Gil Sellers

Joe millionaire starts his char and starts playin, goes to IGE or whatever and buys up 10mil gil to play this game because he doesn't have time to farm cause he's a "casual gamer", he level’s up nin/thf/mnk whatever and runs his ass to the AH to buy a scorpion harness so he can be leet, he bids 5mil, Unable to purchase for 5mil, does he stand around and say "screw that price jacker, I ain't giving him my hard earned gil"? no, he spends the extra 500k 600k shit 1mil more for it because he's got money to blow, and doesn’t care if it costs a little bit extra. Thus, raising the "Normal Price" for an item.

If you do that enough times, and enough people have that "who cares if it costs more" attitude then it will increase the "norm" for that item. This is what you see for all the items now-a-days.

and where's your

joe high lvl elite?

goes to ah been playing mage jobs has plenty of money, see's the SH has gone up and wants one for his thf job so he payes the price. where's that factor in? you think ALL the SH's weskits vermillion cloaks nobles tunics all of that was price gouged from gill buyers? cause that's a hell of a lot of gil buyers in our game then

Yep. I actually had a THF Tell me they bought gil to get their SH.

think about how many people buy SH's a day, you think those people are running out and spending the what $150-200 what ever it is for the gil the buy one EVERYDAY? that means in about 1yr everyone on the server will of bought 8 mil of gill the buy that 1 item. not even counting the other items that are getting so outragiously priced now.

All of them? No. Alot of them? Yeah. Is it really unbelievable that people would do that?

If it is, you need to get out more.

*sure, there are very rich people out there (who made the gil ligitly) who won't mind spending an extra 1mil for a SH but it won't happen so often it will become the norm, someone will just get lucky here and there and get paid more for the item, but the majority of people won't want to fork over the extra gil when they know if they wait a little bit longer the price will drop down.

/up arrow: Joe high level elite

Do I think there are that many gil buyers on our server? HELL YES I DO, can you imagin for a second if you and 20 of your friends played 24 hours a day and farmed NMs and high priced items every.....single....day how much gil that would bring? do you think they are just storing this gil on them? no, they are selling it, and they are selling it fast so they have to keep doing this to make the gil. supply and demand, if they wern't selling it as fast as they were making it they sure as hell wouldn't be that big of a bother to the server. and they wouldn't be needing to farm 24/7.
roll your eyes at that.

do I think everyone that buys SH, verm, nobles, all those buy gil? no I don't, BUT I do belive the price standard is set for items because of gil buying, if you are a legit player, you go to AH and the SH is now 8mil you will just have to make the gil for it and buy it for that much, because now that full PH for SH's is 8 mil nobody will sell you one for 4mil, you just have to make due.

If that were true, it would be incredibly easy to just create a new PH buy selling stuff back and forth between a couple friends with a couple of extra content IDs.

Create MuleA_01, MuleA_01 sells item to MuleB_01 for 200k.
Delete MuleA_01, create MuleA_02.
Send item from MuleB_01 to MuleA_02.
Delete MuleB_01, create MuleB_02.
MuleA_02 sells item to MuleB_02 for 200k
etc.

So many people are just idling in FFXI anymore that you and a friend could do this every few days and within a couple weeks you would own the PH.

There is a small risk of someone else buying the item, but if you and a friend are on any kind of chat or voice communication outside the game you can time it perfectly.

Why didn't the SH cost 8M in the first few months of the game?
Surely people could have bought 8M from gil sellers at that time as well.
Well, it would have cost you like $8,000 (just making this up, no idea what the gil prices used to be) to buy 8M in the early days. Now it's $80 for 8M.

As any MMO gets older the value of the currency goes down because there is just so much of it around, and every second hundred thousands of gil are introduced into the economy by people just playing the game (not purposefully farming).

With such a large currency surplus, and such a shortfall of quality items (items worth buying), it's just natural that the price would go up, regardless of gil sellers.

My point is that the prices for items would still be high, higher than some people like them to be, higher than some people can afford, even if there were zero gil sellers. It's basic economic really. I am not saying gil selling had zero impact, but it's simply inconceivable that gil sellers are the root cause of in-game inflation. Gil sellers are a contributing cause, game mechanics are the root cause.

Exactly.

