Judging by your sig and assuming you are still lvl 20 at highest, the gilseller issue
probably hasnt affected you much.
Give it another 20 levels or so and all your questions will be answered.

Quite simply, that's like saying a con artist, or rapist, or murder, is trying to take some time to do something they can actually do. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Look at the thread on Georgeharrison MPK if you need any proof of that.

And those three examples are about equal to gilsellers in my eyes.

Assuming Asiamise is right about you being Lv20'ish, you'll notice how gilsellers have affected our in-game economy.
Basically the story happened like this... People got greedy and started setting things way too expensive for their own good on auction. Then someone thought of an easier way to make money; if someone traded money for gil. So now people buy and sell things even more expensive which gets people to buy even more gil, so now we're set in a huge, vicious circle.

The bigger reason people hate gilsellers, though, is because they're always after notorious monsters so they can sell the gil. This of course means normal people can't camp the NM's for themselves.

So for the most part, they're trapping us in a vicious cycle that greedy people started in the game. Though, I've met some gilsellers before, and they can be nice people, they should be stopped. FFXI has declared it as illegal.

Only reason I don't like them is because they kill me. But don't take my word for it, there are thousands of others who could say the same.

Alleria quit playing the game a long time ago, never getting past 20 or 21. So no, she never had any encounters with gil sellers or any chance to see them in action when they start MPKing everyone who comes close to an area where their prey might pop.

I don't understand your post so I'll make my reply equally as incoherent...

People have they gils buy when people do for it suddenly more to get so everyone harder working for gil legit, if somehow an example real life you for. counterfeit money Government not illegal by them rich everyone... right?

gil seller not that bad gil buyer are a big problem witch are cause by the gilseller but it one them cycle things. more bigger question anyone beside me notice the change of powers in the gil seller organizarion or what ever you want to call them. and how the gil support (maybe gilsellers) seem to have intergraded/ mongle with some of the other linkshells. Not going say names or put anyone on spot i think it a kind of a good thing. Just why there been such a shift in tatics and ways in the last few months

I laughed so hard at that, I spilt my cup of tea down myself. Thanks :D

Hi Alleria!

The best way I can think of it is like this: I cannot afford to nor would I consider buying gil. My only option is to farm gil through various ways; killing normal mobs for valuable drops, mining/harvesting, NM hunting or fishing. You can try any of these methods to make a decent living farming but everyone one of them has gil seller competition. Its frustrating when you have to compete against someone who makes a living doing what you do for fun and they are not pleasant about it. So even if you had a method that could make you X amount of gil, with sellers there is will probably half that. Even if they do not directly steal mobs or mining points from you, they still screw with AH prices. A gil seller who fishings can force the price up or down with his near unlimited supply. This is just the gil seller side of it as well. People who then buy gil from these people force prices upwards, which in turn forces an honest farmer to spend more time farming. The gil buyers have no concept of the value of that gil since it took them no time at all to get it and will spend exhorbitant amounts to get the items they desire. This is even more unfair to the average farmer who not only makes about half what should be made without gil sellers present but then has to farm longer now for a more expensive item.

Often people say, do not hate gil sellers, they are just doing their job and it's the gil buyers fault. In my opinion it is both. Without one, the other cannot exist. They are both breaking the terms of service and are doing something illegal, that does not make either one any better.

I hope that explains you question a little bit more.

I have never found any of the gilsellers to be price jackers. They are perhaps one of the most stabalizing forces in some of the markets they enter. If there were any possitive things to be said about them, that is one that shouldn't be skipped over.

I really don't care one way of another, I haven't bought any gil in FFXI, I sold plenty of plat and items over the course of my EQ career. Was I a plat seller? I wouldn't think so, my main purpose while playing EQ wasn't to accumulate plat to sell, it was to have fun, and when I was at a point where I had so much excess plat that I didn't know what to do with it, I sold some of it for real world cash.

I always like to point this one out:
Who's the bigger loser, the one who's spending hours and hours of real time to get a certain amount of gil in the game, or the one who spends a fraction of his or her disposable real world income to receive the same amount of gil instantly?

I'd have to agree with this. It's greedy people who started jacking prices up, and that is what started gilselling in the first place. Though, I agree with FFXI on making gil selling illegal. Someone else profiting off of their own game and ideas is plain and simply fraud.
Gilsellers don't jack prices higher, but it's because of them that people pay such high amounts of money for the stuff. Also, because of them, people can't play the game for fun because there's always gilsellers camping NM's. I hear that some places in the world even have sweatshops for gilselling even... Which in my opinion is really, really weird.

So the new players who enter the game in our server starts at lvl 1, gets to 20 then Doom spells the word "F-U-C-K-E-D" for all new players. I've only been playing for 2 months now and this problem hit me hard. Later when I can't buy a piece of armour I'm gonna be kicked out a party because I can't afford it. So I have an excuse to tell the party leader to go and suck my dick. XD

Pricejackers are TECHNICALLY the problem.
Because gilbuyers got the money so easily, there's the chance they don't have any personal value towards the money they just got. If supply is sortof low on something, and they desparately want the item, they might do something stupid an overbid by 100k...200k....on some items, a whole 1m+. It's...don't remember the exact phrase...just gonna say it's not a big deal to them.

Also, people getting sudden access to so much money exhausts resources considerably faster than if they legittably earned their money....and....I sortof can't explain why too well, hoping to god someone knows what I mean and can word it better. ><

If you want an opinion- Gardening seems to be nice income. Plus, the outcome of what you harvest is almost always going to be different, so people wouldn't ever really use it to sell gil. When you're Lv1, just get Signet and fight low level monsters, getting nice experience and crystals, and some other stuff. Save Beastmen seals for when you get to be a little higher level. If you start off in Bastok, get Lv2-3, and start killing tons of Saplings. In the east side of North Gustaberg, every step you take has another Sapling. These guys drop seeds that you can use in gardening. Garden a couple at a time, and BAM you got like 2,000g+. Or something like Fruit Seeds + Dark + Dark makes 3x Light Clusters.
Even if it's not much income, it's often quite decent for WHM Lv36+ to teleport people for gil. After a while, and if you get all the teleports, you can be making anywhere between 75k-100k per hour.

In the future, I might not be able to buy a Scorpion Harness. I'll be kicked from parties if I don't have that will I?

It may be something, but it's definitely not fraud. The seller doesn't deceive the buyer in any way.

Or you can buy 1,000,000gil for ten bucks.
So you have the choice to spend ten hours in the game to make 1M, or you can spend 10 bucks to just get 1M. 10 bucks is the cost of a couple 20oz Lattes at Starbucks, or a movie ticket.

You see how those who buy gil are given the choice what to do with their time, and money.

As long as you have fun posting people around for ten hours straight, it's all good, but many don't consider farming fun, which is why the gil sellers are still in business.

wow thats a bit serious, granted im not a big fan of gilsellers but in all honesty they are just doing a job, that is all. If you want to hate someone hate the people who came up with the business, or the people who buy the product. hell i know a few people here that most of you like that has bought gil.

I hear that is going to be the next moogle event when XBox 360 comes out. The new players have to run around town collecting dildos with letters on them to spell out F-U-C-K-E-D. When you finally do, the prize is a Rare/Ex item that gives you Treasure Hunter 3 but only on Lightsday, during a full moon, non JP primetime and the Vana'diel clock is the exact same time as earth time.
