Gimp Setup? Monk

I don't know if this was directed at me, but after playing the game for almost 5 years, it doesn't matter whether you have the job leveled or not. I read about most jobs, besides like...pup and pld. And honestly mnk is hardly different from the rest. I wouldn't leave my mog house on mnk, if vendor slops was all I had.
It's mainly directed at Jyak. You were not the one being insulting about what Diabllos said, although you said the same thing.

Monk is a very different job than every other melee DD, saying otherwise means you've got no idea what you're talking about. They have different gear philosophies, and completely different game mechanics. Some basic knowledge will carry over, but a good amount of it won't apply, like STR gear's uselessness.

If all they have is vendor slops or something with ZERO offensive stats, they'd be retarded to not wear the slops; and telling them to wear that useless gear is no better. If they don't have access to endgame gear, then you have to go by what is buyable or what they can get in very small groups. He's got 3 choices, Vendor slops, Strike subligar, or farm AP for Pahluwan legs. If he doesn't have the money for strike subligar, and until he gets the AP for P. legs, vendor slops are his best option.

Seeing as he's one of the premier monks on this board i'd listen to Baj. my 2nd character's monk is 65 and reading this thread will keep her on track IMO.

What would you guys consider a gimp setup... I have a 75 MNK and I will be honest I don't have the best gear but I dont "think" I am gimp.

Here we go,

Weap - Wagh B.
Head - Ohat or Turban
Neck - Spectacles or Chiv Chain
Ear1 - Minuet earing
Ear2 - +5 attk earing (cant remember the name)
Body - SH
Hands - AF1 or Okote
Ring1 - Snipers or +4 str ring
Ring2 - Snipers or +4 str ring
Back - Amemet(sp?) +1
Belt - Brown Belt
Legs - AF1
Feet - Dune boots.

Lemme know what you think, I dont have enough time for most endgame stuff so I dont have Shura or Salvage gear ><

Change leg and weapon, the rest is ok.. even with byakko haidaite it would be less than avarage gear. If you want good gear you know what to do. You mentioned it yourself in the op.

Bolded so you can read it.

He may be retarded sometimes, but that made perfect sense.

I have played monk as well, you don't know the jobs i have on other characters Baj. As per Vendor slops versus other viable options, I wouldn't use Vendors... Period.

I'd rather use Republic Sub till I could farm AP for Pal legs. The ACC could be used on other slots. So again, I wouldn't use Vendors... especially if Republic is available.

I see what you're saying. 3 acc won't really help over guard skill +10.
I'm glad you see it my way
So, here you're saying that the slops aren't worth using over AF.

I'd rather use Republic Sub till I could farm AP for Pal legs.
But here you're saying that personally, you'd get the sub and not slops/AF, although that's not what you recommended he do. Neither was it your argument against my suggestion of the slops. Stop changing your argument so you can wriggle out of this.

5 Att > 3 Acc? Really? I guess you'd TP in Osode too then.

Wow... all those people spending 3M+ on 2 Accuracy (Sniper's HQ) must be such idiots. They can just buy an assailant's ring for Att+5, lol.

and he's gonna do it by going once every 3 months when he gets the random opportunity? (hypothetical statement)

Apparently, Jyak would wear Assailant's ring over Venerer ring, too.

5 Att > 3 Acc?

Yes. It's the same reason O kote is preferable to acc 10 gloves.

Toreador is 7 accuracy and assailant is 5 attack. It's not 2 acc vs 5 attack it's 7 acc vs 5 attack.

You've played monk? What level? How long? I've played PLD to level 10, doesn't mean I go talking like I'm an elitist paladin telling people I wouldn't be caught dead in some gear.

If you have leveled monk to 75, then you're even worse, because now you're giving stupid advice while having a frame of reference; which makes you a crappy monk or an idiot.

You're not going to notice a difference in either at 75. Neither is going to make a meaningful impact, but the accuracy would have a bigger chance of being noticed. It'd mainly be an aesthetic choice.

There's nothing wrong with him wearing vendor slops until he gets better pants.

Difference is, you need a lot of attack in one slot to make it significant over accuracy. Accuracy in small doses makes more of a difference, than Attack does in similarly small doses. Att+20 in one slot is great, and worth it over more acc, where you could be putting it elsewhere. It's not a simple formula of "Xattack > Yaccuracy". Consider the weight of the increase, and the slot it's in. E.g. Kote is too good to pass up on. Att+5 on your legs is hardly significant Vs 3 accuracy in the same slot.

lol, do you always judge gear by the cost? The reason people pay that much, is because there is no other gear to raise their stats. Baj is putting up a pretty good argument.

Baj and I are fighting the same argument... And i'm talking to Jyak, not you.

I know your talking to Jyak, but just because you have issues with him doesn't mean what he's saying isn't somewhat true. Honestly I wouldn't level a job like mnk if I didn't have time for endgame, because the options you have aside from haidate are pretty awful. But saying a piece of gear is better because people pay a lot for similar stats in different gear, is just ridiculous.

From my understanding, you posted this with the idea in your mind that you might infact be 'gimp' and you wanted to clarify with the member base if that were case or not. You also alluded to the things you needed to do in order to upgrade your gear (Sky, Salvage), so I must assume you are reasonably clued up on it.

Some of your gear choice also suggests to me you know what to look for, and perhaps you lack the funds or inventory space to substantially improve your gear set, and the time necessary.

In respect of the above:

I am not sure if 'gimp' would be the correct choice of wording, but yes, you seem as if you already know your gear is below the standard needed. If as you state, you don't have enough time for endgame events, perhaps it is due to the timing of, or the length of time required in one block, you will however have to note that upgrading gear in general takes time.

As far as AH-bought only gear, there are a number of things you could obviously do if you absolutely cannot aquire the items from sky, or even something more relaxed such as assault.

For now, as has been suggested here, but I will re-iterate for emphasis, focus on aquiring:

Destroyers (KSNM not AH, but the standard nevertheless), Peacock charm, Scorpion harness+1, Prince's slops, Forager's mantle, Fuma sune-ate. Some of these obviously aren't the best items to have in absolute terms, but are an improvement over what you have already.

I do not know if you have Sea access, and I do not consider having it as 'end-game', however Ancient beastcoins are in ready supply in Batallia downs, and are as cheap as they've ever been. Again this doesn't make it cheap, merely affordable if you don't gather the coins from Limbus yourself. The Brutal earring is the outstanding choice for a TP-build ear slot, look to try and obtain one if it is within your means.

Please bear in mind none of this was in any way intended as a criticism of you, but as a means of trying to answer your query whilst still offering something constructive.