Gilsellers to not magically wave their cursors over their delivery box, and suddenly have 5,000,000 to send out to their customers. Gilsellers deal in actual items. If you want to blame the economy on something, blame it on people who took advantage of the Rusty Caps in Rabao. When Player A goes to the AH and lists their stack of Fire Crystals for 4,000 gil, the gil that shows up in their delivery box an hour later -came- from somewhere. It came from Player B, who bought your Fire Crystals with money he earned from Player C, who earned it from Player D, and so on and so forth. There are very few ways in the game to actually make gil from nothing; the only things I can come up with are via killing Beastmen and certain NMs/HNMs, selling something to an NPC, or doing one of the many quests in the game that includes a small amount of gil as a reward. The reason the economy is crap is because people are attaining gil in these ways faster than it is being taken out of the game. The only way I can think of that gil goes out of the game is by either dropping it or by spending it with an NPC. The reason gil is worth so much less now than when the game started is because there is just so much more of it circulating. Gilsellers don't ruin the economy, because they deal in actual items that they sell for existing gil. They don't introduce any more new gil into the game than any other player would who killed the same mobs they did would. The economy starts to go bad when gil is intorduced faster than it leaves, and it stockpiles on characters who have the most resources that others are willing to pay for. It occassionally gets redistributed when said characters make purchases, but it merely shifts owners, it doesn't cease to exist; this is why it retains its current value, or lack thereof. Less gil in the economy makes it worth more, and more gil makes it worth less.

They have done that, and it's failed in the past, I've seen many times the PH has been changed because people are trying to mod/change it, you've seen that in one of the posts here "I think it was odon or something about werewolf belts" and it's calmed back down, mostly because they are so easy to come around and anyone can do it.

the stuff with SHs price being 8mil now has a ton to do with gilselling, in the past legit ways to make money you couldn’t make 8mil easy, or even half hard, talk to any legit farmer, and see how much they made a year ago, and how much they made now, I'm sure it's varied a little bit, but it hasn't quadrupled.

The biggest reason I believe gilsellers have on the economy is because I've been around a long time in this game, as long as I could, and have watched the prices flux, sure the currency goes down in value over a long period of time because more people have more gil, but not that drastic, take when we first started this game leaping boots were 155k a year after that they were 250k~ around that time I've noticed gilselling starting to be a problem, mostly with ordells caves and what not they didn't have that big of a cover area, now that they are EVERYWHERE HNMs/NMs/Gods/*just wait for sea* prices have went out of control this is what I see:

Leaping boots start 150k, leaping boots a year after start of NA release 250k, leaping boots after feeling impact of sellers at most HNMs NMs 1mil+.

You can ask anyone that's quit for a few months and came back, the value of something goes up normally, but when someone just quits for a few months and goes "holy shit what's up with the prices" you really can't blame that on just normal currency influx.

If you have ever witnessed someone who's just started the game get 10mil gil or so you would see what I mean, they are broke within a week buying shit they don't need, and paying whatever they have to for it. Those people are broke within a week but the people that regularly buy Gil they don't go broke, they just buy more Gil, it's horrible for the economy and if it's not stopped it just keeps getting worse. When is it going to become TOO outrageous of a price for items?

The first part doesn't concern me WHERE they got the items and the gil that they got the items for, it's WHO the gil is going to, my whole point is that if you buy said gil it doesn't hold a value the same from someone that has spent time camping something, or farming something * See my first Joe Blow farming guy.

The second part was a huge problem, and it was a problem that SE fixed when it was going out of control. And I did notice a jump in prices from that, okok let's take that, I just found another point.....

Joe fisherman sits and fishes in rabeo w/ a bot program while he sleeps, wakes up fresh and early with 1mil, he heads out to work, comes back from work, he's got another 1mil, he does that enough he's got 10mil and ready to go buy more shit for his guy he is going to act THE EXACT same as Joe Millionaire that just bought gear, neither was earned. So neither one worries about the price of what they are buying.

Gil-sellers are like other players in many respects but the most important thing to remember is that they are people like us and make their own decisions concerning their own conduct....Some of them MPK, but so do other people who aren't RMT (Real Money Traders)....Some are nasty, greedy and just impossible to live/play with, but so are people who hate RMT'ers and attack them at every turn. Alot of 2nd and 3rd hand information circulates through our server so before anyone makes a statement like "all gil-sellers are...." or "Chinese means your a gil-seller" or whatever....At least see for yourself before taking the word of others. Heck....look at BoL....alot of people hate BoL but I know they aren't all bad and that the actions of some don't accurately reflect the feelings of everyone in the LS. Thank you.

Woah...I just read unphazed's statement about money and the value people place upon it and I think he is 100% in what he says. The old saying is "That which is too easily earned is too little valued" or words to that effect.

browsing on a ffxi site, I believe somepage I clicked the banner on the gil selling website they advertise just to see what kinda prices and deals they ran out of curiosity. While you can browse on the site they offer a history page of the last 6 people who bought from their site.. While there 4/6 past transactions were from players from quetzy :(

What's everyone's obsession with BoL lately? Peregrine goes apeshit on our members and all of a sudden we seem to be the most popular kids on the block, so to speak.
