead. I was invited to 3 parties, each of which were being power leveled. I had to politely excuse myself from each group upon finding this out.

1st party:

I ask: Am I main tank or is the War/Nin going to be main and I just provoke off of him so he can reset Utseumi?

Leader replies: Doesn't matter we are being powerleveled.

I explain that I am not willing to accept being PL and am bombarded with Why would you be against being powerleveled? Every group in the dunes PL's now. Goodluck finding a non-PL group. The old way is soooo slow. Etc.

I apoligized for wasting their time and disband.

I start recieving /tells from the leader asking me why I disbanded. I explain that I feel that powerlevels in the long run allows bad players to progress further into the game and keeps potentially good players at a average level.

I ended up going to Selbina to set my HP there. On my way there I was invited to 2 other groups and I asked each leader if they were being powerleveled and they all quickly and proudly replied "Yes" and I had to then sadly turn down their invite. At this point I do a search of the area and those end up being the only groups there in my level range so I am screwed for partying tonight...

I feel that powerlevels keeps tanks evasion/parry/shield/gaurd skills gimped and mages enfeebles/heals/dark ect skills gimped. I have seen way too many power level groups who had the PL'er themselves acting as the tank and the 6 party members just try to kill the mob while taking absolutly no hits. I have seen too many parties in which since there is no real insentive to kill effiecently skill chains are completely ignored. I see healers with no real job to do so they just try to through a dia in here and a random cure in there. People no longer try to figure out how to work well with other classes. (Perfect example would be the Nin/war not knowing that he needs, or at least it helps, to have a back up provoker so that he can recast Utseumi without being interuppted Quifm will be an eye opener). Just the small things that you should learn when the death penatlies are slight like magic users learning to conserve MP so that 4-6 exp chains are possible, learning to work around hate.

Bah. Time to eat dinner and then I guess I'll try logging in again.

I hated that while leveling ninja. I kept getting bitched at whenever I provoked the mob onto me and off the high lvl pwl guy. I've got to level up my parrying skill and evasion skill somehow you bastards ><

How would a War/Nin reset utsusemi in the dunes?

Yeah as soon as I hit enter and read over what I typed I started to wonder about that statement myself.

You're used to the post lvl-24 parties, where a WAR/NIN would have the ability to Utsusemi.

The Hoosier vibe is very present in this thread....almost overwhelming.

OMG Kelsilv is my old roomate. ><

FUCKING
DAMNIT

I'm so sick of PL'ers. I violently refuse to join a PL'ed group. I, on the other hand, Enjoy PLing my LS mate's new jobs with my WHM mule, but thats 100% different. I'm not stopping people from partying like NORMAL parties should.

Can't fucking stand that stuff. Kurgon is too damn nice. I would have cursed up a storm >_<

Some guy blind invited me and I thoguht it was someone else. I left the party and he was like "Dude, I have two Pl-ers" . ALthough I knew it'd be easy exp... I still didn't like the idea. Unless I know the people I'm playing with and I know our skils are maxed, I don't like the PL. Only exception was the damn thief. I got PL one level for that. People are just expecting easy exp but ya.. I want my freakin skills. If I get PL, I think I'd just slack off and be like, woohoo, I shouldn't care because this high level is goign to save my ass... where will he be in Qufim?

I will be power leveled by a group and i stick with what my LS mate said.

If you get PLed you learn nothing from the expierence you had in the group and so you will stay a bad player.

When someone PLs the group im in i just Provoke it back and if someone says somthing i just continue doing it till they feel im and idiot and kick me out.

I have to fully agree here. And don't think this stops in Valkurm. No, this crap extends to Quifim. See, every once in awhile I am bored and do some undead slaughter in Quifim...Or Valkurm. You know, while you're passing through to go here to there. It's nice. Then I get to the lake and there's like 4 people camping the Banshees. So I figure, wow lots of nice people..That's always good. Banshees die, and they all go their respective power leveled parties. That just makes my jaw drop.

Who remembers back in the day when you were in a party, and you got that mob you couldn't handle? So as it's about to kill you, BANG, cure! Full life! WHOA! How'd that happen? OMG a level 60 WHM! Wow! Now everyone and their mother who hits 30+ goes to Valkurm to play 'save the newbies' and power level people. It's ridiculous. I've seen parties where the power leveler died because they were being arrogant. It makes me wonder, how long until the jungle sees the same thing? Or maybe it does already? I don't even know. Hell I see PL'ers in the freakin citadel all the time. So probably. --;

Another thing...I dunno if anyone else experiences this...But I'm running through wherever...Usually doing nice things along the way like throwing a cure or a protect...Pulling aggro off a puller. ALWAYS bombarded with "Hey feel like PL'ing us?" And even one time..."Our PL had to go and we have no WHM." WTF!? I'm helping someone get a coffer in the Citadel...Waiting for everyone to arrive, so I buff up. Kneel to heal...3 tells...Not 1 or 2, but 3. "Hey can you PL us?" I swear people are so spoiled now they don't know what a party without a PL is! It pisses me off so much. I hate leveling lower level jobs now. I make all of my parties myself just to avoid that crap.

