I just logged in after work to enjoy an evening of leveling in dunes to find out that traditional parties are dead. I was invited to 3 parties, each of which were being power leveled. I had to politely excuse myself from each group upon finding this out.
1st party:
I ask: Am I main tank or is the War/Nin going to be main and I just provoke off of him so he can reset Utseumi?
Leader replies: Doesn't matter we are being powerleveled.
I explain that I am not willing to accept being PL and am bombarded with Why would you be against being powerleveled? Every group in the dunes PL's now. Goodluck finding a non-PL group. The old way is soooo slow. Etc.
I apoligized for wasting their time and disband.
I start recieving /tells from the leader asking me why I disbanded. I explain that I feel that powerlevels in the long run allows bad players to progress further into the game and keeps potentially good players at a average level.
I ended up going to Selbina to set my HP there. On my way there I was invited to 2 other groups and I asked each leader if they were being powerleveled and they all quickly and proudly replied "Yes" and I had to then sadly turn down their invite. At this point I do a search of the area and those end up being the only groups there in my level range so I am screwed for partying tonight...
I feel that powerlevels keeps tanks evasion/parry/shield/gaurd skills gimped and mages enfeebles/heals/dark ect skills gimped. I have seen way too many power level groups who had the PL'er themselves acting as the tank and the 6 party members just try to kill the mob while taking absolutly no hits. I have seen too many parties in which since there is no real insentive to kill effiecently skill chains are completely ignored. I see healers with no real job to do so they just try to through a dia in here and a random cure in there. People no longer try to figure out how to work well with other classes. (Perfect example would be the Nin/war not knowing that he needs, or at least it helps, to have a back up provoker so that he can recast Utseumi without being interuppted Quifm will be an eye opener). Just the small things that you should learn when the death penatlies are slight like magic users learning to conserve MP so that 4-6 exp chains are possible, learning to work around hate.
Bah. Time to eat dinner and then I guess I'll try logging in again.