I remember when I was leveling WHM for awhile in the dunes... I had a party where we had two PLs, a NIN tank and a PLD back-up. I was a fugging bystander. I was picking up my sissy little staff and beating the mob with it. There was nothing to do. Eventually I just left. I told the people that I wasn't needed, and that I was bored off of my ass. Someone in it sent me a /tell asking me to stay... I told them I had to go, we were depriving some other party from a WHM.

For the same reason, I never accept a group with two WHMs. It's just unsettling to me that one group can get an extra healer they dont really need, while another set of people sits around for hours and disbands because they can't find even one. PLs should stick to friends, I think.

I saw someone giving a PL in Crawler's Nest the other day.
Meanwhile I'm wondering why there are so many noobs at 60...

It's too bad. I never got PLed, and I am thankful for it. Hell, I'm still learning new things about being a Paladin. And thats the most important time to learn too, right when you first start partying.

Well, C'est la vie

that's why i'm stoked why ppl use combos like THF/NIN or WAR/NIN or RNG/NIN from levels 10-19 in the dunes... but i just keep my mouth shut and just not invite them.

This is just a suggestion to stop PLing, either restrict cures to ppl within your own PT like Refresh, sneak etc are or if you get a cure from a high lvl outside the PT receive the amount of exp depending on what the mon checks to him (most likely none).

Shortly after I got my BLM to 33 I was passing through the Dunes, taking the ferry on my return trip to Windurst so I could fish, when I came across the last WHM I'd worked with near Kazham, PLing a PT on the beach. I was disgusted.

When my RDM went through there some time later, almost every PT around had a PL until the very last one, where everyone had subjobs and we were chaining and leveling like mad because people actually understood their roles. Now I'm leveling RDM near Kazham, running into tanks who have to be reminded to voke.

It's a good thing you can't randomly kill people for stupidity, otherwise I'd be taking names and farming morons.

I thought about it and my confusion on the resetting Utsusemi stemmed from earlier partying with 2 nin/wars (not war/nin) in Dunes who were bouncing the mob back and forth between them combined with the first time in Quifm that I partied with a War/Nin (everyone was level 24+) and after a fight or two the war/nin sent me a nice /tell asking me why I wasn't Provoking off of him so he could reset Utsusemi. Sorry for the noobish mistake. I guess there is still a little bit left in me.

I can see how a "proper" powerlevel is possible but for the most part they rarely happens. If your group can be powerleveled and the tank is still tanking and learning to stand still for the thieves ;) , the mages are doing the majority of the healing/nuking, skillchains are plentiful, the group is still fighting level appropriate mobs, the pl'er only would step in if someone was about to die or handle links, etc I wouldn't have a problem with them, maybe.

In defense of white mages everywhere, I speak.

I still powerlevel people.. on occasion. They usually are under extrenuating circumstances though..

For example.. I PL is for LS mates who are only trying to lvl jobs for a specific reason (Friend with DRG main wanted to lvl blm so he could get warp, stuff like that) or LS mates who a. are in a shitty party and are gonna leave soon and dont want to find another party or in a shitty party and just want another level before they go, b. lost their whm and are gonna disband soon, or c. are players that i know arent n00bs (mainly linkshell people) and i'm bored.

You notice that this is all purely linkshell related stuff, and for specific members as well. I know who the noobs and the n00bs are in my linkshell, and I refuse to powerlevel them. I know who the people are who actually care and go level without powerlevels or are actual good all around players. I also try not to tank the mob and let the people do their jobs. If there is a WHM in the party I dont cure everyone all the time and encourage the WHM to nuke or melee (a WHM's melee skill needs to go up too!)

A lot of the powerleveling people that i've met in this game do things the same way. A lot of PL's you see arent just random people powerleveling n00bs, but linkshell people returning favors for other things or people out there doing things that i mentioned above. I understand that there are a lot of whm's who just pl the n00bs and this IS an issue in the game, I'm not denying that, just please don't be so quick to judge the mage or pally who is doing the PL. People who PL also might just be out there for one person, and end up PL'ing the whole party.. which does seem fucked up on your end but is good for the rank 6 person who just wants to get their job through the first five levels of n00b hell in the dunes. I bet given certain circumstances, if you were a mage or a pally, you'd do it too.

For example, my and my LS friends were in a party in the dunes last night. Up runs our high lvl pally friend who was farming in the area. He says, hey can I pl you guys for a bit? we say, ok. he sticks around for about 20 mins, throwing a cure here and there, and takes off. the end. no big deal. So if you see a powerlevel, you have every right to first think, fuck there goes another group of n00bs getting by, but on second thought, just try to realize that there are reasons people still do it, and not all of them are fucked up.
